Hey Matt,

I will probably start T just before an important recital I have to give at university. This is why I am so concerned about stiffness in my hands. The staff here are very supportive of me though, and will make allowances if I experience problems with my hands during this time, I can probably ask the recital to be put off until the stiffness passes. I just wanted to make sure it would. Thanks, you've put my mind at rest. :)

Can I also ask? When you gain weight from the T do you look bigger? Or is it just weight in terms of the scales? Because I know that muscle weighs more than fat. So therefore you could actually look slimmer, but have also gained weight. Is this right?

Another thing I am thinking about in terms of the T is my clothes. I guess this is to do with the weight issue. I'm a poor student, and really need some new clothes at the moment, but am trying to put this off. I can't afford to buy new things now, and then have to buy more new things once I start T because of the change in my body shape. At the moment I'm 5"11, 15 and a half stone. My waist is 42inch, chest the same. I'm guessing this will change.

So my question is how drastic were the changes in your size before and after the T? And how quickly did the changes occur?

Thanks

Sergei

Sergei,

It will take up to a few months for the T to suppress estrogene and take over as the dominate hormone. So I wouldn't worry too much about stiffness effecting your hands right away if at all.

Muscle, as you said, weighs more so that accounts for much of the gain in weight. If you have little muscle mass now, its common for the shoulders to become wider over a years time. Body fat can also redistribute into a male pattern over a year or two. The end results for of many of us is that we look slimmer while weighing more. My pant size went down about 4 months on T and and my shirt size went up from a medium to a large after 6 months.

Hey, Matthew... I've got a couple of questions myself.

How did you take T? Was it through shots? If it was, did it mess up your uterus and ovaries any? The reason I ask is 'cause of my PCOS. If shots are more likely to mess with it ('cause it's more T all at once as opposed to less T spread out) then my risk of cancer goes through the proverbial roof.

'Nother question is, did the T do anything to your facial structure? I would think it would redistribute fat, but if one is still undergoing puberty would it be possible that it might slightly masculinize the facial bones? My face is really fem and it would straw inhaler if it kept me from passing effectively (especially since most pics of you are gonna feature your face). I already have faint facial hair patterns and stuff, so I'm not worried about that... it's just my face is all soft and round, it has none of the angularity of a man's face.

I inject T twice a month. It is an intramuscular injection, so its slowing absorbed into my system over 10 to 14 days. According to my doctor, my uterus has shrunk to the size of a walnut over the last three years. I never felt any internal changes at all.

It has changed my bone structure. My jawline, chin and forehead have become more pronounced and my jaw line is squared off instead of a gentle curve. I have less fat on my face and my hair line changed to a male pattern.

Hi Matt:

My uterus has shrunk to the size of a walnut.

Jeez, I never thought of that one. MTF's on hormones experience prostate and testicular atrophy.

The point is, all this hormone stuff is not to be taken lightly. It will make permanent changes in your body.

It's not recommended for experimentation, especially if you ever think you might want to have children.

Hey Matt,

Thanks for taking questions!

My questions are:

1) Can you grow any taller from T (or is there anyway at all to get taller)?

2) If you can get bottom surgery, and if you perform sexual activity, can you still get orgasm or at least have a normal sex like a bio male would?

Thanks!

Hi Aubrey,

Growing taller is only possible if growth plates in the bones haven't fused, so its unlikely that you will grow. Finding shoes that add two or three inches is how most of us vertically challenged guys deal with it.

The ability to have an orgasm isn't usually negatively effected by SRS. Normal sex is another issue. The basic surgery to release the clitoris allows for a natural male function but usually isn't longer then two inches. A phalloplasty has a high rate of complications but when successful appears normal for a bio male about 50% of the time. It can't become construct so rods or an implanted pump is needed and most guys have little to no sensation in it. Surgeries for us are still little more then experimental.

Unfortunately, Matt's right about the bottom surgeries, they're garbage for us transmen right now. It's why I'm not really focusing on it. I do hate my genitalia though and sometimes have thoughts about hurting them... but I digress.

Darn. I was hoping I might get a little taller on T. I'm so short (five feet, six inches tall) and it's really hard to be manly when you're tiny.

Wait, you have to have surgery to "release" the clitoris so that it forms a boy thing? Is it optional? (Because, I, personally, don't really want one. I could live with one, but if I could take hormones and not develop one, that would be nice) Would anything happen if you took hormones, but didn't have that particular surgery?

Yep, surgery is optional. Typically hormones enlarge the clitoris in length and girth and it becomes much more sensitive. It takes surgery to clip the tendon thats holding it down and another procedure to re-route the urethra and close the lower side to allow for urinating standing up.

I have a few...

1. How deep does your voice after get after you start T (normally)?

2. What happens...down there?

3. What happens to the boobs?

4. How long does it take to get hair and stuff?

5. Does it give you more height, biggers hands, bigger feet, smaller hips, etc.?

Good morning    On this date in 1972 it was a Saturday. I  made a pledge to love and honor my wife and keep her forsaking all others.  I have kept those vows and here we are celebrating our 52nd anniversary still together.  Still caring for each other through sickness and in health.  Still sharing our lives.   Other than that, it’s another day near the beach.  80 and mostly sunny.     I found a ‘17 GMC Acadia yesterday I want to take a look at.  It’s a bit more than I wanted to spend but it’s doable. Only 69k miles on it, with the low mileage I put on cars these days it probably won’t ever hit 100k if I do beget it.  Low mileage now is  likely because it was a leased car at some point. Those usually get pretty good care and not a lot of miles.  It would be similar in size to my Ford, 7 passenger seating but a more basic trim which is fine.  It only has a 4 cyl engine so potentially rather under powered for a relatively large SUV.  The ford has a 4.0liter 6 which is a bit large for cars these days.  Instead of full time all wheel drive, it apparently has 4 modes, 2, 4, sport (what ever that is, I presume it’s over drive turned off) and anti slip.  It’s probably not going to happen but I am keeping my eyes open for a good deal. The old Ford is just that, an old worn out Ford.  Since I bought the Ford I’ve only put about 10k miles on it in 6 years.  My daughter once had an Acadia, top trim package.  When she was driving back and forth to work close to 100 miles per day and going to Philadelphia every week another 500 or more.  For her the miles added up fast.   still keeping my eyes open.  This is about the right age and size but I was hoping to spend about $2000 less.   Other than that I hope to meet with my minister today about paper topics for my class submission.   Other than that Monday is laundry day so I’ll be doing several loads of laundry today.     I put on a neutral gel nail polish last night.  I tried this before, however, I don’t believe I correctly understood the how to get a good result so I was more careful this time.  All I want it’s to give my bpfinger nails enough strength to grow out just a little and stop tearing.   Well, I need to call to make an urology appointment.   @Birdiei was born in Ohio and until Lamda Legal sued them you could not get a sex change on a birth certificate for any reason.  Now you can.  In South Carolina a name change requires $300 and a form filled out and filed with the clerk of courts.  But a gender change requires a birth certificate with the new gender listed.  I am hoping they will permit gender X eventually but right now the state is too Red to do any such thing.   Willow

I have the problem, that I see myself at 3 maybe 4 on the list. I don't have the self love that I should have.   What does it mean to you?   Kymmie

Seems the stuffy day-centre has swapped out Psychiatric Services and therapy to the local BSA hospital. BSA works closely with the local university and is much more gender accepting than the day-centre. The day-centre's psychiatrist wanted to treat me for gender dysphoria by correcting it. 🙄   I logged into MyChart app at the hospital and updated my preferred name (Birdie) and preferred gender marker for them to use.  I'll try and get a referral for gender therapy at the hospital as well.    Nevada is my place of birth and I found out changing the gender marker on my birth certificate there only requires a letter from a licensed therapist, but a name change still requires a court order.    Changing the gender marker to female would at least be one step in the right direction, then I could renew my ID to state female instead.

Well today by attention wise was downright horrible. My legs can't stay still, can't focus on a project, my mind wanders around a lot, constantly fidgeting, easily distracted, couldn't even tell you what the sermon was about but there was vine on the altar and attention to detail sucks. I have read that it is possible to have BPD and ADHD. My mind even wanders during prayer. If I have both I won't be able to take Adderall because it makes my BPD symptoms worse. I keep having side effects that come up from my 3 traumatic brain injuries.

If it wasn't so *EVIL*, I would have to laugh.  Everyone knows that trans women in particular have such an overwhelming superiority in poetry that the competition would be unfair if they were allowed to enter.  You can't make this stuff up!   Seriously, sorry for making light of it.  But it is only by highlighting the utter absurdity of this kind of crap, whether it occurs in Russia or Florida, that I am able to hang on to any shred of sanity.

I used to fully agree with this statement, that is, until the first lockdown   Everyone I knew around me was affected by the pandemic. they couldn't work. they couldn't see their friends. they felt bored/ frustrated they couldn't get out of the house   and then there was me who welcomed it, because for once in my life, I didn't feel like a loser- and after lockdown, when everyone looked forward to going back to work or going out, well.. I had nothing- and I felt that no, I wasn't normal because I didn't have a life to get back to
