The following appeared in the Toronto Star fashion section called "The Kit" under the byline Alanna Banks.

Would love to know if it works for trans.

"1. Pick up desired jeans.

2. Hold jeans by the waist and wrap the waist around your neck.

3. If you can touch each side without choking yourself and the sides aren’t overlapping they’ll be a perfect fit, if they’re overlapping go for the size below.

Trust me, it works every time! Happy shopping!"

Quik girls strip off those jeans and try it and let me know please

I'm sure it works, Rita. I just wonder how many stares you will garner from shoppers and store clerks while appearing to strangle yourself with a pair of jeans.:P

Rita, Leave it to you northerners to find a way to avoid the fitting room. This trend is probably caused by the clothing you must wear to keep warm. Down here in the tropics we try them on by simply slipping out then in. No muckalucks etc.

Haha I can't tell if charlie is joking Canada isn't that cold. We can get some pretty cold winters but some super hot summers. Going through a 30 degree celsius week right now :P

Would i kid you? After all where do the cold fronts come from. And then you say its 30. Wow in August. That just proves the point. Too many clothes to try things on.

A nice warm hug for our northern cousins,

Charlie

LOL, so much for trying to not draw attention to yourself

plus they are jeans!!! there's a reason why there's so many fits for the same size due to differences in how they fit your body. geez, I almost dread trying on jeans sometimes.

There are a couple methods I've been using to check whether something fits that are, IMO, more convenient than self-strangling:

Method 1: Take a guess, buy it, keep the receipt. Try it at home. If it doesn't fit, go back to shop with the receipt and the item to change it for one that will.

Method 2: Take my measures and write them down on a piece of paper. Bring that paper and a measuring tape with me when I go shopping. Check the measures of the item. The power of Science and Empirical measurement is amusing!

A plus on both methods is that they reinforce the common "excuse" of shopping for someone else (most visibly method 2).

You call that hot?? Here in northern Spain we hit 40ºC every day through the last week. 30 degree would be a blessing! And I don't want to even know how the weather has been towards the south... AFAIK, on July and August, they only go below 40ºC during nights, and hit the blazing 50ºC so often it makes me sweat just by thinking about it

yeah, I just take them with me to the dressing room also. with jeans, you HAVE to try them on, unless you found a style and size that you know will fit and you just want a different color. most places around me just want to know how many items you are taking in with you and then give you a number card. if it's a female only store, personally for me, I've never had an issue other than the initially confused look and then "they get it" and is more than happy to help.

So according to this technique I'm wearing the right size. Yay!

(of course I'd be crazy enough to try it..just not in public)

Yes I tried it and yes it worked.

And I don't care how many mirrors I have I still won't have a bum. A new cross dressing friend I met a moth ago swears by spanx cosets and bum pads , I will try the waist clincher but I will never be as small as she is again. But then I'm twice her age.

Why don't you just hold them at waist-level, see if it is large/skinny enough, and if it's long enough? That's what I always do. (sorry, this is an old post, but it was the most obvious answer so it had to be said.)
