Earrings For Guys

Guest Link

Recommended Posts

Since the girls have all been posting a bunch of earring threads, I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon.

I'm completely down with guys wearing earrings in both lobes and, since I got my ears pierced when I little, I plan on doing that sometimes once I can fully pass. But until I can pass, I want to start wearing just one earring. I've been having problems finding masculine ones though. I know when my dad used to wear an earring, we would buy them for him at Wal-Mart and just get ones that came in a pair. Maybe styles have changed since then because I can't find any at places like Wal-Mart that I would wear as a guy.

Anyone hear know where to go?

I guess I'd start by Googling it. Men's earrings are not a big thing right now, but I know they still sell them.

You could just start by going with something simple. Maybe check overstock.com or something?

Try Hot Topic-they are in most malls and have a web site as well. You might also check eBay and search for male earring or unisex earrings. You'll probably find more than you can go through.

Ok.....

Experience speaking here...

As a "male" person in 1973, I got my left ear pierced and wore something in it for over 35 years!

I always wore a very small silver hoop...or a small gold stud...

Once I wore a diamond stud and someone said that it looked feminine! OMG I sure didn't want that!

(deep denial)

Try this....

I second ebay, great range and good prices. I go window shopping at piercing jewellery places, then look for something similar on ebay because shops seem to have at least a $20 markup on everything.

Other than that, have you looked in a piercing/tattoo place? They usually have a decent selection of simple hoops and studs that suit guys.

Forgot to mention I'm allergic to pretty much everything and can only wear hypo-allergenic, etc. etc. stuff so used earrings aren't typically an option.

But thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Gonna check them all out!

Stud type or hoop ring? Buy them the same place women do - all the same. A clerk will be glad to help you and never think twice about it.

I wear gold hoops sometimes, and other days sparkly studs, it just depends, what I would like on the day.

One day I was in a woman's store buying jeans, and sales woman ask me if my studs were diamonds, I was rather flattered but I just laughed and said "How I wish" they are my $6.00 diamonds.

I wear three medium silver testicles in my right ear, two in my left, and I got them from Fire & Ice (in the mall), and they were only about ten dollars a pair.

WOW-- I did NOT mean that. I meant those round things that you can bounce or hit with a bat... I guess "studs" would have been better. That was a surprise to see!!

Gauge is the unit of measure for wire and is not related to jewelry specifically. You can buy wire on a spool that's 18g and it'll be the same as an earring post that's 18g. The 3mm that you saw refers to the size of the sphere on your stud, not the diameter of the post.

To answer your question, yes, the smaller gauges like 18 and 20 are most common for post/stud or danglie earrings. 16g or 14g would be more common for captive ball or horseshoe type rings. Any lower than that and you start approaching lobe stretching territory.

Depending on what type of earrings you are buying, the gauge will likely not even be a factor. In the case of your average earrings (studs/danglies), the size is rarely mentioned since whatever is attached to the post or hook is the focus, not the wire itself and it is therefore kept very thin. Keep in mind that the vast majority or earring wearers are not interested in stretching or gauging their lobes. Unless you are leaning more towards the "punk" or "goth" styles found at Hot Topic an the like, it shouldn't be an issue for you. :)

Hope this helps.

Try some of your tatto parlors. Most of them do piercings as well. I had mine done in one. They used a needle which was a heck of a lot better than just ramming a stud through the ear to create the hole.

I've had earrings - simple steel hoops with green-purple-blue streaks in them - for about seven years; don't really want to get rid of 'em if I don't have to. I don't think I even asked if they were for men or women, I just liked them :-) My netsurfing indicates earrings are becoming more "acceptable" for guys.

Go to about any tattoo parlor. Most do piercing as well as tattooing and would have decent earrings. You may have to taper the hole in your ear a bit, but tapering isn't too painful.

I just went to the jewelry store yesterday. I got a set of hoops for about a hundred bucks. 14k gold. Of course I got the earrings and my wife got an anklet. Go figure. Good jewelry will last forever and always look goog.

I cannot wear costume jewelry, so a set of inexpensive earring ls from the mall kiosks was not an issue.

Earrings for guys have been trending towards plugs and cbrs. Best places to find earrings that guys are wearing now is at body-piercing/tattoo parlors or as Tucker said Hot Topic. Allergies shouldn't be an issue with anything from a piercing studio, all their stuff is usually surgical grade.

Cheers,

Elena
