Therapy Question?

I need help...I'm thinking of seeing a gender therapist, but what if I tell the therapist my story and about my transgenderism and the therapist ends up telling me that I don't need transition or that I'm not transgendered..that I'm just a genderqueer when I have every symptom of being transgendered? He won't allow me to be on HRT!

God,I'm so worried now...any one help?

Please don't worry and stress over that, son. It is extremely unlikely to happen that way.

You seem pretty sure of who you are and what you want. The G.T.'s job isn't to argue and poke holes in your story and convince you of something you don't believe, its to ensure that you know the facts of transition, help you resolve all of your issues, help you prepare for the journey, and help you discover who you are. That last part won't be hard if you are already 98 percent of the way there.

Just relax and go. It will be fine.

Well, do some internet research anyway, just in case. You might be surprised.

Even if there aren't any, there are several excellent Internet-based therapists that can take you through the entire process. Things are never

as hopeless as they sometimes seem. You will find a way. :)

Local LGBT sites or organizations could point you in the right direction, that is where I found my therapist (and some extra support I didn't know about).

Good luck and don't be afraid. My first session was only yesterday and I wonder why I waited so long. :)

What about a private psychiatrist that has experience in this field? Maybe not as good as a Gender Therapist, but that's what some people here do [no Gender Therapists in my area, either]. In this case, I wouldn't suggest just going to any psychiatrist in any public hospital, because things can go pretty wrong... :D

However, I suggest looking for transpeople in your country [maybe try browsing an online lgbt forum or something] and asking for their advice, because advice from foreigners usually ends up being not very useful. There are different legal issues and all that stuff... Advice from locals = gold!

I have been attepmting to get in touch with one of the Gender Therapists on the sites list. How long should I wait before starting to try to contact another therapist?

A good GT isn't interested in telling you who you are, they are interested in helping you discover who you are. If the conclusion of your thereapy is that you are transgendered then so be it, and if not, then during the therapy you will have come to terms with who you really are.

As for finding a therapist mine is internet based and I find her fantastic. Her email is [email protected] if you would like to inquire as to her availability. I found her on the list here at Laura's. Therapy is all internet based so you don't need to travel anywhere

As all of you posters say...I should talk to an online gender therapist...it's a good idea but wouldn't that be risky because I'm giving my identity to someone I barely know in real life? I don't trust that. I could go to my counselor and talk to her so she can at at least give me E-Therapists that I can talk to.

If you go to a good one, chances are that WON'T happen. But, if it does, nothing says you can't switch therapists.
