Like Donna Jean said, you have to practice. Just make sure that you are practicing correctly - you can perfect a mistake just as easy. Go to the food court at a mall and order a large drink - take your time and sip it very slowly (that's feminine in itself). watch the women of all ages as the walk in and place thier orders (watch how they hold ther arms and hands when they go into the purse for the money - watch how they carry thier trays, place them on the table and sit down. Go ahead (don't stare) and observe as they eat and drink - notice where they keep thier hands and elbows - watch carefully as they get up dispose of the trash and walk away. Observe several women of different ages and try to find body types close to yours. A couple of hours in the food court is like a week of private lessons. Pick the movements that suit you and practice them - they should be easy if you have taken your body type into account. A little hint - women's joints are looser than men's, they say that hormones will help to loosen the joints and make it even easier.

Hope that helps,

Sally

One of the things I noticed.. being a sound engineer I notice these things, was the different sound women make while walking. Men walk rather heel-toe and heavy.. stomp stomp.. women announce.. the clack of heels, every footfall placed. As you can't watch yourself while you walk but listening is easy I went and duplicated the rhythm and sound.. then got a friend to film me.. It works nicely, Head up. good posture, slight swing of the hips.. you need them all to get the sound right I found. and you don't need to think after a while because it's just the noise you make walking around XD

While watching notice how older women are different from the young in the way they do just about everything, and also it varies with apparent wealth. As others have said.. watching is worth any amount of training.... One day I was looking at a tall smart woman reflected in a window on a station and taking the usual notes when it dawned on me that the object of my scrutiny was me.. Odd feeling for a few minutes, then my world changed.

:P All great advice - observe and practice.

But also imagine what the girl you are watching is feeling, practice holding that mind-set.

I like to "be" a girl when I sit and walk. I simply have that feeling - the rest seems to come out.

I don't "pretend" to be a girl, that makes me mince and exaggerate.

Also it is probaly more important to learn to just stand in place as a girl - try that one!

True.. It's not about pretending, it's about unlearning the male posture and mindset that has been programmed in for a lifetime. Like biting your nails.. they are habits and can be broken.

I relaxed when I saw that I just passed while not being aware of how I was standing.. and TBH.. I haven't thought about it since.

When I was a kid, my grandma tried to teach me to walk more womanly. The only thing she kept repeating was: "place one foot in front of the other, like you're walking on an imaginary line."

Also - thing that helps with female posture and walks: take ballroom dancing lessons. Once you're able to do a rumba walk, you know how women walk. The more often you dance, the more automatic it becomes to you pull back your shoulders and stick your chest out. Makes for a spectacularly female posture and walk - trust me, I didn't even want that and did it anyway. ;)

Chibi read Huckleberry Finn. There is a chapter where he goes tho this woman's house fressed as a girl, and his entire body language is off.

The woman plays along for awhile and at the end calls him out on the sham or scam, snd tells him everything he did wrong and how next time he could get away with the charade if he did this or that worth reading. Pick up the book and find that chapter or bettr yet read the entire book.....................Keep being curious,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Mia.

Sitting X legged the right way . Heels make you walk a certain way and the higher the heel the straighter the line between the thigh and the calf. The straight line walk is a fashion runway walk . Check out the woman who look awkward in heels and how they walk . Sit in such a way as to protect your modesty . Woman present themselves .

As I'm reminded almost daily, guys walk heavy. So to counter that, I practiced walking..uh..lightly. Like I'm trying to sneak up on someone. So I don't make much noise when I walk...and I end up sneaking up on people when I'm not even trying..which still confuses me considering I'm 6'5"! How do you not see a 6'5" person walking? But it happens.

oh and the walking an imaginary line - golden advice!

gives you a really sexy walk. while you're practicing put your hands on your hips and feel how they're moving. that's what the guys walking behind you will be looking at.

how to sit? well, keep your legs together, or at least your thighs..a lady reveals nothing.

which is easy sitting in a chair or couch or whatever in a skirt.

not so easy getting in/out of a car.

This is going to sound trite, but go rent (no... buy) a copy of the first "Princess Diaries" movie and fast-forward to the scenes where Julie Andrews is coaching Ann Hathaway on how to act like royalty. Then do that.

Hi Chibi...Confidence and poise...think I float when I walk and flow with my direction...your home is your stage and should be the 'Macro' and then in public minimize to where it is just peceptable/detectable as to what you are doing. A little secret is to keep your knees just very slightly flexed as you walk...this causes it to be perceived that you are gliding instead of walking...your head remains stationary as you 'float' from hither to yon...it reeks of grace. Sitting...and this is a surprise to me <hokey smokes> ALWAYS check the seating where your going to sit before you plop down***ahem settle in***and either wipe it yourself or ask for someone to do so, if it's really grungy ask for another seat...you are definately worth THAT much effort. If in a skirt or dress smooth the back out and hold it against your outerthighs...and for goodness sakes keep the knees together LOL...You go girl, Kelly Ann

OK, since I made the previous post, I've been obsessing on this question, cuz I really haven't given my poise/posture/walk very much thought up to now, but I asked my sister if I walked/sat like a girl, and she said yeah, pretty much. I hadn't really thought about it, so I watched a couple of guys and how they walked....

Here's one really wierd tip. Clench your butt. Do kegel exercizes constantly. I'm serious. As you're walking, clench your butt like you're wearing one of those old 1950's tight skirts or girdles. Seriously. Also, sit like that.... try it. If you're sitting right now, clench your butt and notice how you rise up in the chair.

Do that until you don't practice it anymore.

That's going to be hard, because I have spent so much time purposely ignoring my butt! :D

The one foot in front of the other walk keeps your weight directly over the shoe when you're wearing heels - you won't wbble (if you still wobble aimyour toes inwards) and it makes your hips sway, so nice!

A tip from the more mature matrons, when you sit a lady never actually crosses her legs - she brings her knees together and crosses her ankles! It also works so much better when you are in a formal! :)

Love ya,

Sally

Ladies might not, but girls are free to. Just make sure you're not crossing one ankle over the other knee--that's the guy way! Cross your legs one knee over the other or at the ankles if you're going to cross them at all.

You can find how-to's in this thread here--the asker was going the opposite direction, but the how-to's cover both sides. Look at savagedm's post and Sally's posts.

To confirm what you'll find there, I've noticed that when I'm somewhere I'm happy to be, I really do start bouncing. I'm practically jumping up and down with every step. Not when I'm at school, maybe, but when I'm dragging people around I do it a lot. (If I'm presenting more masculine that day, I have to stop myself, lol.) And the thing about women's arms swinging out from the elbow down is true, if you can understand what they're saying.

This should probably be another thread but along with walking and sitting but the guys I read a block away are the ones who dress too sexy .

If you want to draw attention to yourself wear 6 inch heels and a sexy skirt with no nylons or worse fishnet or french seamed stockings.

I wear heels at home when I can and prefer 4 inch french heels , they have a flared bottom to them so they are stable but fashionable .

It take a while for your muscles to stretch so you are not bending your knees to much so again practice at home .

This year stilletos have taken a back seat to more lower more sensible footwear .

Women are wearing boots and other footwear that are more unisex and easy to walk in.

This topic is a good one and has been around a while. I want add something I was doing with my walk the other day, I had on low heeled penny loafers but the heel was still there. She said what are you doing, you look like you are walking on a cloud. That's exactly what it felt like, so I use that when in my girl shoes and it works well.

Hope this tidbit helps.

Actually getting the feminine arm swing is very easy - if your arms are down to your side (almost never both at the same time - holding your purse strap can occupy one) rotate your hand until the thumb is pointing out about a 45 degree angle from your body and the swing will take care of itself.

A little tip here for dealing with some of the smaller muscle groups - like in how you smile!

Think about the result you want and not how to make that result - if you try to move the muscles just so to get that feminine slight smile, that we happy ladies seem to walk around with all of the time, you will end up looking like the Joker! Think of the smile and then loook in the mirror - it will be there!

Love ya,

Sally

Tip #3 -- wear a bra. Seriously, with some appropriately weighted inserts (rice in a bag made from the foot of a used pair of pantyhose). You'll find yourself holding your shoulders back in reaction to the bra straps. Also, the two protrusions from your chest will affect how you hold/swing your arms. Try it... seriously.

By the way, it's all about being subtle -- don't try to mince, but rather make very subtle changes in the way you walk and move. Pay attention to female dancers.

Wow, there's lots of good advice here!

I especially agree with keeping your feet together and walking as if you were walking a line. Christy's comment about wearing a bra is spot on too. I find that wearing one (even with nothing filling it) I instinctively keep my shoulders down and back. Also, and this might just be me, but wearing a bra makes me feel more like a "complete package" -- balanced, centered, contained. Which has a positive effect on my confidence and, in turn, my poise. I also like what was said earlier about "being" a girl versus "pretending" to be a girl. Confidence -- in this case, letting one's inner feminine light shine -- goes a long way.

Here's a question though; am I the only one who has trouble crossing their legs? I don't know if it's because I'm pre-HRT and certain, uh, things are in the way or I just have really big calves or what, but it's really uncomfortable. My ankle always ends up on my knee or under it, more often the latter like it is now and virtually every other time I'm at the computer.

Hi Emily...err I've got pretty well developed calves too...the muscles behind my knees are reeeally developed. I have a tendancy to cross my legs at the ankle though because I tend to move that 'floating foot' around. I change from leg to leg too, fairly frequently, so it can be done...comfortably I might add :D Generally I squeeze my inner thighs together, you couldn't fit a credit card between them, (((!!!DID I SAY THAT*of course I did, I'm a good girl and this is good practice for that*!!!))), then lift the leg to cross as tightly as possible up and just barely over the 'resting knee'. To adjust for comfort...at the apex of the motion pull the crossing ankle backwards towards your posterior and slightly lift the crossing legs knee, if necessary, to adjust for comfort. When you allow your leg to 'rest' and settle in it should be very comfy. Just keep those inner thighs 'welded together' therein lies the secret. I had to watch myself do this so I know it works...there were no trained professionals used for the demonstration...so for those of you in the viewing audience you need not worry about injuring yourself in attempting this. Happy bouncing  Kelly Ann

My size. A lot of guys aren't 5'3" at seventeen. My hands. It's a less noticeable one, but my hands are very "feminine"? If you know what I mean. My voice. Very high-pitched. I don't just sound like a female, I sound like a little girl sometimes My chest. I've had to stop binding due to frequent aches doing so, and it's not nearly small enough to just cover with baggy clothes My family. They still call me she/her, so that's an automatic out. My anxiety. I might be able to pass better if I had the courage to correct people. Instead, I'm too scared to speak up, so I find it hard. My lack of men's clothes.   Anyone else have these problems, or other ones?

Yes, our little town is having its 3rd annual Pridefest. I've volunteered the first two years  from setup to tear down (though I do take an hour off to eat and drink in the middle).     Then I attend a bigger one a couple towns over that has had some decent entertainment from some semi-famous folks (Laura Benanti, Patrick Wilson, Carmen Carrera, Judy Gold, etc).    This year I made sure to ask off of (weekend) shifts to attend a 3rd one where a group I'm in is in the parade.

Hi Vicky, I agree with you, so far since the time I've been under the new treating doctor's care, she prescribed me medication, but it's for children lol  luckily  my pharmacy warned me from a phone call not to take the medication.

Things hit the fan today. I was reminded that "this is not a gender fluid establishment."   I had changed my preferred name and gender at the hospital on their app. My x-ray report came in with my preferred name and gender. It was not appreciated by the centre. 😬

I'm not a nutritionist but I've gone on bulking diets in the past so I can suggest a couple things to try. Foremost, food-prep stuff that you like to eat. Any 'real food' that usually sounds good to you. That way, you don't have the time-sink or hassle of cooking for every meal. You're more likely to eat if stuff if it's convenient and mostly ready. For example, I'll spend an hour or so one evening prepping burrito ingredients that will last me the next 3 nights. Then it's just a matter of microwaving the beef/beans and throwing them into a tortilla; takes 5 min.   If you need food 'on the go' often, consider prepping smoothies in advance pre-separated out into individual containers. I personally like low-no fat yogurt blended with fruit and, here's the weird part, those water flavor drops. They add sweetness without dumping in excess sugar. Insulated containers will keep them reasonably fresh non-refridgerated all day so they can even be tossed into a backpack.    Hope of those sparked some ideas!

I did get a sorry from the mechanic, saying it was all on him. The boss just said I just went by what I was shown. I didn't look at the paper work. I thought maybe you should before jumping down someones throat.   I am still in the market. Just waiting to find the right one.   Hugs, Kymmie
