The Wet Season Is Near! Yay!

Well, the build-up to the wet season is near, with some forecast models going for the first storms around late September.

SOI (Southern Oscullation Index) statistics indicate a high probability of Neautral conditions for the upcoming season which generally expects near average rainfall patterns. With many more opportunities, a new SLR camera and equipment, this season is expected to be a cracker! Main areas of focus with chasing will include Kakadu national Park, Katherine, Tiwi Islands and Darwin Areas.

Here is some preview pictures of what to expect this coming season, I wish I had my SLR for these shots!

These piccies were taken on my old point-&-shoot camera..

OMG! Those pics are just awesome! You are truly talented and quick on the shutter, too!

All I can say is WOW and bite my lip because the way you captured the lightning comming out of the darkness (must be a poem there somewhere). How many shots did you have to shoot to get the lightning as you did? And don't tell me 5...lol. You rock and beautifuly done, girl.

Peace

Thank you for the comments! :D

Most of the attempts I take capture lightning, but some are deleted as they are off screen or dull, lol.

Day time shots are essestially achieved by reflexes, the night time shots are much easier, where a slow shutter speed can be used.

My new DSLR Nikon D60 takes very stunning shots! With this camera on a tripod, I am able to use a bulb settings with a remote trigger.

Shutter speeds on 'bulb' can last up to one hour, with timed preset speeds down to 30 seconds.

F-stop (apparture) ranges from f3.5 - f34 with my 18-55mm lens, very versatile :)

I am soon going to get Adobe PS Elements (image editor) for my photography too ;)

Hi Raydub :)

Don't worry, I feel dorky and ditzy much of the time! Curse those blonde moments!! lolz

I have always been passionate about storm and landscape photography, When I chase, it is like I feel this strong 'spiritual' connection with the weather, it is such a devine feeling to capture mother natures emotions and power on camera.. when I capture a 'perfect bolt' I get what I call 'Stormgasms' hehe

One day I hope to make a living doing this, I would love to eventually travel abroad and see much of the states, especially SW Florida, as the climate and lightning activity is very similar to here. :)

Here is some of the recent activity hinting the long waited arrival of the build-up to the wet..

Its no 'mighty thor' but the cloud structure was pretty neat :)

More of a 'shower chase' that a storm chase. lol :D

It is a real traet to see any kind of precip or cloud structure during the normally boring clear days of the dry season.

Those pictures are gorgeous. Are you a professional photographer? If not, then I would consider it! You make the storms look so beautiful and mystical.

Thank you! :)

I'd love to think that I'm a professional, maybe one day. I'm more of a passionate ametuer at the moment :)

I am in the process of learning and mastering the all important techniques and skills of 'Post-processing' my images properly with my new Adobe Photoshop and HDR software ;)

Photos which have been processed and tweaked perfectly are what we see by the Pros in shops, they sell for big $$$$ :)

I'm going to push the extra mile this year and try for some combination landscape/stormscape pics and panoramas, Kakadu wetlands and Katherine Gorge would make some stunning locations for this! :D

Oh it is gorgeous. You should send it into their website, maybe they will use it on the site or in brochures to get your name out there as a photographer!

Here is a fantastic short video I found of my back yard during summer, this is a video made by 'Rooeytoo' on youtube...

This shows you just how dramatic and intense our regular natural pyrotechnic displays are..

I went out to take some pics a of the Fog near my place this morning in the early hours...

Made some nice pics, It had a kind of eerie 'Stephen King' look about it. :)

Those are really cool pictures...very eerie! Neat stuff. Fog is creepy. Every now and then we will get that weird "cling to the ground" fog in places. I'll have to snap a picture next time it happens. I'm a minimalist photographer...point...click. :P

We've had some great storms over the past week around my neck of the woods. I enjoyed sitting out in my back yard watching some pretty awesome lightning in the distance. Good stuff!

Oh yeah! Florida can have some good storms! Even here in NW Florida we can get some good ones. They roll in all of a sudden, they wreck shop for a bit, then they roll back out. Indeed! It IS magic!

Technically, it's before noon ;)   Uneventful day so far. I have my personal devices limited to 15 mins of screen time a day because I had a C lol, only problem really is the fact I do a lot of my social interaction online because most of my friends are in another state... been a little lonely, I guess? Plus I do a lot of reading and such online, and use my phone for references to draw, so there's a lot I don't have access to. So, just an annoyance now.   Anyways, fixed the C, hopefully I'll have normal things again soon ^-^   My mom's been having me take this herb pill in the mornings that is supposed to help with anxiety/ADHD-type symptoms, but I still have been having about the same amount of trouble focusing and sensory issues, so I guess it's not working haha

Claire shares the same first letter as my male name.  I tend to prefer shorter names to long ones, and this one seemed feminine to me without going overboard. I was inspired by Claire Danes, Claire Underwood, and Claire Dunphy (upon whom I always had an enormous crush ).  Plus, it just felt right. I don't know if Claire will be my final legal name, but it's stuck longer than the others I've tried on.

I always loved Ashley. I named my 2006 Roush Mustang that too. I also had a crush to Ashley Force who races in NHRA.

I'm the same (estradiol, no blockers) and for me, after 4 years, T levels naturally *decreased*. I'm at E&T levels of a postmenopausal woman.   Astrid

Revealed: the super-rich fascist Maga lobbying group who is brain-washing the far-right policies of Trump and other Republicans.   Documents show the Conservative Partnership Institute is pushing its far-right agenda at events involving GOP members. A powerful, right-wing lobbying group is promoting a hard-right policy agenda and cementing ties between the Republican party and the far right at at least 21 events involving senators, members of Congress, and both junior and senior political aides. The documents offer previously unreported details of Conservative Partnership Institute (CPI). In 2021, the former congressman and Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows joined CPI. Both Meadows and Mitchell were at the center of Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Meadows was indicted in Georgia in August.    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/may/23/conservative-partnership-institute-republican-laws

As a side question, when you start E (I'm only doing E. no blockers), does T fight back? (Insert "Empire Strikes Back" theme music here, lol)   For awhile, things downstairs seemed very subdued. This week, not so much. Kind of like back to pre-E days. Just curious.   Did labs yesterday so that should tell me something when I get results...

Had a very nice day yesterday.  It was certainly worth the drive.   Something interesting to me.  We went out to a restaurant after the regular meeting.  After the meal we were getting ready to leave.  I had an hour and a half drive ahead of me, and had drunk a good bit of tea.  I'm kinda careful where I use a restroom, and this place was full of people.  I asked one of the other girls (who all live there) if I might get in trouble.  (They all know where I live)  She just looked at me and said "This is Asheville."   I realized how nice it is to live in a place where you are not always looking over your shoulder, wondering if something is going to happen. It was a good day.
