Help, ive Called So Many Doctors For Therapy For T And Not 1 Has Called Me Back

Guest big

Hey guys after many years of thinking this out. I realize I'm getting older and more frustrated with my situation.I read the posts and I get inspired. I finally made the call to the doc (several actually) and no one ever answers their phones nor will they call me back. Do you guys think its because their swamped with other ftms? Or am i just having some bad luck? Any recommendations in the Los Angeles area? Thanks guys I look foward to my new journey.

stay patient but stay vigilent. you never really know whats going on at the doctor's office.

im sorry i dont have any recommendations.. but i encourage you to just keep calling.

hang in there dude.. and welcome to the journey. its a wild wild ride...

Are you calling transgender specialist doctors or regular ones? Of course, I'm assuming you're calling doctors/clinics for T and not therapists for therapy towards T. If they haven't called back after more than 3-4 days I don't think its because they're swamped - it's in their interest to call you back. If you're in the Los Angeles area there should be several transsexual-catering clinics nearby who can provide T.

Here's a link to a list of some primary care and endocrinology doctor resources I just found specifically in the Los Angeles area. Here's another resource list of therapists/counseling places near to your area as well as clinics/doctors providing transgender medical care (scroll down one third of page to get to the medical ones).

Hmm. Definately keep calling. And bear in mind, "too much" information in a phone message may not get taken seriously. No idea what yours said I just was thinking that.

hey guys,

thank you for your responses. I have only called gender therapists, and requested an appointment to meet with a doctor for counselling. I would rather skip this step and go straight to the md that can prescribe me the t and schedule me for top surgery. Not sure what steps need to be taken, but im getting anxious and really ready to finally start living my life at 43.

I did call the gay and lesbian center of la, apparently they have a 12 week group meeting for transgendered folks. I hope this can lead me to the path in which i desire. Any other suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks again boys!

Big I am glad you are able to start your process, but I would still recommend to get a gender therapist. One good reason is that for top surgery alot of doctors require that you are seeing a gender therapist. It also helps you alot to really know who you are and helps you in the process. Remember that us trans are still misundertood and discriminated against unfortunately. Don't worry about the age, I am 45 and I just started transitioning a few months ago, is never too late. Good luck man. :)

Good luck to you and your quest to be who you are. I hope that you have luck in getting a response from a doctor. Don't ever think that you are alone in your quest. There are others that will help and give you support when you need it. Just ask we are just a few key strokes away. I am the partner of an FTM and I am so proud of him. Some days are hard, but we manange to get through them. I know it's harder for him than it is for me. I tell him that I'm always there for him. If you do not have someone in your life, please make sure you have someone to talk to. (friend, relative, therapist) It's important to have a support system in place for the rough days.

Good Luck to you and I hope you quest is a gentle one to follow.

Definately good luck. And like Jose said, the gender therapist is actually (at least for me) not there to "analyze your transgenderedness" so much as to help you down a road; that can mean just having a spot to vent, or advice on which docs in your area do what, mine right now is giving me insurance advice and types of insurance for different stuff.

Advice and information are what you'll need/want lots of. Support groups are good cuz generally they're where you find all the therapist names.

Try contacting the FTM Alliance in Los Angeles. www.ftmalliance.org.

Good luck! If you're looking for a yahoo group for older guys, older and/or big ftms is a good one.

wow, thanks to everyone for the support!!

I cannot believe the relief that I finally am starting to feel for the first time since I was a happy toddler. I have been trying very hard to speak to someone in person about my situation and where to start. I was even trying to find t on line, (crazy I know now). I finally got a chance to speak to a rep for screening for a therapists at the glbt center. And even though she isnt a doctor the compassion she showed and how she also has trans friends. I start with a therapist in about 3 weeks and its more than a blessing that i wont be charged due to my finances and lack of insurance.

The night before my intake meeting there was a great special on msnbc called born in the wrong body, wow, then on discovery health they had back to back episodes of sex change mtf and ftm. All of this in just a few days, I feel euphoric. Im not alone and even though i may end up without a family, roomates or friends I just want to say thank you to you and this forum for keeping me on this planet a little bit longer.

Good morning    I have a busy week. Six days straight of work, Sunday off and I work on Monday. We get time and a half for Monday and our summer bonus pay kicks in so I’ll be able to get more things paid off.  Each on gone speeds up the process.  And makes things easier for the next target.     @KymmieL I’m sorry this happened.  Maybe it’s time for a career change.  I realize vehicles and parts is in your blood but maybe something else would take some stress away.   well, I’ve got a dog looking laying at my feet hoping to go out.   Willow

Please note that you would need to send an email to receive the actual survey link.   Seeking Interview Participants for Research Study on Digital Spaces of Transgender Belonging What is the Study About? Over the past several decades, the Internet has fundamentally changed how trans people form community spaces, explore gender identity, and practice community care. My dissertation will evaluate trans people's relationships to digital trans spaces, and I am conducting interviews as part of this research study. Who Qualifies? To qualify for this study, you must: • Be 18 years of age or older, • Identify as transgender or otherwise gender nonconforming (such as, but not limited to, nonbinary, genderqueer, genderfluid, agender, or Two-Spirit), • Have sought out online transgender resources or communities, AND • Currently live in the United States. What Does It Involve? A brief (five minute) screening survey, later followed by a virtual interview lasting approximately one hour. You will receive $75 after participating in an interview as compensation for your time. Your participation in this interview is completely voluntary. If you choose to participate, you will be asked to reflect on your history with trans online communities and resources. Data Usage and Confidentiality Policy This research study is being conducted as part of a Ph.D. dissertation, which will be published. Raw or identifiable data, including interview transcripts and recordings, will not be made publicly available. Analysis from this study may be presented publicly or included in future publications. This will head for a court case and the notable fact that the people opposing puberty blockers is that they have not revealed their source and its competence.  It will be present the evidence and let your "experts" sit on the grill above the hot coals.

Pretty typical for many nations.... corrupt police, and only great effort by the victim's family will eventually yield prosecution.  Conviction is uncertain, and sentencing even more so.
