Got My Letter...but...

I got my letter in the mail but now I have another issue. How do I arrange an appointment with an endocrinologist? I called the one I want to see(Trans friendly) and they said I need a referral before I can setup an appointment. Now where am I suppose to get that from? Do I just show another doctor my letter and say this is the person I want to see?

I'm trying to understand your post. You say you received your letter in the mail. Is that your referral letter? If so you can show it to the endocrinologist and get started. You must receive the letter from a psychologist or social worker, preferable one who specializes in gender issues, thus a gender therapist. I'm guessing the process in Canada is like the US.

I want to add that usually the gender therapist sends the letter directly to the endocrinologist. You might ask the GT to do so. That way the Endo won't suspect the letter is forged.

The endocrinologist is referring to needing a referal from your primary doctor. That is usually related to the endo getting paid by insurance or not. Some health plans will not allow you to see a specialist unless your primary doctor has determined that you need to see a specialist, it probably has nothing to do with HRT. Do you have a primary doctor? Ask his office for a referal to the endo you chose.

your therapist may have to call or write directly to the the endo you want to see, thats how it went . with my original endo visit ,im pretty sure thats what they mean .

Canada is not the same as the US. You need a letter of recommendation from a GT (what you got in the mail) and you also need a referral from a general practitioner or a clinic. If you already have a GP, just go show them the letter and tell them who you want to see and they will call the endocrinologist and book you an appointment. If you don't have a GP, just pick the nearest walk-in clinic and same deal, show them the letter and tell them who you want to see. You can't book your own first appointment with ANY specialist in Canada. You always need a referral from a GP or clinic.
