First Laser Session!

ok, I'm not really crazy about laser, most of my facial hair is not that dark. I've been on HRT 3 weeks and it has knocked out a lot of the hair on my cheeks and my legs. The hair on my neck and lower face hasn't changed much, it's just growing a little slower.

Anyways my doctor does laser hair removal with a Cutera machine on Fridays. I want to do a few sessions on my neck because I can only shave there once, maybe twice a week otherwise it just tears me up. Really I would prefer to start with Electrolysis because I don't think laser is going to do much for me, but most of my darker hair is on my neck so I'm hoping a few sessions there will help. I also have not been able to find a trustworthy electrolysist within an hour of where I live. South Carolina is a black whole.

Right now the plan is to do 5 sessions on my beard which will cover my neck and jaw bone area. The good thing is that if I'm unhappy with the progress on my face I can put the payment from the left over sessions on removal in another area. I certainly have darker hair on my legs and lower stomach so I will probably have laser on those areas later to remove the dark stuff and won't worry about the rest.

I have my first session in 2 weeks, what does everyone think? Honestly I think more than 3 sessions on my face will be a waste.

People have such varied results I would suggest doing a test area or so and see how it works out for you.

Keep us updated?

Thanks

I've had like 4 or 5 sessions on my face. I've been avoiding the sun like the plague and my hair's dark, so it's working pretty well.

I definitely didn't see results after the first session, but now my face feels totally "baby-bum" smooth for a few days w/o a razor :) and 99% of my hair now is the tiny, thin, white ones now (which women have anyway)

did you consult with the laser-stician person yet? the lady I see helped me decide before I started.

Yes, it's a small practice and my doctor is also the one who does the laser, she said my skin tone is favorable but the pigment color of my hair is not. The hair on my jawbone when it is grown out is red and on my neck it is brown/black. What is left on the rest of my face is blond. I don't think it will be possable to clear my face with laser. She advised doing 7 sessions splitting up the payments over the next three months. I really didn't want to try any more than 3 on my face.

I would be happy to do 7 and then use the remaining sessions on another area of my body once I started seeing diminishing returns but I would rather spend the remainder to get some electrolysis on my face, even if I have to travel an hour away to do it. Nobody has to see my legs or stomach at work and it would be really nice to be full time at work in 6 months.

I started with electrolysis, as I figured it was just a "reduction". Surprisingly the person I went to for electrolysis suggested that I get some laser sessions in to help speed up the process. It made it easier for her to remove the hairs and also use a lower setting so my skin doesn't get as irritated, even the ones that the laser doesn't work well on. I think part of it was that I am, er was one of those lucky people who could shave and 10 minutes later look like I didn't. So it is helpful for me. From what I understand its not just the hair color, but the contrast between the hair and the skin. For me it was a good choice as I have relatively light colored skin and dark facial hair. One of the nice things too is after a week or so the hair falls out and you don't have to shave for a while. It then grows back after a few weeks and that is when you go in for another session. Of course everyone is different. I hope that helps.

Love,

Lena
