What Should I Wear To Swim?

This has been a concern of mine even before I even knew I was trans.

I want to try swimming as an exercise this summer. It seems like a good muscle builder, seems fun, and I need to learn how to swim anyway.

After a certain age girls are expected not to wear one-pieces, plus they're hard to find. I'd hate to wear a bikini.

It's ironic, Kid, you and I are about 40 years apart in age (as far as I can tell) and we are going in different directions,

gender-wise. Yet, we have a similar problem.

I'm going on 10 months HRT, and in December I;m heading south for a brief vacation in Mexico, and I would like to swim while

down there. So, I think what I have planned might work for you as well.

Regular men's/boys swim trunks, with a sports bra covered by a T-shirt. It might get a curious stare or two, but it might work.

In your case it should if you're not too well endowed upstairs.

Anyone else have a suggestion, for either of us?

I have a bit of a problem when I go swimming, as I use male bathers, but have a bust that likes to be comfortably kept in a bra, so when I get out of the pool or sea, I really can't get my bra on quick enough, for comfort.

I have not had enough courage to get a one piece ladies swimming costume or 2 piece one as yet.

I ran into this same problem this past summer. I did what Carolyn has though of. I just got a nice (right now cheap) pair of swim trunks and a bra with a shirt over it. Yeah you can't avoid it clinging to the chest area but you couldn't really help that. If your smaller upstairs then it'll work better for you than what it did for me. Either way its better than a bikini or one piece in my opinion.

If I recall correctly I'm a size 36... D? I can't find any bras with the letter at this moment.

I heard that swimming with a shirt would be awkward, and difficult. Maybe I should opt for a OP - trunks combo.

I have solved my own swimming fears with clothing designed for UV protection. I have fair skin and need to keep it covered. So, after several hours I have found my perfect swim top!

Can't go with the rash guards as they are too tight and too thin to hide a bust but this shirt from Splashgear is perfect for modesty! http://www.swimoutlet.com/product_p/8816.htm

I like the pants but they didn't have them in a color I liked.

I haven't heard than after a certain age you shouldn't wear a one piece.

I see lots of them for sale at the thrift stores :)

I would wear whatever you feel comfortable with

Even before I realised I was transgender, I hated wearing girlie stuff to swim. I felt like I was on show and didn't like it, so I started wearing board shorts and a really baggy t-shirt to swim. It's not that hard to swim in so long as you're not trying to break speed records. Also, now that UV is such a problem, even really mainstream people are covering up to swim. Which is kind of funny :-) Also, I don't see too well without my glasses so I've got prescription goggles - in shocking pink ;-) Okay, you probably don't want to wear those....!

Also about one pieces: I can think of a lot of women and men who shouldn't wear anything BUT :-) I think the old-style guys' bathing costumes were kind of cool.

One pieces are the way to go for this old girl, still have not done the public beach thing yet, only private pool, that might be a real rush someday after a year or so of HRT ! I own a few of them, prefer floral prints (loud). Way back when in boy mode, I would prefer the long surfer shorts (always floral prints), back then we called them "jammers".

Peace

Personally, I think the moderators here strike the perfect balance, and I'd like to thank you all for your efforts.

Don't forget TJ Maxx for purses.  I have purchased several from there.  They offer a great variety with good prices.  You can even find high-end bags at affordable prices.   @Ladypcnj purses are one of my weaknesses as well.

When I get stuck in androgynous mode for an extended period I have to admit that I salve the dysphoria at times through retail therapy.    And, I've been busy. I search for bargains a lot of eBay, put items on my watchlist, wait for an offer and then typically make a lower counter-offer. Most of the items I buy are new. The strategy has gotten me some amazing deals on brand name clothes.   I will also admi to being a Talbot's Girl and all these are Talbot's items. Their clothes just seem ti fit me well. New in my closet are:

We have even had them here from time to time I am afraid.   The rights of Free Speech actually carry a weighty responsibility to take the consequences of making that speech and it is that responsibility where the persons making the FREE hateful statements break down.  They insist that the Right shields them from the consequences, but it makes them all the more liable for them in reality.

When and if a post is removed here, there is always a PM to the poster to explain the action and offer them an opportunity to amend the post to align with T&C's (if possible).     Certainly!  There are always those who will flaunt the rules.

Actually, Memorial Day is the day where we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.   Veteran's Day, November 11th, is the day where we honor all who served.   Here is something I found that distinguishes among Memorial, Veteran's and Armed Forces day.

I think Norstrom and Marshalls would be the top leading stores for both fashion and their collections of purses.

Welcome to TGP, Amy! You'll find many like-minded people here as well as tons of information. Don't worry about trying to describe yourself. Relax, ask questions, and join in where you feel comfortable.    I started out like you, crossdressing in private, even hiding it from my wife, before coming to the realization that it was much more. I'm still only out to my wife, therapist and priest.....and, of course, everyone here. We all understand how difficult it can be to find oneself amid the emotions and challenges.    We are each unique yet share many commonalities.    We're glad you found us!

You are more brave than I. It's only 60 here right now.

I was doing my best to get past the fear and shame i felt whenever i went out in public so when i went to therapy and later to my doctor i presented as the woman i felt myself to be.  There was a policy that one had to live as their chosen gender for a year prior to starting HRT.  In some ways that seemed almost right to me as one of the hardest things we do is the entry into society as ourselves.     Of course the way you dress is up to you but be assured that your doctor is there to support not denigrate your decision.   Hugs,   Charlize

You are right, there are no actual 'roos in Tassie, just their smaller cousins like wallabies and pademelons. Devils are really cute. If you got to see the adults in full noise, you can easily understand why they got portrayed that way in the Looney Tunes cartoons! Emus, or 'bush chooks', have a habit of sneaking up on you and stealing food. I was at an open range zoo a few years ago and was holding a bag of pellets behind me to hide it from the emus in front of me, when one snuck up behind me and stole it. I've never jumped so high in my life! I almost needed to change my undies! 😆
