Advice and Information

I'm 18, so I'm fairly young. I've done a fair amount of research on FTM sexual reassignment surgeries and the effects of testosterone. As of right now, I am only interested in hormonal therapy and "top" surgery. I have yet to decide how far I will go with the "bottom" surgery, to put it bluntly.

However, I'm not sure how to locate a gender therapist, how the process works (becoming prescribed for hormones, etc) and how I should go about doing it. I am interested in starting hormonal therapy relatively soon (within a couple years or so) but I obviously need to get in touch with a therapist/physician first who could aid with the process. So, thanks for reading. I'm really just looking for advice, information, or just how you went about with your own process if you have done so already.

Be you,

JohnV

Hey, John........

I'll give you a general overview that is applicable to MTF and FTM...(I'm MTF...) (but, not the ONLY way to do it)

First ...as per the S.O.C> (Standards of Care) which most gender therapists and doctors adhere to....

You need to find a qualified Gender Therapist...We have a list here on Lauras, or a Google search in your area would most likely work.....

The most common amount of time for therapy is 12w hours over three months to get a letter for HRT....

That is then taken to an Endocrinologist (or other doctor) who can do a blood workup on you to check your base levels...

Based on that info, they can prescribe your doses of HRT.....

I hope that helps a bit!

That does give me a good idea of where I should start. Thank you for the info. I will start looking into that. I've already been dealing with an endocrinologist but I didn't inform her I was transgender. I think that will be my next step.
