Men's Vs. Women's Hair Coloring

My natural hair is light gray, and of course my wig is dark brown. I wanted to match the colors so the wig would better blend with my hair.

I have tried Touch of Gray and Just for Men, with completely unsatisfactory results. Touch of Gray was more like "Touch of Brown" as far as how dark it got my hair. Just for Men ended up being "Just a Waste of Time." <_< It left lots of gray, especially around the temples and the back. Money down the drain, literally.

So I decided to try women's hair coloring. What could it hurt, right? My wife recommended L'Oreal Superior Preference as being relatively easy to apply, with good color choices and fairly long lasting (4-6 weeks, she told me).

I tried it this morning, and (drum roll)...............OMG, it's GREAT! It completely covered my hair without coloring my scalp, its a deep and shiny shade of brown, and it left my hair feeling very silky. I still don't have much up there, but what's there now makes me look 20 years younger even without the wig. I am very confident that the wig and my natural hair will blend together very well. It does take about 25-30 minutes to mix and apply, and you need to use their conditioner twice a week for 2-3 weeks to keep the color nice, but it isn't too complicated. The instructions do mentioned exploding bottles if you mess things up (yay, just like high school chemistry!). Oh, it does smell really bad, so have some ventilation.

My only disappointment is that I had hoped the treatment would make me look like the model on the box. It didn't. False advertising, as far as I'm concerned. :P

Since my natural color had everything from silvery pale blond to red mixed in streaks and streaks weren't fashionable till recently I colored it for decades. And no bottles ever exploded-but if you leave them in the trash they do burble out and fill up the house with that yummy ammonia smell.

I really liked L'Oreal but Feria is my favorite because it came out more multi-toned but that may be a blond thing. I do know that saving money on hair color doesn't. In this case you get what you pay for. I tried the customs from the beauty supply but had better luck with L'Oreal and Feria.

I'm glad you mentioned the men's hair color not working-I want to go back to blond rather than white with blond streaks and will stay with Feria now.

Fantastic that you like the color and that it turned out so well!

And I like you much better than that model on the box. She may be nice to take a picture of but you are nice to know and it shows!

Love & Hugs

I've been coloring mine for a couple of years. Ok, it's a vanity thing and I was chasing the gray away. I have about 7 different wigs which all have my golden blond color and various other colors in them as well. That way if my hair shows, it's not really noticeable.

The 4-6 week thing is largely due to the fact that your roots will be showing. If you wash your hair daily, that will have an effect on how long between coloring as well. It eventually will wash out. You might want to try a shampoo specifically for treated hair in order to minimize the washing out effect. My rule of thumb is if it doesn't feel oily and my curls aren't misbehaving too badly, I don't wash it. But due to the nature of my hair I have to wash it at least every other day.

And JJ's right. You get what youu pay for in hair coloring products. If you try to save money and buy the cheaper stuff you might as well buy 2 of them. Because they're going to wash out in half the time and really, they just don't look as nice.

I've been coloring my hair since last summer just after I realized I was trans. I was coloring it a golden blonde, but now I'm coloring it even more blonde. Even though I grew up with brown hair and brown eyes (hazel now), I've always wanted to be a blonde. I added highlights to the hair and even after coloring my hair again for a couple times, my highlights stayed. :)

I don't do my own coloring, but go to a beauty school, and they have done a wonderful job. Plus it only costs $25 for hair my length. They also style the hair for no extra charge.

Tension is not a well-understood psychological state. It can be both positive and negative, much like stress itself. A 2015 research paper on the theoretical framework of tension notes it's an anticipatory emotional state which tends to be associated with: conflict.

I'd love to have a dinner party with Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Voltaire, and Ayn Rand.  Would definitely be an interesting time.

In the forward I learn that transgenderism is bad, and somewhere else that transgender ideology is bad.  I have not yet read a definition of either in the document.  I assume they are the same.  I know Focus on a Family has a definition of transgenderism on their website, or did, but I am not sure this is the same as that.  I might agree that transgenderism is bad if they use a definition I condemn (e.g. transgenderism means you always pour ketchup in your shoes before you put them on - I could not agree to that).  Is someone who believes in transgenderism, whatever it is, a transgenderist? I never see that term.  There may be other definitions out there, but I don't think there is an Official Definition that we all agree to.

Crazy fact, was gonna go to the school where this went down at before I moved, have a lot of friends there. I know at least one of my friends met the guy on one occasion, not knowing who it was.

They are thinking of Loudon.  The problem there was the girls were not protected from a known predator, who was moved from one school to another instead being effectively disciplined.  Outlaw school administrators? <sarc>

How ironic.  I agree with the governor "“You cannot change your gender; you cannot pick your gender…there is a confused group of people that somehow think you can,”    - we are what we are, we are fighting the fact we CANNOT change our gender, which we did not pick.  Many if not all of us would not have picked a trans condition and have sought to evade, deny or move out or resolve it anyway we can.  Those who are confused on this issue are not trans folk.  They want us to change our gender but they deny we can.  Confusion.

@FinnyFinsterHH no one can satisfy your questions about what will the future hold. But I can advise you to slow your mind down as much as you're able. Take it slow and one moment at a time. This advice goes beyond the practical reality that that's truly all you can do - further, try to enjoy each moment. It's clear you have a lot of aspirations regarding transition. But it's best to try to accept the bounds of your life circumstances at present because if you develop worries or even resentments about them, that will only make you bitter and more anxious. Instead, try to focus on anything you find affirming. Practice positive self-talk and give yourself affirmations too. Try to let go of expectations of your family members - they can only deal with change to the capacity they're able due to their own life conditions. Allow them grace as you wish they would allow you. Practice patience.   Try this exercise - read through your post and make one list of the positive developments and another of things you cannot control (including the future). If you have a sense of spirituality, offer the second list as a sacrifice to however you understand a higher power - leave it in their hands. If you're not spiritual, then offer it up to hope. Then throw that list away. Keep the list of positives and leave some room on it because guaranteed you'll have more and more to add. Look forward to that, but don't let your mind think it can rush things. Try to enjoy the ride.
