Hi guys,

Well i got back the quote from my plastic surgeon and it turns out that for a bill of 10 grand after medicare rebates and stuff i will be out of pocket that much money... so sadly not in this lifetime will i have my surgical transition started... :( :( :(

Here is a question for you fellows....

I am donned with the biggest chest size i swear known to man... maybe not as big as dolly partons , but huge by any standard... in australia my "bra"size is 20 DD. they hang to my stomach and are huge pendulous and disgusting....

Do any of your fellows have any tips at all for how to make your own custom binder, or binding tips i can live with, with such a HUGE chest that i can wear everyday??? comfortably???

I soooo would love your help on this cause i have to do something that helps me be able to live with these aweful things since finances have sadly let me down..

Thanks in advance,

Shaun

hmmm....well, i'm not sure about the binders, but maybe having surgery in another country??? there are someplaces that have very good, reputable surgeons but won't put you on food stamps.

I agree with Drew. In the US and elsewhere there are several very reputable surgeons who have a flat rate (or at least a lower one) for top surgery (all sizes). If you can get together the money to fly to a different country you should still save considerable $$ and be able to find a surgeon who will do your surgery for much less than ten grand. Also, if you find a skilled, reputable surgeon elsewhere from the US you could possibly save more, they are out there and many offer recovery/recuperation packages which include your recovery expenses (accomadations post-op, food, hotel, etc) in the surgeon's flat fee. Don't give up, you may have to shop around a little but you should definately be able to eventually get top surgery. :)

One possibility,if you've got steady employment, is taking a surgical loan and working it off over time. Probably not the ideal option, but possible. That's what I'm thinking about doing for lower surgery after I graduate from school... I'd rather be working my *ss off because of debt than to be incomplete. That's just me and I'm still young and reckless :-)

Sadly in this country you cant get loans for surgery like that.... not that sort of amount....however i have decided to leave the surgery for a few years for when i am actually financially better off :). all good things come to those who wait :)

I know you've probably heard this, Shaun, but one thing I might recommend in the mean time to help with your chest size is to lose some weight. I'm a heavy dude, too (luckily my chest takes after my dad's side and isn't that big, but my mom's and grandma's are) and live in a family that's got the 'fat gene'... all the women have huge chests like you describe. I've seen it when my mom loses a lot of weight, her bra size drops dramatically. That might help you bind a little better. Also, don't worry about being completely flat. People say that I bind really well, but I really don't. I just have a big gut that makes my chest look flat in comparison. Bigger guys realistically don't have flat chests.

Hope that helps a little.

That's a great suggestion. One thing I did was start a Pinterest board.  If I see something I like, I pin it without overthinking it too much.  Eventually a pattern emerges of the kind of clothes that appeal to me.  I'm very concerned about being age and venue-appropriate so I concentrate on more "everyday" outfits rather than the sexy stuff.  Not that the sexy stuff isn't fun though.....

Thank you, @Vidanjali! I'm in the process of applying to universities to transfer to (I got to a local community college currently), and I've got my eye on a specific one but I'm apply to 2-3 more just in case.  I'm also trying to apply for a job!  Another minor update is that I'm able to purchase trans tape now! I got it in blue because I like colors and pink was sold out, but hopefully the adhesive reacts well to my skin and I can use it to bind. This is another weapon I may have in the ongoing battle with dysphoria, but I think if it works, it'll work really well!  Fingers crossed, and y'all have a good day!

I can relate to looking in the mirror at a young age in life, whenever I explained to my parents, it resulted in a car ride to the hospital emergency room.

Hi all, a bit more about the story - I just realised the first message didn't tell you much! It's called 'Going Out', set in the UK, and it's by me, Nicola Atherton, if you search Amazon. Have a little read of the first two chapters which are there for free in the 'Look Inside' bit. It's a lovely long read, a gradual, detailed, emotional story which I’m sure some will find at times painfully raw, while at other times unbearably exciting. I wrote it for us lot :) It starts off as a gradual, realistic intro into Amy’s solitary world, before she accepts what she’s always known to be true. She makes friends with girls and meets men, and her story plays out in a way that others have said they enjoyed very much. I think you'll all love it :) PAPERACK copy.pdf

Wow! Hopefully that encounter is amicable! I can only imagine what might be going through your mind right now!   I was a bit of a prude, I don't even need a whole hand of fingers to count my sexual partners on. Good old fear-based Catholic "sex ed" did its number on me.   I get nervous walking into men's rooms. I don't look the part for the either restroom these days, I guess. I did use the women's at the convention I volunteered at (the restrooms were temporarily made gender free though), it was nice having a stall to use without waiting.   The whole bathroom debate is so stupid. Genital-based restroom assignments aren't going to stop people intending abuse and there are laws for handling them already. It's the fear the laws strike and the conditions they creates is the problem, fomenting distrust and hate. Who cares who is in the stall next to you? Let them pee in peace!

Good morning! Just finishing my delayed coffee after fasting for routine bloodwork.   Just had my annual physical and I came out to my Dr. He was so kind and said if/when I want to start HRT they have a couple endocrinologists who specialize in transition and he could give me a referral. So nice! Not quite ready to jump into that yet, but he was so understanding. Another small step in my social transition. I feel so happy! 😊

Not a quote, but a poem; "Invictus," by William Henley.  I had it hanging on the wall of my office for many years.   "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul."
