Laser Hair Removal?

Hey Ladies,

Have any of you gone with permanent hair removal with the laser method? I personally hate shaving and I was wondering how much that would run...

Thanks,

Lisa

I've had laser on my face, arms, back and chest. Some girls say wait and let the hormones take care of the hair. I've been on hormones for 11mths, had laser and still have hair. Without the laser I would be shaving my body all the time. With the combo, all I have is fine white hair.

Was it worth it? To me, yes, but I can afford it.

Some girls lose a lot of their hair with just the hormones.

Everyone Is different.

Hi Autumn,

I have very dark hair and I get 5 o'clock shadow at 9:00 am. Plus, I just hate what the razor does to my skin. What kind of costs would I be looking at? If you'd rather not talk finances in public, please PM me.

Thanks,

Lisa

Lisa, I had laser done on my face only, which took about 8-10 months, once a month. I used American Laser Centers, and signed on during one of their (frequent) sales. It cost me $1,600, payable in installments, interest-free. Not a bad deal as far as I'm concerned.

I had mixed dark gray and white facial hair, and it worked great on the grey. I still shave, but it takes half the time, and I'm good for 24 hours easily. My face is as smooth as a baby's butt for many hours. So if you have dark hair, you are an excellent candidate. Good luck!

Like Carolyn said, if you have dark hairs you are a good candidate (other factors might apply) for laser.

Laser is not considered permanent hair "removal" by the FDA but "reduction" because not everyones hair will get zapped. Light colored hairs aren't as affectively zapped, therefore if you had a mixture of hair color on your face, light hairs might still be there while the dark ones would be gone.

I have had about 8 treatments now. I have some light colored hairs I had before that remain. The majority of my face "was" dark hair, but that is gone. No beard shadow! Find a place that has the best equipment and a really good reputation.

As far as price. I was paying where I live $330 a session, every 6 weeks. It is now down to every 8 weeks. That included the neck part of the beard shadow area too btw.

The home hair removal lasers won't work on the masc. face, thick, deep rooted hair follicle roots.

Laser has made a huge difference in my life!

Hi.

I'm interested in this thread and have done some investigations as well as having had an initial assessment.

Unfortunately my natural head hair is very grey and I was advised that current laser systems will not work on grey hair.

Are there any developements in the USA that might offer hope for the future please?

My alternative is of course electrolisys but even here I was advised to save my money.

I shall continue to investigate systems in the hope something will come to my attention that is new.

I understand no laser systems will offer "permanent" hare removal even with dark hair. Is that correct please?

It doesn't matter what the color of hair on your head but the color of the hair on your face. You probably meant that.

There is another treatment called IPL intensive pulse light treatment. It may reduce the hair on the face but no guarantees how it will affect you. It uses a xenon bulb. Sometimes it is called a laser treatment but it is not a laser. It is not as effective as laser I have heard but I also heard it works with different hair colors apparently.

Electrolysis isn't so much something to save up or rather than to budget for. If for example the total cost is ten thousand or fifteen thousand dollars you aren't paying for it all at once. One hour treatment a week, every week until it's done. It's pay as you go.

Electrolysis has been around over a hundred years I think. It is the only method that the FDA recognizes as permanent hair removal. It is that effective when done properly.

Laser treatment will not work on all hair colors, white or blond for example. If you do have dark hairs on your face they should disappear permanently. Some hairs might get missed during treatment but they will be zapped as the laser treatment goes along. Maybe requiring the laser power be increased. There are about five or six hair growth cycles on the face. The laser treatment works on the current hair growth cycle when you go in for treatment, afterwards the hair exfoliates over say a 10 day period. Several weeks later you go in for laser treatment to zap the latest hair growth cycle and so it is repeated. Permanent hair reduction means over all the amount of hair on the face is reduced permanently. Subject to the color of the hair being treated.

I never have to worry about beard shadow ever again. The light colored hair I had before treatment is still there but I have probably lost about 70% of the hair on my face permanently! I am still getting laser treatment, increasing the power and working on some stubborn hair. What remains of the lighter hair that won't go away can be treated with electrolysis. I know there is one of the members here that I have read her posts, she has had fifteen laser treatments so far. I am guessing I might need that too.

I've had either 4 or 5 treatments so far (I honestly forgot. I guess the pain numbed my brain). I have light skin and dark facial hair so again I was a "perfect candidate". Currently I just have a few straggling areas on my neck and one or two follicles on the face that have refused to die but I'm pretty sure they will at my next session coming up in a few days. The only downside to having so much of my beard shadow gone is that I see how many greys I have. Shaving, though, used to take about 10 minutes. Now it takes about 2.

The place I go to is a locally-owned business, run by one woman who is certified and qualified to do all kinds of things from laser and electrolysis to permanent makeup. She gave me the TS discount so I pay $250/session (normally $300). I'm really happy with my results with her and I'm glad I didn't go to Ideal Image.

Sarah, I don't know if the equipment is the same in the U.K., but it certainly isn't true for the equipment they used on me. My facial hair was gray with a small percentage of white, and it worked fine on the gray hair. Hair color itself is irrelevant - its the amount of melanin in the hair that is important. White hair has almost no melanin.

I paid $1500 for 6 treatments. That was over 10 years ago and I've had almost no regrowth. The facial hair I have now is a lot less noticeable than other women my age.

I'm volunteering both days of our Pride Festival (signing other volunteers in, lol).    Taking my two younger kids (oldest is way too cool for school, lol) to a family friendly pride festival, and then turning them loose at the city wide event while I listen to music. They're old enough to experiment with independence and the festival is in a controlled enough space they can feel like they're getting away from me without being *that* far away. My middle is newly out as LGBTQ+ and has been practicing their makeup look for a couple weeks already (age 14) <3

Well today was mostly sleeping so far. I woke up at around 0600 and made sure my oldest was ready for school. I came back down on the computer chair and next thing I knew it was 0953. I went through speech therapy for myself. Next thing I realize it's 1300 and apparently went to sleep again. I knew I slept last night but whew apparently not enough.

Jeans, grey henley, heathered grey blazer with elbow patches, split sole jazz sneakers. Blazer is one of my favorite wardrobe pieces and it's warm but super windy today so perfect sort of day for it

Fragile is my word of the day. More intense dysphoria than my baseline normal, feeling emotionally on edge. Also ignoring a piece of therapy homework that's actually going to be beautiful when it's done (I'm doing an art piece exploring emotions around the name I was given at birth).

Got accosted in a grocery store parking lot this morning by someone out on a petition drive (in my state, citizens can gather petition signatures to advance ballot measures; I'm always a little cautious about encountering petition drives "in the wild" because unless it's an issue that's been talked about *a lot* it can also be used as a way to just gather voter information).   ANYWAY, the person with the clipboard is presumable cis male and aggressive and I'm AFAB, genderfluid, dressed pretty androgenously this morning and this guy hollars across the parking lot asking "young lady" if I'm a registered voter.   Informed him I'm neither young nor a lady (guy was at least a decade younger than me, maybe more) and wasn't interested in the petition anyway.   "Oh, so I guess you're just offended then."   "YEP!"

I also struggle with being short (5'2) and everyone around me is taller especially my guy friends. And to my guy friend I pass with them and they're cool with me being trans but I often don't feel man enough and I'ts really hard dealing with the feeling of not being enough, and my mom often makes it seem as if I'm hopping on a trend which isn't true. I wear masculine clothes and sometimes I pass well but a lot of times I don't and that's really a struggle. Some people say I act masculine and others say the opposite, I try to pass but some times it's really hard especially with my mom because she uses my birth name me and uses she her pronouns for me and doesn't let anyone use anything else because they say they're being respectful to her even though she's not there. I remember being in an art group and they use my name Felix and my mom got flaming mad and told me and the people in charge that if they called me Felix again she would revoke my privilege to go there and I'd never go again. So it's often tough to pass all the time.
    • Ashley0616
WOW! Did she give a reason at least? It's not like it takes up that much space.
    • awkward-yet-sweet
Yeah, it would be awesome to have something new, and it would fit the space pretty well.  We have kitchen counters big enough to process whole deer, goats, large amounts of vegetables, etc.   Unfortunately for me, I couldn't even convince our "den queen" to let me have counter space in our downstairs kitchenette for a Keurig.  🙄

I think the biggest mental block to acceptance is the language that keeps us othered and on the fringes, rather than woven deeply into society. But I also think that's changing fairly rapidly. My youngest is well into their young adult genre novels phase and I'm impressed (and kind of amazed) at how many of their mainstream traditionally published novels have LGBTQ+ themes woven in. That child is 12, and I suspect that as the kids who are in middle school along with them grow up, they're just going to expect and demand better than we've done as their parents. They've seen it in the fiction they read and have every expectation that it will be part of the life they live.

Heck they took off three grand on that one. That is massive! Then again your nest isn't small either so I guess would definitely come in handy.

Congrats on T <3   The height problem I think is an issue for a lot of trans guys, unfortunately. I know more tall cis women than short cis men, so it especially stands out to me whenever I'm in a room. I'm hoping for your voice to drop soon, good luck! (I've heard it feels a little bit like a cold? If that's true, hope it'll feel better quickly and that it's worth it!)
