Slips - Anybody Out There Still Wear Them ?

Hey Laura's Place pals,

Anybody still wear slips ? If so what do you like about them ? Are there any brands that rise above ? Half slips, Full slips, Chemise's ?

For myself growing up in the 60's, the Vanity fair slips of that era just rock. I am also a big fan of Farr West http://www.farrwest.com - They harp back to a more glamorous era, one of style and elegance.

I also grew up back then and a woman wouldn't think of wearing a dress/skirt without a slip...

It honestly never crossed my mind, though...although I have 15-20 skirts...I have no slips....

Maybe it's time to re-think that...

Months back I had on a summer skirt and as I walked past an open door, my wife said..."You need a slip under there, you can see right through it!"

They are so functional, and just feel so good under the dress or skirt, pretty much a fashion must for us more (cough) mature girls

Nice to wear around them around the house on warm day, or sleep in (Chemise).

I have two slips for the few skirts i have that need them other than that i do not wear them. Although i do agree they do feel nice against the skin.

I like them - especially their feel of coolness on a hot summer's day. So many dresses now are lined if they are sheer material, and I guess that solves the need for a slip usually. And full slips add additional shoulder straps. So that is either good or bad depending how you feel about managing all that extra straping! Grin

Half slips are so functional! And they make fuller skirts look even fuller. Slips are not exactly petticoats - but seen to be about the same in popularity these days - that is - a throwback to more dressier days... sigh.

I would have slips in my wardrobe, but I don't really need them today. Dresses are not as common nowdays. We wear jeans and a blouse.

Yes, I do wear a slip. I don't understand why slips have gone out of style, because I find I still need to wear one under my dresses and skirts sometimes. I wear half-slips with lace on the bottom.

Many times when I am relaxing at home, I am wearing just a slip (no dress over it).

I really like slips too. They are most feminine. They were the nearest thing to dresses that I once had. I lost some rather nice ones in past purges.

I haven't noticed any in the shops recently. If do find any I will definitely buy them.

I wear a plain chemise almost every day; instead of a vest.

I think a good slip is almost a necessity if you are wearing a dress that is not lined.

If the dress has a lining in it, a slip kind of becomes optional i think.

The type of dress also can dictate whether or not you would desire a slip.

I'm not too fond of pencil skirts and dresses, but it seems that they don't often require a slip, as they are kind of tight fitting.

I have wondered if I would need a slip. I know a few years ago my mom used to wear one under her clothes for work but even that has stopped so maybe they're not as much of a necessity as they used to be? I've looked them up on the major department store catalogs and even then the choices aren't that great so maybe they're not in demand as much now.

I certainly do wear slips. Sometimes full, sometimes just half. I have some very pretty lace trimmed ones that I like to wear on their own sometimes.

Yes! I still wear slips whenever I can. I really enjoy wearing them, half or full. I prefer full slips though, they feel so much nicer. I wear a full slip most everyday and even a nice silk cammi over it, all under my outer clothes. One thing I noticed though, Walmart dosent sell full slips anymore, don't know why? I know K-mart still does.

Hi Cindy , slips are a must when you wear a skirt. I mostly own half slips, very sexy with lace and side slits. Vanity Fair is the best brand. Nothing feels better than a slip against your skin very feminine!

Slips are cool, sexy, and very practical. That's what I like about slips, they make a skirt or a dress feel even better.

I used to wear them. And you've got me itching to wear one now ) You know I would just LOVE to be put into one of those floor length period gowns that the women used to wear in olden times. Just for a few hours and really feel what it's like to have all of that lace and everything under my dress and around my legs. That would be fantastic even though the corsetry would be so restrictive.

If you have never worn a corset you haven't truely lived. They are amazing.

First off, you can't have bad posture. Like a harsh mistress they punish you for slouching and shuffling along.

Second, they take almost any figure and make it hourglass. Even mine!

Third, you think heels and a skirt make you feel fem, a corset makes the rest of your clothes seem like jeans and t-shirts.

I've got two corsets and two bustiers that I love to slip into when I have time. My wife has an old ren fair costume that looks amazing with a corset over it.

slips of course people still wear slips. when they dress in a dress or skirt thats thin or whatever..

michelle used to wear a certain girdle thing she found at JC Pennys stores.. she wasnt fat but it was a wee bit padded so she liked it for the shape since she was so thin at the hip and butt. it didnt have noticable seams or you know, you couldnt tell she was wearing it when she had it on, so that helped, she also liked it because it made, you know, certain parts not so noticable too, but it wasnt so tight it hurt either.

if youre gonna wear a light or thin or light colored dress...wear a slip. with the sunlight behind you, it can show too much sometimes, if the light goes thru the material. makes bad photos sometimes.

I'm a parent of a transgender girl kind of browsing around. Corsets and ren faire costumes flatter almost anybody. I have virtually no bustline at all. AA and A-, that's me. Somebody who did medieval costuming said to me years ago, "Cleavage? Anybody can have cleavage. You don't even need to have breasts to have cleavage," and laced me up in her corset. She was so right! I actually think it's a pity we can't all wear renaissance clothing all the time. There would be far less body issues, I swear.
