hi, my name is sheila. i'm 50 years oldand i'm a transsexual. i was in a motorcycle accident and lost my right leg below the knee. well, i pretty much gave up hope of ever being a female. it was a long healing process and now, eight years later, that urge to become a woman is driving me to the point of insanity.i mean, that's all i can think of. i figured that i'm hard wired to be this way, why not go with the flow. instead of fighting it. i never met any transsexuals and thought there was something wrong with me. that i was defected in some way. and never reallizing that there was a large community of people just like me out there. i never sought help or support, never knew i could meet like minded girls to seek advice from and form friendships with and there's people here that seem to really care. that's the impression i had when i found laura's playground. i'd like to remind everyone too, there's strenth in numbers.

i do have a picture to upload. it's my most recent pic. it so out of place here i'm embaressed to put it on this site but it will make a good before picture to my after transformation picture

i only found this site yesterday. after about 5 minutes i made lauras playground my home page. ten minutes later i was regestered. i've found a wealth of imformation online from educational sourses and more. i've .learned more in the last four days then i've learned in the last 45 years. i was looking for a decent site when i finally found laura's playground. thank you laura, i love your site. it gives me hope.

my first memory of wanting to be a girl goes back to when i was five years old. so this has been a life long struggle. i'm all alone and need help. i can't do this alone. there's a ray of light already though i now have my very frst beauty consultant ever. something i would never have done 5 years ago and enterd a contest for lazor hair removal. i have to tell you, it's really lifted my spirits. now that i'm taking this course of action i feel lighter, happier, like a load has been lifted off of my shoulders. i know danger and uncertainty lurks ahead, but so does happiness, peace and contentment.

hugs and kisses,

sheila

That's awesome! I'm hoping to get my motorcycle license this summer. These gas prices are killing me. It's really hard to get a license when you don't ride or know anyone who does. Luckily, the Florida Highway Patrol offers a class that will let me borrow a bike and helmet. When I get my license, I'm looking at getting either a Honda Nighthawk or Rebel as a starter bike. What do you think of those?

hi stranded,

michigan has many places to take the road test and will also loan you a bike.my first bike was a suzuki 500 and had to only take a written exam. it's not like that anymore though. i rode honda 750

's for many years. i know the old 750's were so well built, they just keep going and going.1 was on a 72 honda 750 when i was hit by a 68 mustang. no plastic, all metal and he was going :) 40 mph. the guy ran a red light.i never held a grudge or was angry, i could have been the one in the car rushing to get home. i actually sold the bike and the guy fixed it up and is riding it to this day. it was in pretty bad shape but the frame wasn't bent and the motor's still good.if honda makes bikes like they use to then i would highly recommend a honda. after my accident i puchased my first harley, a 1200 sporster. but since getting this second harley, a heritage softtail, i don't ride the sporster anymore. only three times last year. i put racing pipes on both bikes, i was getting 50 mpg on the sporster but after the pipes i might be lucky to get 40 mpg. the softtail gets much worse gas mileage maybe 30-35 mpg. 40 mpg if i'm easy on the throttle. :D i'm not to familiar with the newer hondas but i stand behind them. whatever one you go with just remember to watch out for the other guy i.e. carsit happens alot where people really don't see you. that's one reason i installed really loud pipes. besides the fact i like my bikes loud. hope to see you on the road one day and ride safe. speaking of safe, i wouldn't hurt to take a safety course. it might lower your insurance rates. you live in a state where you can ride without a helmet but have to pay extra on your insurance. i wouldn't recommend it though. i had a helmet on when i was hit and saved myself from further injury, hitting my head and face on the windsheild. i cracked my face mask and had a sore nose for a couple of weeks but no further injuries in the head area. now i'm not trying to scare you or anybody else, i'm still riding, i've been riding legally since i was 18 without incident and was not going to be detered from riding. good luck with your licence and keep it between the ditches.

hi ray,

that's how i started out too. my friend had a honda super 90, the bike i learned on, and moved up. the softtail is a 96 c.i.. about 1550 cc's. i was thinking about not riding anymore, not very ladylike in my opinion, but with the gas prices the way they are i cannot afford to give it up. besides i see a lot of women riding so why not me too. :) and i gave stranded some sound advice if you want to check out my reply to him. mostly, use your common sense and you'll be fine. hondas are great bikes. i've owned quit a few and never had any problems. good luck with your licence ray and keep it between the ditches. :)

Sweet! Thanks, Sheila! I'm definitely taking the safety course that the highway patrol here offers. I think the safety thing is bundled with the "learn to ride" course. Someone around school has a sportster. They are beautiful. I know what you mean about the pipes. I think I'd like to be heard -- for safety reasons and otherwise.

That sounds like a pretty awful accident. I'm glad you made it out okay and are still around to offer advice to us newbies. I used to work for a neuropsychologist and I've seen some people get pretty banged up in motorcycle accidents. Yup, I'm all about the helmets.

Anyway, you are cool. Glad to have you around here!

I started estrogen (oral) a little before age 50 and not the maximum dose either and also no blockers. It almost immediately accentuated the feminine features I already had, and expanded my already soft areas of skin, widened my hips and distributed more fat to my thighs and increased my breast size. There seem to be some subtle changes to my face too though I doubt I am any more passable than I was a decade ago, it’s just nice to not use breast forms anymore. I haven’t switched to injections as planned and there really hasn’t been much change after the first 6 months and my body fights back; my E levels dropped and T increased even on the same dose so it has not really done much for me. It sounds like injections are the far better way to go, plus progesterone after a while if the doctor will prescribe that.    As is often said, everyone is unique and one’s mileage may vary, and what works for one person may not for another.

This is so sad. The violence in general in Washington State seems to have ramped up a lot, and gender-based violence and hate crimes seem to be worse as well. My parents once lived in Renton but I don’t care for that city and never go there. I don’t think it really matters though as crimes like this can happen anywhere and often are perpetrated by a male who was in a prior relationship with the victim.

I’ve never been in therapy specifically labeled as such, butI think IFS therapy evolved from treatment of dissociative identity disorder in which one’s various alters or parts are treated as an internal family, and each part is like a separate individual who can be spoken to individually or have dialogue with other parts. In a person with full DID, doing that supposedly helps to break down the dissociative barriers that cause that person to not be able to remember what they did for parts of a day or longer. This was the case with me.   Anyone’s mind, though, can be thought of as being compartmentalized to some extent and we all can have an inner child and various aspects of our selves, yet the dissociation is never to a degree that it causes problems like with DID. But the same aspects of working with an internal family or different aspects of self, like the inner child, the rebellious teen, the persecutor parental type, etc, can help heal trauma nonetheless. I think many of us do have sides of us that we don’t like, or others don’t like, and it can be useful to examine how they came about and what purpose they serve as they are often a means of self-protection or coping with anxiety.

We had soup and steamed rice for dinner tonight.  Simple, basic, feed-a-ton-of-people kind of food.  With strawberries for dessert!  We have a huge strawberry patch, so I spent a couple of hours this afternoon picking.  And there's some left over, which I put in the downstairs kitchenette.  Time for a late night snack!     Outside of meals, I mostly live by nibbling on fruit and a few green things.

Well, it is officially summer.  85 degrees outside the last two days, and GF is sick and irritable.  I have to curl up under heavy blankets in my nest, because she's got the AC turned down to the point I expect to see icicles growing on the ceiling.  This is what life is like when your partner is an arctic creature. I should be used to it by now, but just when I think its nice and warm, she has to freeze me.

Well, that might be interesting.  At least since she's 24, its not like you're on the hook for expenses.

Been using the wok on the back deck a lot the last few months.  Just got another stock of udon noodles from Amazon and we are using those in the stir fry with onions, peppers and a spicy peanut sauce.  I did this often in the 90's too, but back then I was just using a standard Coleman camp stove instead of this high BTU wok burner.  I've had the burner for a couple years, but haven't been using it regularly until recently.

Tangent, adjacent, opposite...  It's still rock n' roll to me.  I don't know about the "in god we trust" part of the money, but I like the lady with the scale.  And then I look left at the Indian statue on my mantel of Guanyin feeding a drop of liquid to the dragon at her feet.  In god we trust?  The lady with the scale?  Maybe this is too binary.  And then on the other side of Guanyin is that kind of pelican wood bird that sits two feet tall that I hauled back from South America through the Panama canal.  The beak broke in 1998 and I carefully saved the pieces (as I usually do) and attached them back about a decade ago.  I used a drill to make a small hole and then put a finish nail in there.  Then a hole on those two pieces that needed to be attached.  Upper and Lower beak.  There is still a seam showing.  I could cover that up, but the beak is a bright yellow and well, it's better with all the pieces in place and I don't mind seeing the crack.  I guess that is the tangent and the other two are the opposite and adjacent. -money  Why don't coders always code the "-" action in their search fields?  It's not that difficult!

Definitely points to learn and keep in mind.  A bunch of stuff I had put in mental "cold storage" thawed out a bit there and ready again to run through my mill.  As said, a bit long and as usual from her a tad bit challenging.  Overall I see it and can use it as a working hypothesis.
