I have a question about about Estrogel

I've done extensive research on HRT and it's side effect, health risks and benefits specifically on estrofem , spiro and prog . I've studied the certain dosages that people take that are considered safe-er to start with and etc. I am very curious to the effectiveness and what estrogel brings to the table in comparison to estrofem . I do know that it is indeed safer and less taxing to the liver than most oral. Someone told me that they don't even take spiro while taking things but personally I'm not too sure about that . Please help me and educate me on estrogel

ps . I'm 21yo and I recently came out to my family this october

Hello Charissa,

It sounds like you have been doing some research on the issue.

While we do talk about HRT here we can not talk about dosage per the terms and conditions.

The best person to ask these questions is going to be the physician that will be doing your HRT.

The basic treatment that most doctors seem to prescribe is some form of estrogen and some form of anti-androgen together.

The type and how it is administered will be determined by your HRT physician as it will depend on what type of program would be best for you.

Your Doctor will let you know how cautious you need to be but basically anything that avoids first pass through the liver is safer. Regardless, if you smoke, you should quit, because this increases your risks a lot. Also, in terms of doses, your Doctor will be monitoring your body's response rather frequently at the beginning- I hope you don't mind blood tests. So really, you don't need to worry about that either. Also, for some (like me) the initial low dosage may be fine. Really it depends on your body specifically so what you need to do is find a good endocrinologist you can trust and is willing to listen to your concerns. I did the same research you are doing now and it definitely made me feel more confident in the process though.

How often do you should you take level tests/blood tests ? or does that vary as well

That will totally be up to your prescribing physician. When I started my liver function and several other things were tested every six months. My hormone levels were tested every three months. I am now at six months for hormone levels and will probably go to once a year for everything else with my normal yearly check-up.
