Women and Dominance/Women in Power

Hi All,

Since we have a very interesting thread going on Men and Vulnerability I thought that it might be interesting to make a thread available to explore Women and Dominance or Women in Power.

I thought that we could explore women's role in;

  • Reclaiming
  • Infiltrating
  • Assimilating
  • Inverted
  • Perverting
  • Subverting
  • Sustaining

The existing power structure .... (or if you choose to use the term) the "Patriarchy."

It will be interesting to explore ideas about women's influence in social "norms." I woudl like to explore the idea of women as agents of positive social change but also women's role in stagnation and/or undesirable social impacts resulting from women's efforts at social reformation.

Fun Sub Topics may include:

MOMMIES and Maternal Figures

  • Mean and/or Manipulative
  • Absent
  • Good Mommies

Leadership Styles Among Women in Power (Past and Present)

Hilary Clinton to Sarah Palin to Margaret Thatcher to Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi

The "SEDUCTRESS"

Samson and Delilah phenomenon.

And the idea that Behind every Great man is a good Women:

The use of the phrase received a boost in 1985 with the release of The Eurythmics' song - Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves:

"Now, there was a time,

when they used to say,

that behind ev'ry great man,

there had to be a great woman.

But oh, in these times of change,

you know that it's no longer true.

So we're comin' out of the kitchen,

'cause there's something we forgot to say to you.

We say, Sisters are doin' it for themselves.."

I love Annie Lennox her lyrics and her androgyny

I do hope that while women are out there "Doin' it for Themselves" they are taking care to do it well and are doing it fairly ... not just fairly well.

Hugs,

JB
