it's November 4th and 70 degrees

as I walk from my apartment to Caffeine Dreams

I'm not a coffee junkie, but it's coffee I must buy

to fight a Starbucks giant who would roast the nation dry

I brought a borrowed book to bereave my borrowed brain

again the same place brings both pleasure and pain

And I dreamt of a picturehouse so quite and serene

you didn't know when the crowd would arrive or later leave

just the muffled, shuffled footsteps and the glowing of the screen

Now I sit facing a bathroom with a very certain shape

cut smoothly into stainless steel, symbol of the XX strain

a simple, solemn sentinel stoicly segregating sex

a centurion of safety from said seekers of soft secrets

simultaneously steals asylum from my seamless sacred self

I asked an old gas station worker, to tell me what he knew

of the caress of one's dress as it's pulled over your breasts

the resistence of skin how I still hold my breath

but he couldn't comprehend or he wouldn't so he said

"We don't do dirty laundry, here's your quarters." and I left.

Still I try to sit up straight, people say I have great legs

I get cat calls and car honks at my sexy DNA

then a very puzzled face, no one quite knows what to make

of a male declared by she "the woman that I strive to be."

while my voice reveals the boyish seal that I shall not forsake

People will always argue over political correctness,

but I am just a tomato somewhere in the produce section

you can poke and prod my skin, but if you commit and bite in

the flavor is not subject to your interpretation
