Shaving after my first laser treatment OUCH

Did anyone else have issues shaving their face after getting laser? I had mine done on Thursday and just now decided to shave. My face felt like concrete, it was dry and felt more rough than usual. And when I went to actually shave (in the shower with nice hot water, only place I won't tear my face up) It didn't really do anything. Now my face just sorta hurts and my stubble is not any shorter. Is this the effect of the laser treatment? My facial skin is pretty sensitive and shaving can give me a lot of irritation but I am wondering if that translated to the laser as well.

Kaili, if they offered you a moisturizing cream or gel, even if its a bit costly, I suggest you buy some. The laser treatments will irritate the hell out of your hair follicles as well as dry your skin, and the moisturizer I used is (they said) specially formulated to relieve that. Not to mention that it just felt good after applying it.

It's not a good idea to use hot water on your face. It will dry your skin out and can cause wrinkles. I would recommend using warm water when shaving or when washing your face (with a facial cleanser).

As a side not you should not use hot water on your hair when using conditioner.

Oh noes, winkles * shriek*! I usually shower in hot-ish water. Mostly to help open my pores. If I shave my face under any other conditions I'll destroy it. I know it drys it out, but it's better than hamburger face. I have never had issues shaving my face but I'll get some moisturizer on it before my skin turns into dust.

All they gave me was some aloe stuff, I put that on face feels a little better. My fiance went and took her facial lotion when she left for the weekend :( I need to go get my own.

I did have issues shaving a few days after laser. It felt like the razor wasn't doing anything! I'd run the razor over my face and it still felt like stubble. Immediately following the laser treatment, after I'm done burying my face in an ice pack, I put on aloe vera gel, the same kind used for sunburns. Put it in the fridge until it's time to use it and it will feel sooo nice on your face.

I also shave/wash in warm water. Not hot, but warmer than lukewarm. It helps to open up your pores which in turn can help get out any dirt or grease. Once your done washing your face you can splash it with cold water to tighten up your pores again. Also as soon as I'm out of the shower I'll put on a moisturizing lotion on my face before I start my makeup routine.

Oh and hello from Colorado! (I've been here since Friday...)

Colorado is great! The only thing about it is both a blessing and a curse, the dryness and I only just discovered facial moisturizing lotion. My fiance had some and I finally bought my own. Makes my face feel so much better.

But yeah Lizzie, what you described is exactly how it felt. I was really confused. I thought I knew what I was doing lol.

Thanks for the feedback ladies!

The face is sensitive for a few days after laser when you are just starting. You will also notice that try as you may to make your face look clean, there will be this stubble under the skin that you can't get too. It's like a dirty face but it's not. The hairs on your face from the treatment take a little while to come to the surface and exfoliate. Give it 10 to 14 days. About shaving. If you are using a disposable razor blade you might try an electric razor if you have one at home. I would think an electric razor would be easier on the skin.

Thanks for the info Krisina. Yeah nurse said with my hair growth she said about a week for the hairs to fall out. But since I have been using lotion every few hours, my skin feels MUCH softer. I might try shaving again tonight.

Nope.  I live in a rural area.  Pride events are for city folks.  The normally quiet LGBTQ+ club kind of changes atmosphere during that time, and things get a bit political.  As a non-Democrat, I avoid it.

For me, definitely the size thing.  I'm 5'4" on a good day, and 100lbs.  I can pass as a teenage boy, but never for my real mid-30s age.  And since my husband looks older than his age, I'm often assumed to be his kid.  Or folks think there's something illegal going on.      Also, my lack of the typical aggressive "masculine" demeanor.  I don't really desire the typical masculine social role, nor could I do it even if I tried really hard.  I'm usually quiet and kind of timid.

I am sorry for your struggles. I cannot empathize, but I can surely sympathize. I wish only the best for you!

My size. A lot of guys aren't 5'3" at seventeen. My hands. It's a less noticeable one, but my hands are very "feminine"? If you know what I mean. My voice. Very high-pitched. I don't just sound like a female, I sound like a little girl sometimes My chest. I've had to stop binding due to frequent aches doing so, and it's not nearly small enough to just cover with baggy clothes My family. They still call me she/her, so that's an automatic out. My anxiety. I might be able to pass better if I had the courage to correct people. Instead, I'm too scared to speak up, so I find it hard. My lack of men's clothes.   Anyone else have these problems, or other ones?

From what I have read and heard most people are so.busy with their everyday lives and either looking at their phones or in a hurry to notice you out and about.

This exactly ^^^   I actually really liked games where I was required to play a male character. It felt homey, in a way.

I can relate.  I have always played a female character when given the opportunity. Not really and reason except I just alway pick them since I was young

Yes, our little town is having its 3rd annual Pridefest. I've volunteered the first two years  from setup to tear down (though I do take an hour off to eat and drink in the middle).     Then I attend a bigger one a couple towns over that has had some decent entertainment from some semi-famous folks (Laura Benanti, Patrick Wilson, Carmen Carrera, Judy Gold, etc).    This year I made sure to ask off of (weekend) shifts to attend a 3rd one where a group I'm in is in the parade.

Hi Vicky, I agree with you, so far since the time I've been under the new treating doctor's care, she prescribed me medication, but it's for children lol  luckily  my pharmacy warned me from a phone call not to take the medication.

Welcome to the party, M.A.     Sounds chaotic haha, I can confidently say that living with only two children the same age is stressful enough, much less three!
