can any regular doctor perscribe them to you or do you have to see a special kind of doctor?

and about how much does it cost per perscription fill? (i only ask because i will have to pay for it myself, since my insurance doesn't cover that kind of perscrption)

thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out with this.

Your primary care physician can prescribe them once he has a letter of recommendation from a gender therapist. As far as cost goes, you might want to check out the WalMart/Walgreens prescription plan. If they have your particular medication on their coverage list, it would only cost $4.00 per filling. (for a 30 day supply)

Your primary care physician can prescribe testosterone. Most require a letter from a therapist, but not all do. Some operate under the informed consent model. I don't remember what my last vial cost me, but it was between $70 and $90. Those last me for quite a few months.

Uh huh. What Martin said :P

But remember there are a LOT of benefits to a therapist not only will they have names of docs very familiar with hrt, but also referals for surgeries when/if the time comes, as well as cues and tips on transitioning at your job and changing your name and such ;)

Well, since we're asking questions about T (sorry to totally steal your thread, mystiktiger) buuuuuut...

Should it HONESTLY matter how much I weigh? Cuz I kinda have a feeling my doctors only saying that so she doesn't give it to me.

T increases chances of hypertension/high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. That said (Seth) there are certain risks that are highly associated with being overweight. Your doctor MAY be being super cautious..but its better to err on the safe side. Im sure its not what you wanted to hear kid, but its all ive got.

love you!

I went to my primary care doctor first and she told me she didn't have the expertise to feel comfortable prescribing me HRT. So I went to a specialist, who needed a T letter, so I got one from my thearapist and had it cosigned by a "gender dysphoria disorder (or whatever bs term it is) specialist, then went back to the specialist, who turned me down on the grounds that I'm 17. So I went to a different specialist who sent me to a lab to get bloodwork and asked a lot of questions about my health history. Then she wrote me the prescription and taught me how to inject. It took two appointments with her total, a space of about a week.
