DOUBTS

Friends tell me what I want to hear,

Words, like snowflakes float before me.

They dance like dreamy wisps so dear,

So painful truth is hidden from me.

Sometimes the road ahead spreads out,

In fields of greens and golds and blues;

And I forget my fears and doubts,

While my vision clouds in darker hues.

When I again see clear in moments brief

I spy rocks and ruts strewn on my path;

It is then that joy turns swift to grief,

Complacent happiness turns into wrath.

Myself alone I have to blame,

For self deception's cruel disguise.

I treat this journey like a game,

And think I am not fool, but wise.

The price for arrogance is high,

I did not pay heed to dangers plain;

I let fair words deceive my eyes,

Now ruined lives are my true shame.

Carolyn, is normal to want to hear people say good things about us, even fi they are false. They think they're protecting us, from a greater harm. When, in reality, the opposite is true. So please, don't be so harsh upon yourself, we all make mistakes, just have to learn from them and move on. Especially when it involves a love one.
