What has President Obama done for us...

As a firm believer of voting for people that have MY best interests at heart (I know, a rarity nowadays in politics) I thought I would give a tally of what President Obama has done for our community and the advancement of trans rights and issues.

Is the first President to name an openly trans appointee to his administration.

Signed the Byrd-Shepard hate crimes bill

Signed the UN Declaration On Sexual Orientation And Gender Identity.

Brought about a National Resource Center for LGBT Elders

Appointed the first transgender DNC member (Diego Sanchez.)

Changed the policy of the State Dept that prior required proof of SRS to change gender marker on passports

Appointed Amanda Simpson to his administration as a Department of Commerce senor technical advisor

Instructed the SSA (Social Security Administration) to cease the policy of sending out "no match gender" letters.

Banned job discrimination based on gender identity throughout the Federal government

Oversaw and instituted housing non-discrimination regulations by/with HUD.

Oversaw the VERY rare AOD (Action On Decision) AOD 2011-3 ruling which not only reverses the IRS' earlier policy of declining allowance of deductions relating to transition expenses (specifically HRT and SRS) but with this ruling cements that all future deductions will be allowed without scrutiny.

I know, your vote for POTUS should be contingent on many things not just what he has done for trans issues and I also know that for the most part I am preaching to the choir here but to the rare few that would vote the other way, I ask that you take a moment of pause and reconsider.

Cudos for that, but what has he done for the country?

Well I could post another list but I think I might hit the maximum characters allowed in one post before I am done.

A google search using your question has definitely brought up some answers (for better or for worse.)

Wow the list is impressive.

My only issue with the president is that he has been a lot softer on the environment then I had hoped.

On the other hand the current opposition will be a disaster.

I hear you, but on the note of the environment, I think his refusal to bow to the oil lobby and cancel the XL pipeline deal is not only a stance on his commitment to the environment, but also a reversal of his previous overwillingness to kowtow to the right.

I truly believe, unfettered by the need to seek re-election he will accomplish a lot in his second term.

I will admit I didnt vote on Obama the first time (I didnt vote on McCain either) and before that I have only voted Republican. Now I will be voting A LOT differently. I never had problem with GLBT but never factored that into my voteing. Then all of a sudden a month ago I woke up to a whole new world.

Karen, Hon............

Politics is a sour spot to get involved in here or anywhere (along with religion....)

Please don't get upset...

We have Democrats, Independents, Republicans and others on this site....

And like my 'ole buddy Rick Nelson said......

"ya can't please everyone, so, ya gotta please yourself..."

Please don't let different opinions bother you....

Huggggggggggs

I'm genuinely scared to think of what could happen to the country if certain people on the right were to be elected. Not just on LGBT issues, but those are up there. Can you imagine if Santorum was made president?

I can no longer comment on this thread. Sorry, I just can't agree with this.

I can't speak for others but I am always interested in hearing opinions that differ from my own. I see it as the only way to gain new perspective and information.

You are entitled to your opinion if you care to share it, but I also respect your choice to bow out.

(and for the record, I didn't vote for him (or McCain for that matter) last time around either.)
