Crossdressing in the Digital Realm

Ok...this may sound a little odd... but hey, this a forum for TG,TS&CD, so this is legit thought process.

So crossdressing...commonly done in the privacy of ones own home or out in the real world. But what about the digital domain?

By this I mean any sort of game that uses an Avatar to represent the player to the other players.

ie. XBox Live, World of Warcraft, or even EVE Online.

I've taken to, on regular basis, always choosing a female avatar, even though its supposed to represent the literal gender of the player [XBox Live]. my first instinct is to chose a female. This has actually caught the attention of at least of my real world friends. This friend is unaware of what i do in the privacy of my home, or even what I do online.

When its brought up in other games where you actually play in a 3rd person perception the common answer is "If I'm going to be staring somethings DONKEY for all those hours, it might as well be attractive." That was for the longest time my explanation...yet the XBox situation cannot be excused in that manner.....so does this mean I've basically been cross-dressing in the digital world?

---hmmmm.......

If I have the choice, I'll usually choose a female avatar. I did in 2nd Life, but after the 'leap' I realized that I would have to memorize an awful lot of commands besides trying to stay in character. I was a member for a long time at a site that did a lot of rpg's and besides my main character (for logging on, forums, etc) I would always choose a female role - of course there, no one knew my birth gender. Most people there assumed I was a gg female.

As long as you're considerate of other people, you stay out of situations where there might be repercussions for the gender you choose, you stay consistent, or there are RL involvements, I'd say if you can make it work, I certainly would go for it.

Actually love to do this too... since I cant have a open girl life in the real world why not have a life in the digit world? The digital world has taught me a lot. I use this program called taaz to turn me into a girl and I love it.

I play, when the time allows, Unreal Tournament especially when I need some "Clobbering Time" and I always play as a female avatar and I toyed with 2nd life or something like it a few years back with a female avatar until I got hit on a lot!

This forum totally applies for me. For as long as I can remember I haved been choosing female avatars for online gaming. Since I haven't come out to ANYONE I just say I like perving on a 3D girls but. Lame I know but it does stop the awkward questions. I try to make my avatar look like what I want to look like if I was born a girl. This provides great inspiration for real life crossdressing.

Loved Unreal, you can still play that online?? Wow!

I always always chose a female charactor whatever I am playing. I'm not sure if it's because it's who'd I'd like to be or if it's just that I love women, even if they are in cartoon form lol.

Strange thinking about it, wife never asked why I chose a female!!

I always choose a female character no matter what the game/representation, except for my Xbox Live avatar.

Interestingly enough, I have a friend who always choose a female character as well, and he too has said its because of the attractiveness.

He is like, so manly and jock-like, I think he may be sincere in saying that. Hm.

Is this cyber crossdressing? Not sure.

If you use a female avatar in playstation home, you will soon get pervy guys e-slobbering all over you in a pathetic attempt to find a woman.

That's funny.

Umm...I haven't actually thought about this for 10 years. But, I used to play the Sims way back in the dark ages. I quit because I was getting obsessed and spending too much time. Anyway, back then I hadn't really consciously acknowledged my gender identity, I suppose it was all repressed. But, I used to always pick a female character in the Sims. For some reason it felt right.

And, if you've ever played, you get to a point where your character has to develop a romantic relationship with one of the other (computer AI generated) characters. Well, I didn't feel comfortable with my character making out with a guy, so I'd try to get her to hit on one of the other female characters. (sorry if that sounds bad). It never worked out, the other character always freaked out and left. I suspected the game had some anti-gay feature built into the software.

I have Sims 2 for the PS2. In it, it is actually possible to have lesbian marriage. For some reason, I've never been able to get 2 guys to get together.

I've heard that as being one of the complaints from genetic girls regarding online gaming/etc so they use male characters instead. Well that and how on games like on World Of Warcraft and other like that, the famale characters are made for "sexyness" (the armor for females is joke) whereas the male characters are more real for battle like situations.

It's easily done in Sims 3. Maybe they got complaints about it or something ^_^

Hmmmm.

I think I was playing Sims 1. It was ages ago. So, either they changed the game to allow girls to get together, or I just wasnt very good. I used to woo my female neighbors to the max, and then when I made my move, I'd get a virtual slap in the face every time... :(

I only play female characters, Period. No exceptions.

Except for my level 85 mage in WoW... he was the first character I ever made, back when I was naive and too afraid to roll a female character >.>

Needless to say, I plan on having him 'transition' in due time... (insert evil grin here)

Would be nice if it was possible to select a female character in Call of Duty or Battelfield.

In World War 2, many of the Soviet Union's snipers were women. I wonder what Treyarch have never accomodated that fact in multiplayer.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Second Life. It has a large LGBTQ community and unlike online games is a virtual reality. That is, you can create an avatar not only of any gender but also any shape and dress it with style of clothes you want. There are many places to go and interact with voice (morphing available) or text with others. It is free to join but you do have to state you are 18 to join and prove it with a credit card to enter adult areas. Many LGBTQ areas are not rated adult and are still quite fun.

Ive been going to women's bars in SL for 5 years now. Very satisfying to dance and talk with the sisters even in virtual reality. The most interesting thing about this and other chat areas is that all you can take there and others there can "see"is your brain. What gender is your brain?

One of my girl friends who's on PSN said I should make a female avatar and come hang with her on the PSN Home.

....its like she knows! 0.o

Aside from that, at least 50% of my characters in things like Fallout and Skyrim are female. Since they're both first person, I dont really notice except when theres a particularly nice kill cam and suddenly theres a smoking hot redhead plunging a dagger into a troll! ^.^

For years I've been fascinated by Second Life, but seems that you need to have a pretty powerful computer and really fast internet to make it worthwhile. Is that true?

Most computers made in the last 5 yeas will run it and a DSL or Cable work well. Better computers and speed do make the graphics and movements better but if you get in a crowded place like a women's bar the lag makes it look the same as a slower computer. When you load and run the SL viewer for the first time it will tell you if you have enough computer. There is a learning curve to the viewer but, work thru it for the reward is to be able to present yourself in a virtual world EXACTLY as you see yourself in your minds eye. Something few of us can do in Real Life! PS there is a search engine, a bit weird but it does work. Privacy and security? Never had a problem, they are in San Francisco!

It is actually possible to play Fallout in third person view throughout the whole game. Just press the camera change button.

mm but unless you V.A.T.S. everything you are screwed, not to mention the 3rd person animations are really poorly done.

Skyrim kill cams are awesome :D

I've always played female characters, ever since I first started playing games. Definitely something that's kept me going.
