6 Month Update

Hello, all!

Today, December 14th, is my 6 months of HRT. It's one of those huge milestones for all transsexuals to reach, in my opinion.

Wow, 6 months... so much has changed.... ok that's a big lie.

I had my levels checked a few weeks ago, and everything is perfect, and at the moment, we're still not adjusting me from the normal "starter dose." It's all that my body needs! And since my potassium levels were perfect (thank you, spironolactone...), I treated myself to a banana ;)

I have noticed extremely minimal changes, showing that transition is different for everybody. Mentally, I haven't become more emotional, I haven't thought rationally about sitiations (i lose my temper far too often), but one thing I have noticed is I show more compassion for others. I just love helping my mom out with errands and going to visit my grandmother and, heck, actually having a conversation with my dad where nobody is screaming!

Physically, a lot has happened, but in a complicated way. My jaw slimmed out (bye-bye, muscle!), but if you compare "before" photos to now, that's it. I've had some breast growth, but that has actually reversed itself to the point of me having almost no breasts again. Same with my butt, which had gotten really nice. My waist is also 2 inches smaller (now 25"), but I weigh 16 pounds less than I did when I began HRT (I'm 6'1", 104 lbs.) I have a feeling that's why I have almost no breasts (in a family of average/large boobies, each woman waking up one day to realize "oh my gosh my boobs are huge!" ha!), and no fat on my cheeks to soften out my bone structure. Hmm...

I'm going to Toronto the first weekend of January with my mom. It's my christmas present! I'm going shopping! I would have preferred to go to NYC, I've never been there before, but Toronto is far closer to me, so it's cheaper. Always money with my mom....

Well.... That's really all I have to update about. The semester is over, so I'm off of classes until January 18th. So not excited for that one. I don't know what to do with my life anymore, which is common, according to my therapist. To quote him: "Once the gender thing is out of the way.... now what?"

Kaitlin, that's an awesome report. Congrats on six months!

Everything seems to be coming along fine. But I do have one concern, hon - your weight.

6'1" and 104 pounds is rail thin for a GG woman. That seems on the verge of dangerous

territory. Please keep an eye on it and make sure you aren't anemic or have any other

problems associated with being too thin.

I know, I'm just a busy body Aunt, but what can I do? :P I'm a Jewish middle-aged woman, and dayge (worry)is part of my soul.

Kaitlin, I agree with Carolyn. 104 pounds at 6'1" is pushing the danger level for your health. You need to see a doctor about the possibility that you are too thin.

It's great to know you care! One of the many reasons you're a forum mod ;)

Actually, my iron levels are HIGH, so I don't need to worry about anemia. Everything is well with my body.

And to be honest, you could tempt me with the impossibly dramatic hourglass curves of Marilyn Monroe, but I'd much rather be a lamp post. Minimalistic, if you will.

Can't say that isn't wonderful news! :P

When one need is met- another one arises. I've always wondered personally how I'd date in college while maintaining my privacy (I'm a big fan of total disclosure in a *relationship*, but the girl in calculus does not need to know- of you catch my drift . . . :) ) I realize that last part isn't a question~ but if you answered (as much as you were *comfortable* answering- as some things I get aren't *everyone's* need-to-know) it anyways that'd be wonderful :D!

GOOD LUCK!

Or rather . . . Merry Christmas!

Exactly, now I have to figure out what I'm going to do. I'm going to college for communication design (just a fancy schmancy way to say "advertising"), and I have no idea if I want to do that anymore. My only other option is cosmetology, since I know WAY too much about hair, and love makeup (it takes me 20-35 minutes to do my face in the morning, usually because I'm tired and lazy, but I have a lot to put on!)

And date in college? Please. I haven't met a single guy all semester. Everyone in the art department is either female (about 90% of the dept.), or very homosexual.

A funny thing I forgot to mention is that before, I did everything alone. I had actually zero friends from sixth grade up until my senior year of highschool, and I was actually perfectly fine with that. Insults would just roll off of me, and I'd move on. Now, I take everything personally, and I absolutly CRAVE a relationship to the point of flirting with everything that lives and breathes and is remotely male. Also, my friends are truly amazing and I finally re-connected with my best friend who I haven't seen in months (she lives down the street, too...), but I feel lonely all the time. Goodness, I need help.... Ha!

Thank you, and Merry Christmas!

Dear Kaitlin,

Feeling lonely all of the time is rather natural it would seem, but it is not anything that is too serious really because a lot of it is self imposed by so many of us - like your case but now it will be up to you to break that cycle.

Shopping in Toronto is a lot better than not shopping at all or shopping in a Tractor Supply Store because it is all that is around - we all have ideal situations that we long for but we need to learn to accept reality graciously and enjoy what is offered to us.

As to what to do next - what do you really want to do - forget about making a living for a moment and just think about what you would really like to do for the rest of your life - then try to find a way to make that a career.

Love ya,

Sally

Ha, you are too funny!

The only thing I could really see myself truly doing and being happy with is a stay-at-home wife, a homemaker. To a rich husband, of course. I'd love to just wake up and spend my day cooking, cleaning, etc. I could never see myself out in the workforce for some reason.

And oh no, I am NOT raising any babies. I don't like children.

Can't say I'm surprised! ^_^ That's just one more reason for me to consider engineering xD I'd very much prefer a male dominated career, as statistically- you're more likely to well. . . find a man!

I can't say cosmetology is a great choice as a career in my mind ( o_o any job based on being gregarious and more talented than the other girl wouldn't make me feel that secure. . . financiall :P ).

I'd gotten used to being very single until. . . well recently (its like now "everyone" around me is in a relationship) =/

Though I must agree- if I wasn't so set on being "capable of independence" I would be a stay at home mom in a second =/ Unfortunately I'll have quite a few bills to pay. boo!

-Anywho, good luck!

Good morning @Adrianna Danielle   I’m glad you agreed to the paternity test.    My Uncle found himself in a similar situation and after the test he was faced with explaining his infidelity and one night stand to his wife and family. Not only did the test come back; “YOU ARE THE FATHER” she looked like a sister to the other children in his family. This was a “23 & Me” moment confirmed by an independent test. The most important reason for the young lady to search for her father, was medical history and peace of mind. The blessing of the test was her understanding and willingness to disappear into obscurity. That was not what my Uncle or his family wanted to happen. She was family and they wanted to know her and eventually love her as a family member. The next 4th of July family gathering, she was introduced to the rest of her extended family and I gained a cousin. My prayers for you as you navigate all the possibilities, and I hope it works out for everyone involved.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Well I’m short on time again!   I had to move to the couch around 3:15 this morning. Unfortunately my wife’s med vac was making a lot of noise which woke me up and I couldn’t sleep. Then I over slept because my alarm wasn’t set correctly, my fault.    @Mirrabooka Hobart is a beautiful city and Tasmania is a wonderful place to visit. I was there several times in the 80s.    @Birdie Texas isn’t the only state with such laws.  Don’t try going to a public bathroom in Florida either. Now there laws aren’t based on chromosomes or anything like that but it’s a birth certificate as far as I know.  That Texas law is a tough one, really anti transgender in all respects. Except!  What if you have an extra chromosome?  Or DNA that’s flipped?  Did they think of that situation?  Medical theory suggests that is the case when it come to Transgender people, but especially the young ones.  Also, IQ, that tends to be higher than average.  There are a lot of things about us the medical science is studying, not just psychology.   got to go   Willow

I started estrogen (oral) a little before age 50 and not the maximum dose either and also no blockers. It almost immediately accentuated the feminine features I already had, and expanded my already soft areas of skin, widened my hips and distributed more fat to my thighs and increased my breast size. There seem to be some subtle changes to my face too though I doubt I am any more passable than I was a decade ago, it’s just nice to not use breast forms anymore. I haven’t switched to injections as planned and there really hasn’t been much change after the first 6 months and my body fights back; my E levels dropped and T increased even on the same dose so it has not really done much for me. It sounds like injections are the far better way to go, plus progesterone after a while if the doctor will prescribe that.    As is often said, everyone is unique and one’s mileage may vary, and what works for one person may not for another.

This is so sad. The violence in general in Washington State seems to have ramped up a lot, and gender-based violence and hate crimes seem to be worse as well. My parents once lived in Renton but I don’t care for that city and never go there. I don’t think it really matters though as crimes like this can happen anywhere and often are perpetrated by a male who was in a prior relationship with the victim.

I’ve never been in therapy specifically labeled as such, butI think IFS therapy evolved from treatment of dissociative identity disorder in which one’s various alters or parts are treated as an internal family, and each part is like a separate individual who can be spoken to individually or have dialogue with other parts. In a person with full DID, doing that supposedly helps to break down the dissociative barriers that cause that person to not be able to remember what they did for parts of a day or longer. This was the case with me.   Anyone’s mind, though, can be thought of as being compartmentalized to some extent and we all can have an inner child and various aspects of our selves, yet the dissociation is never to a degree that it causes problems like with DID. But the same aspects of working with an internal family or different aspects of self, like the inner child, the rebellious teen, the persecutor parental type, etc, can help heal trauma nonetheless. I think many of us do have sides of us that we don’t like, or others don’t like, and it can be useful to examine how they came about and what purpose they serve as they are often a means of self-protection or coping with anxiety.

We had soup and steamed rice for dinner tonight.  Simple, basic, feed-a-ton-of-people kind of food.  With strawberries for dessert!  We have a huge strawberry patch, so I spent a couple of hours this afternoon picking.  And there's some left over, which I put in the downstairs kitchenette.  Time for a late night snack!     Outside of meals, I mostly live by nibbling on fruit and a few green things.
