I live in Puebla, and the news about Agnes homicide was shocking, and it shows us that there is still a long way to walk until our situation is really understood and accepted.

Agnes was a beautiful woman, who fought for the rights and equality among every person. But here in Mexico, anyone who is different is dangerous. There have been 20 cases like this in the last years in Puebla, and so far none of them have been solved, no one has been found guilty.

Last friday, over almost two thousand people gathered in the main square of the city, to protest and demand that the government investigate and solve this crime. After about an hour, a few police men and somehow intimidatingly, asked if we were done yet, or we would try to stay longer. Then everyone started to move towards the house of government, hopefully we could ask for an audience with the person in charge. The person didn't attend us, and instead, sent a minor official saying that he would deliver our petitions to the person in charge.

But little by little, our society is starting to understand. Reading the comments on the news, videos, social networks, we are now find both kind of people, those who defend equal rights, and those who see anything about LGBT community as evil or wrong. A few years ago, the voices of people thinking about us as in the wrong were the only ones heard.

It might take the sacrifice of many brothers and sisters, but hopefully, someday we will all live in peace. Like any people. Rest in peace Agnes, thank you for sharing your life with us, thank you for all your effort in fighting for our rights, thank you for educating so many people about what really LGBT is: normal people, like any other, with dreams, rights, feelings... thank you for helping those sisters who were insecure of what to do, even saving some of us which were thinking about suicide, or helping our family understand us... shall you be in a better place now, maybe God called you a bit earlier because he needed a strong angel. You shall not be forgotten.
