i have a quick question, i am curretnly growing my hair out and for some reason the hair behind my ears and at the bottom back of my head curls up. thats the only place it curls, and i don't know why. it would be so bad if it would go tot the sides but it sticks out. any suggestions on how to fix this?

it seems natural.

growing hair will often tend to 'flick' like this, inevitably in the least desirable places. it might subside with time and length because of the added weight of the hair, so leaving it to grow may be the only permanent solution - short of japanese chemical straightening or shaving them off.

if it really irritates you, it's always possible to iron them out with straightening tongs; that's easy enough, though only temporary.

though some people find them cute.

There are shampoos and conditioners out there that actually helps straighten curls out. Using a straightener may just ruin your hair, if you are trying to get it long, its a real bad thing for the hair. I would use products instead. I think there's also certain kinds of serums that can help it straighten it up for you. You can also try blowdrying, but use with cool on, if you dont want your edges to be all ripped apart.

yea i was looking at straightners a few days ago, is there a big differnce between the 10 dollar ones and the 30 dollar ones. i'm on a bit of a budget but don't want to pay money for something if it will work a week then break.

It sounds like you have natural curly hair, which isn't always a bad thing. I myself have naturally curly hair and I love it. I would never want to change it, but that's me. When my hair is short it's almost like having straight hair and when I grow it longer, it does just like what you describe, starts to curl in the back and i just let it be. when long though, I use conditioner and brush out in the shower and then rinse and just barely pat dry, then run my fingers through it afterwards and give it a good shake and let it dry naturally, and i get perfect curls every time. I can't tell you how to straighten your hair as I have never wanted to have my hair any other way. It's so girlie, I love it....I would suggest letting it grow naturally and be happy that you're blessed with curls. You might find, as your hair grows longer, your hair will curl more. Hope this helps........

if it were longer i wouldn't mind, now its just the fact that no matter what i do with it it looks like crap. it gets really bad by my ears where it sticks straight out.

Got ya. I got the same. But it's temporarily.

I just have to walk with it, or use a lot of gel to tame it down. As someone else already said: some find it cute! It's very hard to straighten with product since the hair naturally curves down from behind the scalp, and thus when you straighten that part it will just flinch back up when dry. I do semi-straightening (6-8 minutes) by myself every 2 months, works fine and no damages whatsoever, have to remember that straighteners are made fro Afro-American hair which is more vulnerable than our type (you would think the opposite, but it's not the case) Their hair is extremely fragile, so when straightener is used on our type of hair it has less effect and less chance to damage it. But in the end, curls go where they wanna go, and they will come back even after straightening it. Has a mind of it's own :D
