Feminine Masculine Clothing

My therapist and I have been trying to develop a list of things I can wear that would reinforce my femininity while still presenting as a male. Do any of you have any thoughts as to what I can wear that will help reinforce the feeling of being a woman while still being able to exist in the male role i have to perform right now?

Hi Teri.

I wear jeans, tee shirts, briefs, cardigans, socks and shoes all of which are female but are also androgynous.

I have to be careful as I have agreed with my Partner not to wear anything overtly feminine e.g. skirt, dress, high heeled shoes etc when we are out together. However since I also wear camisols under my clothing I am keeping in touch with my feminity:-)

When I am out on my own to a TV/TS group meeting she is perfectly at ease with what I wear and then I dress in a skirt and top, tights or knee highs etc.

One thing that might also help you enjoy your new found persona would be to let your nails grow and wear nail varnish. Nothing coloured but a clear varnish. It is these small things that can make all the difference to how we feel:-)

Good luck,

SarahW

ok...what kinds of tops...colors...tight jeans?

Wide collared plain color, striped, any color, but women's tops. Tight jeans you don't have to, only if you felt comfortable. Maybe just start with the tops and sweatshirts etc you get from the women's section of the store. Pick out some nice socks and panties you like too. Small steps.

these are all really good suggestions. i have been trying to wear more colorful clothing like pink and purple shirts. i like the idea of women's tops. i have to retrain my brain for buttons that are different from my usual shirts. what about shoes?

I have been wearing womens penny loafers, and plain looking flats, for 2 years now, they just appear sleeker thats all and with womens trouser socks they fit and feel wonderful, i also am still presenting male, and like yours my therapist has been encouraging me to push farther in presenting a more feminine appearance, today while shopping I found 2 turtlenecks on seasonal clearance in one the better womens department, the one difference is they are a Lycra blend much softer and shiniere than mens, we will see what kind of reaction I get if any at all when I start to wear them next week. Also when home I go as feminine as I can it makes me feel better and I live alone.

i know this...i love the feel of women's clothing more. any other thoughts on shoes? at what point would clothing start to attract attention and make those around me uncomfortable?

If others around you are uncomfortable it's there problem not yours, the point your therapist is making is that moving to more feminine appearance will help you become more comfortable with who you trully are.
