Hair

Am I the only one who hates short hair? I've always had long hair, except as a kid, when I wished I did. For the past 15 years my hair has been long. Of course, in girl mode, I dyed it.

I cut it off at the beginning of my transition, and at first I liked it. I went shorter and shorter. My last 3 cuts used the clippers on the backs and sides, with more on top to spike if I want. I do like it. But at the same time, since I'm not yet passing, and I'm not sure I like how it makes me look.

OTOH, I recently went to a festival and had ample time to people watch. Yes, most men had short hair, but what got my attention were the guys who had long hair yet were well groomed. That's what I want!

My friend, who I'm out to, says I'll look like an aging hipster and look ridiculous. But then, I've never cared what people thought, and heck, I'm transitioning, which many people will find creepy. Why can't I just have hair that I want? It will take a year to grow it where I want it (it's pretty buzzed at the moment), and by then T will be in effect and I won't look girly, but like a guy with long hair.

My stylist says NO!! Her husband is FTM and looks great with a buzz. But then he has a nice beard also.

Maybe when I pass 100% my hair won't bug me so much. But right now (and it's been 4 months since I cut it!!) I'm not liking it anymore.

Thoughts?

You know, a lot of the FTM's around here are into the buzz thing. I'm not talking short on the sides and spiky on top. I'm talking buzzed in the military, boot camp style. The look really works for some guys, but not so much for others. I'm one of those "others" that it totally wouldn't work for. I am afraid I have one of those "lumpy first-born child" heads, as this one guy put it. The "wash and go" simplicity of it all is attractive, but I have a round baby face. I don't think buzz cuts work for the round baby face crowd so well.

I'm in to long hair for guys too. I don't like the idea of looking too "clean cut". My style is a bit more scruffy hippie, but that might not be you. The "long hair but well groomed" look is a good one too. Can you think of any celebrities that have cuts similar to what you are going for? I know the look I want, but I am having a really hard time finding a good picture to take to the hairdresser.

My plan is to go and get my hair cut just a bit shorter than it is. What I'm doing is a little bit of that "mop do". I like having my long emo bangs. When I get mine done either tomorrow or Monday, I'll have to post pics.

I like wearing my hair long and did for a few years post-transition. The problem is that I get mistaken for a girl more often that way, especially when seen from the back or sides. Luckily, I finally found a few short hair styles I like.

Jay,

Sorry youre feelin down about your hair man.

Like you said..when the T kicks in things might be different. I think its hard to tell right now.

Try not to be too bummed about though yeah?

Youve seen my pics ( i think ).. Im of the long-haired variety. It can work if you work it.

Sucks waiting for it to grow though im sure.

Take care dude.

Wishing you comfort and calm.

I went out today all scummy, cuz I have to work later and I figure why shower twice?? So I threw on a ball cap, yesterday's shorts and tee shirt, and ran my errands. At target, I got ma'am'd at the register. GRRR! Even though my voice has dropped, apparently not low enough not to be mistaken for a lady smoker. At the grocery store, I got Hon.

Blech!

If I had long hair I could blame it on that, LOL. My son has long hair and gets called a girl a LOT. He rolls his eyes because he thinks they're dumb; he's a skater (skateboarder), wears a hat with a skull on it, cargo shorts and skate shoes.

No offense to any dykes, but that's what I look like, and I'm not. If I could pull off that tough butch a small levee don't-mess-with-me look I wouldn't mind so much. But I can't.

Bleh.

OTOH I've heard that T's effects go faster once the dreaded ovaries are missing, so at least I cling to that hope that in a few weeks time, those dreaded parts will be gone so T can work its magic!!

It's hard pre-T. You can't really have the style you want, you have to go with what looks "male" because hair is such an major issue in terms of indicating gender. When I was 15 I had the really short clipped hair. I liked it. But then when I was about 18 I grew it back really long for 2 years in an attempt to look feminine. It didn't work, and I just looked androgenous, and people were more confused than ever about my gender. Last year when I came out as male I started clipping it really short again. At first I was a bit upset, I'd gotten quite attached to it. But after I did it I realised I liked it short better. So much easier! I think though after T you can have whatever style you want. Just be patient, and also remember. Hair grows back. You can always grow your hair as long as you like later on. This is just temporary. x

You should definately at least try seeing what you look like when you have that hair style, and to be fair your hair should be your own choice.

Hmmm. I don't really have a stance. I see both views.

I started cutting mine in a bald fade -which means I have brushable dust- like 8 years ago. HOWEVER at times (cuz it gets boring) I've considered growing it out and doin something else with it. Mind you, I started dressing male back when you could still do the long-haired Miami Vice thing. HOWEVER very recently I was at the barber shop and a cisdude who had grown his out and wore it as cornrows had finally decided to get his shaved and when they unbraided it he looked like anybody's daughter. That really made me reconsider lol. So I don't have any opinion just some thoughts.

I really want long hair again (I chopped it all off 2 1/2 years ago when I started transitioning), but I'm going to wait at least another year to grow it out, since I've only been on T since this March. I can't go with the buzz-cut look either at the moment, because I have the round baby face. So right now I've got fringe to just past my ears, and I sort of like it.

Do I ever feel? There isn't a single minute that goes by that I feel that way. I have such a strong hate for what I have that there isn't a word out there for it.

I already tried that. Either too old like 60's and 70's or married. Not many people who would want to date a trans woman in dead red Mississippi. Maybe once things calm down just get a Mustang GT and just give up on it. Both are going to bring joy and pain. At least I could learn and share my love of cars with my kids when they get that old. I wouldn't even know what to do if someone said they wanted me. I would've already been thinking in my mind they are just going to ghost me so what's the point. I just don't know what to do anymore. I tried putting myself out there online and out in person. I haven't tried a bar yet although that's probably a bad idea. Maybe just to experience it again. I haven't been to one since 2013. The only problem I see is I'm not a night owl for sure. I go to bed at 8-830. My expectations were just that I wouldn't get rejected last. I have been able to handle a good bit of it but this one really hurt. I guess that's what happens when you have some hopes and expectations. It's not like I have another friend IRL to talk about this. She is my only one. I wished I didn't put myself out there.

As one who had to deal with the Porn/Adult Entertainment business as commercial, taxpaying businesses on a professional level, I can say that they are in it for money and the highest percentage of their income comes from ultra conservative areas where adequate Medical and Mental Health Profession and University Science instruction on Trans issues are banned.    It makes me wonder how much porn literature is hidden behind the 13 Bibles and Bible Study guides on some people's family bookshelves.

Do you ever feel trapped in a body that doesn't feel like yours?

There's the old thing of getting out and getting involved in things in the community and meeting people that way. Does your church have a food pantry? Does it have service opportunities you could plug into otherwise? You might run into someone that way.
    • Ashley0616
Well that didn't go well. She said she is intentionally single. When will I just stop thinking about putting myself out there. It really hurt but rejection and getting ghosted is just my second language apparently. The one person I have told all my dark secrets and didn't run off. At least we are friends. I'm happy only when I'm sleeping and that is it because things actually go my way from time to time. Just another wonderful day of me. SMDH!

In their minds, yes, unless it is clearly, consistently, forcefully articulated by those who represent trans people that we are not.  I'm not sure who that would be.

So, this proves that we're all  pedophiles? I suspect that the majority of pedophiles are probably cis.   Yeah, Alexander the Great was probably queer.  What does this have to do with me needing to pee?   I am so tired of this ___.  I raised 8 kids and never molested any of them - unless you count changing diapers without closing my eyes.  Yeah… so tired.   It makes me wonder what is actually on these people's minds.

Whew! I don't think I want to see that age unless I can still function normally although my family hasn't gotten to live that long. The oldest lived to see 80.
