I wrote this poem on Oct 27th 2006 after another failed attempt to tell my family how I was feeling, how I knew I was a man trapped inside a women's body. I would look in the mirror every night before bed and wonder if I was on the other side, then I would go back to my room and cry until I fell asleep.

~Beyond The Mirror~

Slowly I tilt my head up; it's the first thing I see.

No smiles, no laughter, this really can't be me.

Brushing my hair, and washing my face.

Beyond this mirror, must be a better place.

Why does she look so sad, with a tear in her eye?

Is she just like me, does she sometimes cry?

Take a deep breath now, and hold on tight.

Give yourself a big hug, with all your might.

As I get close enough, I can truly see.

Across the way, and beyond the mirror;

I believe that's me.

Here are some lyrics that I wrote years ago ... I thoat they the song was about my Uncle returign home in 1972 from Vietnam when I was a just a little kid bu the had PTSD and it really impacted me. When we were recording this songm about 10 years ago,a freind pointed out that the song is not just about my Uncle ... that the song is actaully about me.

Chair at the Table

it's been years

since he's been home

can hardly recognize him

for so many years

he's been on his own

he braves a smile

and he embraces them

the world is such a cold place

let's make a warm place here

let's make a warm place

he takes his chair at the table

What words can be said?

so none are spoken

to a heart so bruised

but not broken

"sometimes you win -

sometimes you lose"

that what the told them

but it's only half the truth

and they know it

it's been years

since he's been home ...

Thanks JB, that is a great poem/song, wish I could actually hear it be sung. Oh, if you mean over here, as in the poetry forum, yes it is great to be here, I'm so glad I found it. I've been writing poetry now for 9 years and I found that I very much love reading others poems as well, this place is awesome, I feel like I'm in a coffee shop and the name of the coffee shop is, Laura's Playground.

*Peace*

Hi AlexJean,

<<< hug >>>

Mirrors are wonderful things

They can show you allot of things

One thing they can;t show you though is what is inside of your heart

well all save one i guess

You are beautiful Alex Jean -_-

But then you always have been -_-

 snow white
