Appointment On Friday

Recommended Posts

I found the courage to make the phone call to a therapist today to make my first appointment. Voicemail. After stumbling through why I was calling, left my name and number. A few hours passed and I began to wonder if I sounded creepy, left the wrong number or dialed a local burger king by accident. Just after lunch she called back. She asked me several questions for background and we chatted for a few minutes. She told me that her focus was on exploring and helping me learn more about myself rather than trying to change any particular behavior. She said that our discovery will show us the path to follow for me to be happy. She also said that she thinks we will work well together. :)

So I have an appointment for Friday. What I am feeling now is complete fear and hope at the same time. I am also amazed at how openly I spoke to her about something I've been hiding and lying about my whole life. So now I have shared my secret with someone who can actually help..

I feel so ready.

I can't wait for Friday.

Just like you I have my first appoitnment on Friday. I can't wait for it to come. But, like you, I am having feelings of both hope and dread. I guess that just comes with the territory. Friday will be here soon and we will both have the first appointment behind us. Best of luck to you.

Dang.....I'm gonna make it a point to be around here Friday afternoon.....

Sounds like it's gonna get interesting....

Good luck to you both.....trust me...it doesn't hurt a bit!

If you're like me, you'll go in all quiet and once you start, you won't be able to shut up!

Congrats Shari on digging deep down and finding the courage to contact someone, i held things kinda together for 56 years, then my bell rang and i was out of the gate like a thoroughbred race horse, it sounds like you and your therapist will work good together to find the path you need to take, that first session is usually a get to know you and you her, no need to be nervous.

Sharah,

If I can do it, so can you. Trust me, I'm basically a big sissy. I am counting the hours for both of us. I promise to update you, if you'll do the same. I bet it is just like everyone says....easy as pie. If we were in the same town, we could go shopping together and compare notes.

Ladies, thank you for the encouraging words. You are so helpful, I cannot imagine how much harder this would be without all of you along for the ride.

I wish both of you Shari and Sharah the best for you first appointments. Don't be worried and just let your therapist know how you truly feel. Don't hold anything back and don't worry there will be something you forgot to mention. You will have another appointment to bring it up.

Dee Jay,

With the love and support you girls have given us here I will gladly tolerate your "noisiness", LOL. One more day, I can hardly wait.

I really enjoy seeing my GT and the session never seems long enough. I bet both of you Shari and Sharah will feel the same.

Well I just finished with my first session and it was fantastic. My therapist is so easy to talk with. We covered my history and my current feelings. The time flew by and it was over almost before it started (at least it seemed that way). Next appointment is next Thursday. I can't wait.

That's fantastic, Sharah. I'm so glad that you hit if off with your G.T. See, nothing to worry about, right?

Yes, those sessions do seem to fly by. The only time I ever looked at my watch was on those times when we were

discussing something that made me uncomfortable. My G.T. always noticed when I did that, too. ;)

Now we just have to wait for Shari's report. *Taps foot*

Congrats on your first visit going so well. I do remember it flying by though and not wanting to stop once I opened the flood gates.

Glad to hear it Sharah. My first time today went about the same.

Oh my gawd.....I sang like a canary. My therapist is very easy to talk to. Next appointment is next Friday. Right now my emotions are running on auto pilot. It has taken until now to put it into perspective. She asked what name to use and said I should wear whatever makes me feel comfortable.....

I am glad for both of you Shari and Sharah. A good GT will put you at ease and actually become a friend that you look forward to seeing. You are well on your way now to becoming who you were meant to be.

What I like about it is that I can go dressed. If for any reason I am stopped or questioned I can say I'm off to see my therapist for just that reason. Want to see her business card or give her a call. Then grin evilly and start giggling!
