Hair Regrowth, February to October 2011

Hi all,

I thought I'd share a pic showing the progress of my hair's regrowth. I'd started using minodixil in July 2010, then added Nizoral Shampoo into the mix shortly thereafter. By mid-November, I'd started HRT, so by February 2011, the date of the image on the right below was taken, I'd started getting some limited regrowth. The image on the left shows the regrowth from then until now. I did dye my hair darker, but actually I think the increase in visual contrast from that makes the remaining baldness rather prominent; not good in and of itself, but it does give a more accurate indicator of the growth.

My HRT regimen includes Spironolactone, Finasteride, Estradiol, and (cycled) Prometrium. Don't ask dosages, I won't tell!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to doing this every few months, and looking forward to seeing how it looks two years from now.

Finasteride can really do a nice job! I started on it about 2 months ago as I'm a little thin on top and wanted to fill it in. So the doc put on that and told me to use Rogaine cream (not too faithful about doing that). I have new 1" long hairs popping up all over my scalp. Congratulations on your progress!

The new little hairs are annoying! I have to part my hair way over to one side so the weight of the long ones will hold the short ones down. But these days I only wear the wigs for parties, at which the hostess demands a certain standard of presentation. Anywhere else, it's the real me!

Thank you for sharing your results :) It's very encouraging to see that these treatments can and do work!

Do you feel you would have had any improvement with just HRT alone?

Some, surely. I wish I had a really good shot of me from the back from just before transition. I was really afraid I'd need hair implants. But I do think the minoxidil has made the different. Two more years I'm guessing, and I'll have a good idea of the full extent of regrowth.

I'm afraid of using the rogaine, I was using the foam and the residue it left in the hair really bothered me a lot. So much that I just quit using it altogether. Although I'm on the same regimen of drugs as you minus the prometrium. I have had so much hair regrowth it doesn't bother me that much wearing my hair pulled back or down on the sides and pulled back on the top such as in some of my pictures.

What hasn't grown back by next summer I will probably have transplanted by way of my own donor hair as a last ditch effort to spur a little more thickness but over all I'm very happy I was practically bald on top of my head when I started HRT 11 months ago.

I wish you the best with your continued results!

I have to thank the original poster and commenters on this topic, noticed (read as...first time I dared to look) this morning where my hair had been thinning, it's not really bad but it's noticeable to me, so got a bit depressed... came on here wondering if it was possible any regrowth could happen! Just glad to know that in a year or so it may begin to regrow once hormones start and cover over that area. Love this site. :)

@LittleSamCongratulations on one of the biggest decisions. Looking forward to your progress.

I don't wear a bra to bed.  The girls aren't big enough to need it, but still enough to appreciate.  Just a flannel nightgown suits me fine.

You're welcome. I'm here quite often if you need me.

Yeah, that is the point.  And of course they can be proud of themselves for saving humanity.   Yeah.  That would be scary.  I'd find a bush somewhere like our GOP governor candidate recommends.  So far I've gotten away with the women's.  I've been told I pass better than I realize.  But it would only take one a55h0le.   This is all so stupid.  I mean, who gets off on hanging out in a bathroom?

Oh yes. It was not fun cleaning it up but he is better.

As I read this one, it is only for school bathrooms.  I hope he has signed a bill to triple the number of "security monitors" on the campuses and up their pay considerably, not to mention some other costly stuff.  Only way is for every school employee, to know the birth certificate information of each student by memory which will require 3 additional months of salary for them all.  It appears the enforcement relies on parental reports obtained from their children which opens so much up.  The kids will end up ALL with wet or soiled underwear while the parents go at each other with weapons over "family honor" over false calls based on childish name calling.

I agree. This law is impractical and impossible to evenly enforce without such ridiculous measures in place. What it will do is stigmatize the trans community in Oklahoma and nothing more but ofc, that’s the only point of it.   If I was in that state and needed a restroom, there’s no chance I’d ever step foot in the men’s restroom because of some law. I know I’m not alone in that thinking. This law won’t stand the test of time.

I asked AI to create an image of myself 30 years younger based off my avatar on another site and this was the result:     Wow! I am amazed how close it got my 30 year old face!

Quite true.  The amusing thing about opposites is how similar they can be.   My family left Greece because of the conflict between the communists and the militarists/fascists.
