Hair??

okay, so I'm totally not out at all to anyone who lives near me at all... and won't be like, ever. So far all i've managed to do is buy the guy pants instead of the girl pants for our school uniform... however, I really want to cut my hair short, just for my own peace of mind, etc. I need to do it in at least two-three stages, so it won't seem so shocking, and at the end I want it to look unambiguously male when i'm binding, but pretty androgynous when I'm not. I have like DD or w/e so I don't need any help in making myself look female, but I want something that won't cause way too much suspicion.

So, I got a haircut today because I had to take my senior picture and wear girl clothes and makeup (which is pretty much why I look peed off in the pictures... this is after I took off the makeup), and here are pictures of the current state of the union (or, my hair).

So I was hoping people might be able to help with what I should do in between and what the final should look like.

ideas? suggestions? anything? lol

Well, I'll start off by saying that once you cut your hair, and if you can hide your chest, you will pass INCREDIBLY well. Your face is like, perfect.

I first cut mine short with long bangs that hung in front of my face. (like Peter Petrelli on Heroes) Now it's cut really short; complete guy's cut. I used to have hair than hung all the way past my boobs, it was LONG, and I chopped it all off, ha ha! I got lots of comments, both times, seeing as I went from really long to short to REALLY short.

But guess what? BOTH times everyone was telling me how cute it was, how cute I was; first time I got Posh Spice, second time Audrey Hepburn, from TWO different people! I KNOW I pass, because I've been called a boy god knows how many times by strangers (and my little sisters) after I got the cut. I guess people I know are just in a lot of denial; it doesn't fit in their schema that a girl would have a boy's cut, so they assume it's a girl's. And they fawn over it, I'm not kidding or exaggerating. It was having intercourse annoying. So... I don't know how much you have to worry about, though, of course, it varies with different people. I'm in California and know openly plenty o' bisexual and lesbian people... I think one of my aunts is perceptive enough to suspect me of being a lesbian... She still called it cute.

But every time I pass, it makes me feel special and happy. I can look in the mirror and play around a bit with the style, and am all self-satisfied for the first time in a while. It's awesome.

So, yeah, that's my experience with hair cutting. :D

I think you would look good with a skater haircut guys wear. I don't know what its called but I think you could pass fairly well with it. You could always go shorter from there.

I totally agree. You'll pass so well once your hair is cut! Crazy.

hey thanks guys. I meant to answer earlier... but anyways, I got my hair cut

I didn't really have any style in mind, because I just mentioned one day that I wanted to get my hair cut short, and my dad liked the idea too, then when we were out my brother wanted a haircut so I tagged along.

It was a little too long for my liking, but it was slightly above my shoulders... except my mom didn't really like it, and so she took me to get it 'styled' and the lady took soo much more hair off

so here is the current finished product:

newhairgs1.jpg

from the side it looks worse, but like, it's way better than I was expecting, and I think my parents realize that it makes me look kind of like a boy because my mom is obsessed with me using a whole bunch of gel to make it stick out and stuff lol

I've gotten a lot of "cute haircut" and "I like it" comments from people, but I think they're just being polite because it's really not that great if you're trying to be a girl.

I got "trying to look like a lesbian?" from one of my friends, and I was disappointed because she told me i looked like a boy with the haircut I first posted (she's just weird like that) and I was hoping for another comment like that lol

I doubt that I'll go shorter while i'm still with my parents (who don't know), but you never know lol

and Charlie are you north or south? I'm stuck in republican central

I am personally a fan of hair, so I see no need to go chopping it all off. You can pass just as well with long hair as you can with short hair (With the exception of some gender specific hair styles). It's all in the attitude.

Speaking of hair days…for me, hair has always been the part of my presentation that had the most impact on my overall view of myself. It was much worse for me earlier in my transition. I enjoy experimenting with new hair styles so once in a while, I’ll end up completely redoing my hair because it somehow reminded me of my old self. Self image is a strange yet powerful thing and it take a lot of time and effort to change it.

I am working on a solo music project and I decided a few years ago I wanted to do female lead vocals. I’ve played instrumental music most of my life and sung as a male, mostly backup and harmony though, but very little lead. I never liked my male voice. People always clocked me as female on the phone so I’ve always had a more feminine voice. A little over two years ago I started training my female voice to sing and it has been a lot of fun, though I’m still not where I want to be. Consistency is my biggest challenge.    I try to make practice fun or I don’t stick with it. So I do a lot of singing along with my favorite cover songs…I use a vocal fader, and practice with a microphone, and often just record the blend with my phone to evaluate where I’m at and see what I need to work on. If possible I find karaoke mixes on YouTube where the lead vocal is removed and sing along to that.   I’m not sure I can offer much advice, I just do a lot of listening back and adjusting my technique and practicing until I like how I sound. Just a lot of practice. It will probably take longer than you hope to get where you want to be :) High notes will be challenging but every singer has to build up the muscles and technique and breath support and stretch the vocal chords and then their range will expand. My higher notes are in tune, but often sound strained, probably because they are. Some of that is tensing up in anticipation which I need to train myself out of doing.    I think “trans voice lessons” on YouTube is one of the best channels for tips and theory. Once you’ve found your singing voice and have that relatively consistent, pretty much it’s just working on technique, styling, articulation, range, like any singer would.

I sometimes look too critically when I look in mirrors. If I’m presenting as male, I think I look too feminine. If I am presenting female then I think I look too masculine. It’s very irritating! Sometimes I think I get it down right. I guess everybody has their good and bad hair days and such, though.

https://www.hrc.org/news/reyna-hernandez-latina-trans-woman-salon-owner-and-vibrant-spirit-killed-in-washington-state   This case is unusual, in that the victim was murdered in the U.S. and her body driven all the way to Mexico, presumably to hide evidence and confuse the authorities.    May Reyna rest in peace, and her vicious killer convicted and sentenced to a very long term behind bars.   Carolyn Marie

I cooked a breaded bone-in pork chop (seared in iron skillet then into the oven) an artichoke (w/mayo) and a frozen mac n' cheese that claimed it was "The Best Mac n' Cheese" ... and it was actually pretty good.
