Asking For My Surgery Letter

By mutual agreement my therapist and I agreed that I would only

come to her when I felt I had a need any more.It was about this

time last year when I last visited with her and told her of my

desire to get my letter of surgical readiness at that time.Ahhh,

but Dr Sally covers all the bases before she agrees to writing

any letters.I had health issues I had to meet head on before she

would approve me.And so a year later,I am sitting in her office

once again making my request.This time I am healthy and clear of

any issues.

Turns out she had a fight of her own she had to face in the interim.

She had/has(we are considered cancer patients for five years following

a prognosis of all clear)breast cancer and had a radical mastectomy,

(which is having both breasts removed) and then breast reconstruction

so she can have a natural shape.We hugged in mutual support when we saw

each other,one survivor to the next.And then I spent the next 50 minutes

talking her ear off.

Point blank asked for my letter.And once again I had to tell her my plans

of how I will pay for my surgery,the name of my chosen surgeon,reassure

her that both my oncologists will be told,that I have a doctor for my after care,that I have good support once I am back home(I do)..Then and only then did she agree to write my long awaited and much anticipated letter of surgical readiness.She smiled at me and told me she's waited for this moment for a long

time and wants to take her time and get it just right.I agreed totally. She

offered to fax it to me,but I would rather pay her fee and get the original

handed to me by her,see that wonderful smile,woman to woman.
