ACLU Takes On Oklahoma Name Change Case

The fact that the judge is so bold as to invoke "divine intervention" or reasoning that clearly ignores the legal principal of separation of church and state, to me indicates that he is unfit for office due to violation of an oath to uphold the Constitutions of both the state and the nation. The guy needs a ride out of town on a fence rail wearing tar and chicken feathers.

The ACLU is not the only organization working on this issue, the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund (TLDEF) (Transgenderlegal.org) is another player on our side for this.

Certainly someone should be able to choose whatever name they want and it would be a sticky situation to start havinging the name police deciding what names are male or female. It starts to become blurry.

Hopefully this is the clear case that it appears to be that will make for good appear material. That subsequent review doesn't show some material flaw in the name change petition that could turn this into a different sort of argument. I know of instances where people listed gender change but provided no evidence support the claim. Other instances were trans have written the petition in order to have the gender marker changed which has worked for some but also has resulted in some petitions thrown out. Or perhaps the person has a criminal record or something else that was the primary reason it was rejected and other comments were incidental.

I seen too many instances of what looks like a clear case turns into a bad example when details come out. If there isn't, it should be a very clear case upon appeal.

Given that the judge's reasons were pure BS, it should be a clear case of abuse of discretion.

The judge's grasp of biology is pathetic. He talks about "DNA" because he thinks presence or absence of a Y chromosome determines sex. I wonder if he thinks women who are androgen-insensitive genetic males are made frauds by God? Unprofessional is the least of what could be said.

In civil cases a judge has a lot of leeway to rule as they want. However, their ruling must be able to stand up to appeal which will take in to consideration the way past cases by other judges have gone. Renee is lucky to have the ACLU help her defray the expenses. This should be easily overturned in appeal mainly because the judge invoked the law of God and ignored the law of man which is still the law of this country.

I do feel very sorry for Renee for having to go through all of this mess. But what she is doing will help us all in the long run.

well its nice when the ACLU (or anyone) helps out with a worthy cause. This will be a no-brainer now i think. but ya never know... we'll see what happens.
