Its not all about looks.

Passing is not all about appearance. Appearance is only a piece of the puzzle. Passing is filling your role that you desire to be, not just looks wise, but how you walk and talk. How you move your body, the gestures you make, the pattern in which you speak, your voice, your emotions, and how you come off are just as important as looks. You should not always be so concerned about your appearance; because if at the end of the day you know who you are, and believe in who you are than what does it matter what you look like. If you believe who you are than others will too. Being paranoid about your appearance only brings attention to you, people will catch on to you if you are uncomfortable in your own skin. Confidence is key in passing. Going through my transition from male to female, I came to realization that it wasn't all about looks, people were still clocking me because of my voice and how I acted, and I did not realize this until halfway through my Sophomore year, (this year). People treated me like an outcast, until I was comfortable in my own skin, until I was confident, until I showed them and proved to them that I was the female that I am. I was so stuck up on appearance that it eventually caught up to me and struck me when people would clock me, and yet I still blamed it on my appearance. Then one day I was talking with my father about it ad he said, you stomp around like a man, your voice is deeper, and you still are acting masculine and eating like a male would. This hurt, but it is what I needed to be told for me to completely pass. I just wished to share this for all of you, some of you know and others do not. This is from my personal experience.

That is very sound advice, and something that should be taken to heart. I am worried about my appearance.. (haven't even started transitioning yet) .. but an equally concerned about my voice, body language, and all of that. I work on it every day. Thank you very much for this topic. :)

This is a very good advice. The voice and the looks are very important, but the manners including how you walk are often overestimated. Even me I thought it wasn't that important until I had an experience who proved me wrong. I was walking back home (full boy mode) when I saw that girl around 200 meters in front of me. I notice her walk was really strange, so it got my attention. When we crossed I undertood why. Unfortunately for her, her walk outed her because her cloth was nice (really like the jeans skirt) and her look was ok. That short moment really helped me to understand how small things like that can really harm you or help you to pass.
