This is interesting, and potentially valuable, but i have some doubts, too.

If you are considering getting involved, please think it over very carefully. Being out in this kind of public way can have its drawbacks.

We have had this one in here before, or at least some notice that Masachussets was doing this. I personally think its a good idea, since it does involve people for whom being out is not the major risk that it can be. We do need to be seen by the public as real, and in this case, attractive people who have open accomplishments that benefit society as a whole. None of us here at the Playground hit the grotesque or train stopping ugly that too many people envision us as having, but having someone who is at the high end of the social presentablity scale and out and accepted by their families and work associates may help our families and co-workers adjust to us. I too however feel a level of caution towards some trans people who are not sure of themselves, who are not fully out, and whose families will be given an unprepared shock if they are openly presented in something of this nature. We do have our detractors and even enemies combing these things just so they can cause havoc in our lives.

Carolyn:

Personally, I believe both are effective projects. Successful people and good citizens in our community are superb spokespeople for us. I believe the underlying premise of Lynn Conway's websites' profiles are based on this very same idea ... not only to provide positive role models for transpeople but to apprise the general community of our successes and contributions to the larger society which will help present our case.

Yes, I believe these projects are good, and I congratulate the people involved.

Huh? Maybe GLAAD could just advertise 'No fat chicks'?
