It pretty much had to be that way because that is the very nature of how to justify oppression.

In keeping a complex social problem to its simplistic form it is so easy to blur the lines and leave out facts and make things sound any way that you want them to.

Most 'facts' as presented by politicians are taken in the light if how they are presented, that is why in a race between two candidates one 'views his opponent's record with alarm' while the opponent 'points with pride' to his record - they are exactly the same record but one is given a negative spin and warning of worse to come while the other glows with such positive pride.

The only way to deal with oppression is for those doing the oppressing (and let's face it everyone does a little oppressing of others in very small ways - in a store if you change your mind about something do you take it back all the way across the store to put it back or leave it where it is - it is the job of the underpaid employee so just leave it where it is no point in making life easier for anyone) to actually realize that they are oppressing someone and that it is wrong to do so - most often it only goes as far as knowing that they are doing it and this article explained the ways that they can justify it to themselves and be happy.

Love ya,

Sally

Interesting article.

It reminds me of a local radio host / lawyer who brags he is all for LGBT folks and that he has hired them and had a gay roommate in college. But when it comes to them having equal marriage or even a civil union he is all against it saying that this is a privilege for only heterosexual couples.
