Fashion Advice?

I know the types of things I like. I know what looks good on me (for the most part anyway). I'm having an issue though. Most of what I like are things that would draw attention to me. I like more fashionable clothes that tend to be a bit more flashy in style. Nothing revealing, or with lots of sequins, or anything like that but i still feel like if I went out in some of the things I want it would draw unwanted attention. I can't really pull off the t-shirt and jeans look as my body shape is still too masculine for anything form fitting. I can't wear anything that reveals too much chest as even after I shave, you can still see stubble. I'm sort of at a loss of things to look at that would look good on me. I know that it is hard to recommend things with out seeing me in person, but does anyone have some suggestions of what sort of thing to start looking at?

Monika,

I had the same problem with the chest hair in the early months as well. Shaving doesn't work that well as you have described. My solution was to pluck it all out and every few days I pluck again. It now grows very thin and there is now shadow even if I get lazy and shave it. depending on your body this may not work well for you. Moving on to suggestion two. It is winter and the time for turtlenecks is upon us. I have three, no four that I wear regularly. Some are sleeveless and other long sleeved. It gets rid of two problem areas the throat an chest. I have noticed that most of the close I get from thrift stores is a little short in the body. What to do? I solve that problem by wearing long camisole underneath. It also helps with plunging neck lines. I have a sweater set that the top sweater buttons at the top and that is it. You are tall if I remember and you will always be the center of attention in any room you walk into. as long as you aren't wearing provocative clothing go for it girl. You only have one life to live and you will only be young and beautiful for a little while before you are mature and beautiful. I am always getting compliments on my clothes and it makes me feel great when I do. I spend a lot of time putting together outfits and jewelery and shoes and tights and purses and make up together for a complete look. I feel better about myself and it shows. I have been stared down by some very pretty girls in San Diego and I stare right back. I am a special kind of woman and and I live like it.

Honey.....

I'm 60 and full time...My experience growing up was the "peasant skirts" ...puffy blouses and tie-dye stuff for girls...

But I missed all of that...

Now I dress "age appropriate"...but, stylishly!

It all depends on your stage of transition,I suppose....you mention that the "jeans and T shirt" won't cut it right now...But, don't sell youselof short...half of the people in the world are women...all shapes and sizes...

to be able to make any suggestions...

There is always a way!

Just from my personal experience, I tried the Jeans and t-shirt and actually look pretty good in it. I am overweight and when I wore my guys clothes it always has to be baggy and I felt horrible if my stomach showed or my moobs. I first bought woman's jeans years ago way before hrt. I started trying ladies t-shirt about 6 months ago and realized it was more comfortable being tighter and noticed it is cut differently in the body/waist area, even with broad shoulders and a bit of a belly the shirts make me feel slimmer and the make my breasts stand out more. They are also cut differently in the bottom part to fit the hips but the actually make hips look a bit wider. And just to top it off it is made of a much softer materiel than guys t shirt. (I love being a woman, my clothes are all softer) I must say that the JMS from walmart is very cheap and looks ok when you put them on but don't hold their shape at all, but it is a very inexpensive first t shirt to try.Hope this helps some.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll be going out for the first time in years pretty soon, and really just want to blend in. Most of the things I like are from places like Banana Republic, Buckle, and Nordstrom. I just want to be able to go out and be me, not have to worry about people noticing me.

Emily, thanks for the turtleneck suggestion. I'll have to see what I can find.

DJ, thanks for the pep talk! I'll have to revisit the t-shirt and jeans thing. I'm just afraid of looking pregnant or something.

Nadine, I'll have to go and check out those t-shirts! Thanks for the suggestion.

Well, are the styles you like appropriate for the place you would be wearing them? Meaning do you see other women wearing similar styles or colors? If not then you may want to reconsider or at least tone down the colors. For me, I used to stick with earth-tone solid colors as they were drab and not eye-catching. Lately though I have found myself wearing prints more (at least for tops) and also wearing purple more. If you have a cute outfit on, it usually doesn't matter the color but more how you wear it and how good it looks on you.

I've also read in a lot of magazines that you don't have to splurge on latest styles and trends but incorporate one or two latest trend items into your regular wardrobe. The example they used was instead of buying an animal print blouse, buy an animal print belt or bracelet and work it into your outfit that way.

I personally have stopped wearing t-shirts with jeans. Jeans go well with cute regular tops as well, so find a cute one you like and pair it with jeans for a nice casual every day outfit.

Everybody's advice to you on this thread is just great. Completely agree with everything everybody told you. These are smart, stylish gals here with real-world experience. Listen to them.

All I can possibly add is to go with your instincts, hon. The places you shop at are GREAT places in my book anyway. My tastes seem to run similarly to yours: Flashy but with color rather than garrishness, upscale casual look that pops according to your taste and instinct.

I'd dress to your tastes, your instinct and your whims. Strut your stuff and love it. Radiate, girl. How? By being yourself.

Try it and see!

;) Lacey

@awkward-yet-sweet I hope you get to go on the trip! I'm assuming from what you wrote that your husband is a trucker. I know what it's like to have diesel in your veins, to sit in a cab for hours on end enjoying the scenery and listening to the music of a big engine, it's pretty awesome and there's nothing quite like it.   @Birdie When ya gotta go, ya gotta go! I hope your state laws catch up with reality one day, but I won't hold my breath waiting.   Well, we might have a bit of an awkward situation happening here soon. It's our 40th anniversary this July and last week we finally decided to do something to celebrate it by going on an interstate getaway to a city which we love, Hobart. Flights are booked and paid for, accommodation in a nice hotel booked, a day cruise while we are there booked and paid for, etc. Meanwhile, our son and DIL dropped in yesterday with our 2mo granddaughter. We told them that we finally got off our behinds and booked a trip and everyone was happy. Then, they told us about our granddaughters' baptism which was organized for June 9th. No worries, we'll be there!    Fast forward a few hours and DIL contacted us to say that June 9th was off because one of the God parents isn't available, and the *only* alternative is for the weekend that we are away! Grrrr! So why couldn't they choose a later date? Because baby might grow out of her outfit by then! I know what will probably happen, there will be a heated discussion and to keep the peace we will once again cave in to the demands of others who never stop wanting a piece of us and we will end up canceling our trip.   First world problem I know, but we're getting pretty frustrated since my retirement last year that we can't seem to do anything for ourselves for more than a day or two at a time.

April, Those are beautiful. You may want to check out the offerings from this company, Trisha Waldron Designs. I discovered her jewelry a few years ago when I was at the Rapid City Regional Airport in Rapid City, SD. They have a gift shop there that had her jewelry. Heavens to Murgatroyd! What if Governor Abbott has installed genitalia scanners on the commodes? I suppose they could collect, catalog, and then with the genitalia scanner, activate the Klaxon, the red lights, and then initiate the barriers to contain you until the police arrive. Weird times, and weirder politicians, call for extreme measures. All of this caused by you wanting a gladder bladder. Woe is the world...   On a more real world note, be careful Birdie. Someone may snitch you out just to see what happens.

Congratulations on the ear piercing @MirandaB!! You'll get over the concerns about sleeping on them or how they're healing quickly. I found myself scouring Amazon and eBay for different types of earrings so I had them on hand when I was healed. My favorite earrings are a pair of flame painted brass feathers and I have a pair of leaves I love, too. So many possibilities once you're healed!!!     @Mmindy- I totally understand the puppy routine. We've has our girl for a week now and I'm amazed at how quickly she's learning. She is totally acclimated to her crate now. She also sleeps 6 or 7 hours each night. Yesterday, she started going to the door and sitting when she needed to go out to the bathroom. Still, it's play for an hour or so and then crash. It's as if you can see her growing as you look at her.   I have been absent a lot here - so much going on with my wife's mother now in hospice, my aunt that I've been helping for over a year now moved locally into skilled nursing and the new puppy not to mention the normal things around our house. I get way behind in cutting the grass and am just finally getting the pool ready. Ugh.    Can someone please figure out how to add more time to the day?   I miss the interaction here. But, I'll get things settled soon and be back to my normal....as if I'm at all normal.    Have an awesome day, everyone!!!

Good morning everyone,    Parker started to make noises in his crate with a chew toy at 04:50. I was able to catnap until 06:00 when I had to get out of bed. In my pjs I took Parker outside for a run around the backyard. Gave him his first bowl of puppy kibble and water, then started brewing my coffee. He finished off his kibble and played tag with Sheldon (male cat) in and around the dining room table and chairs. I’m on my second cup of coffee and they are both asleep.    @Birdie you are such an inspiration, be safe and go with confidence into the bathroom of your choice. Most people understand you just need to…   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Now for another push downward from a certain political group in Congress. There is an effort by Congressional Rs to cut funding to any nonprofit group supporting LGBTQ individuals. As reported on the NBC News website (https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/house-republicans-lgbtq-nonprofits-rcna152753), the house appropriations committee is attempting to block Economic Development Initiative funding to any group helping us. Don't you just feel the love. Apparently that loving former vice president we had during Trump's presidency, does not believe that public funding should not be providing funding for at-risk transgender minors. One must wonder how much more hateful some of these individuals will become.

There are some housing assistance links on the internet, but I would recommend contacting an Lgbtq+ community support group in your area, they would know places that are safer for her.

Yes, I have however, her situation wasn't about housing, but rather getting out of a bad relationship. I took her in until it was safe for her to leave, and now she's happy spending time with her daughter.
