As I Watched My Heartland Torched

Hello all,

I am taking a chance on this since you will be the third time I have revealed a picture of the deepest part of myself.

I would also like to say that this is a poem about conflict that I have experienced in my life and the only way I could describe it was with the use of the word war.

I have never been in a national war, let alone on a real battlefield.

Having said that, I am by no means mocking or lessening the experience of the service people here on the forum that have done what no one else could do, and that is sacrifice themselves life and limb. You are very special people and the rest of us are very greatful for the service you have or still provide for the safety and continued free living in this world now.

So when you critique, please be kind. It is just how I viewed my experience in life and the intensity with which I felt it as.

As I Watched My Heartland Torched.

Beneath the pall of blackened skies,

Thickly steeped in anguished cries,

Enlightened fruits, shredded and scorched,

As I watched my Heartland torched.

Sacred treasures ripped from their place,

No respect for their grace.

Holy ground turned to mud,

nothing remains, even a bud.

I watched the fruit of that rage

take it's toll on the sage

Enlightened fruits shredded and scorched

as I watched my Heartland torched.

There I stood frozen in time,

silently reaching for sublime.

Deep in slumber,weary from war

there's that flash I so abhor!

Ball of fire pierced the sky!

Surely, I thought, more will die.

The enlightened palace hit in a flash,

In a heart beat turned to ash!

My precious Heartland torn asunder,

That oppressive force persists to plunder..

In the fight for a thousand years!

I shed the last of a trillion tears!

My enlightened heart has fallen once more....

From within, a resounding roar!

For at this hour tis truly war!

With thunder and fire! The heartland rose!

Striking back with lighten blows!

With blades of fire

I shall not tire,

Untill that glorious day,

When all remaining, is the Heartlands way.

Once again the heartland reigns,

Where feminine nature adorns the shrines.

Respected and loved for her grace,

She fought hard for to claim "her" place.

That poem is very moving! I read it last night and decided to think about it a bit before I typed a response - OK, I'll tell the truth! I couldn't stop the tears enough to focus on my keyboard or the screen, it touches me so!

You have a gift with the crafting of beautiful imagery, so clear and moving - I glanced at a couple of stanzas this morning and decided that if I was ever going to be able to type this thank you for sharing so much of yourself in this beautiful work that I had better not read any more - the tears are welling up again and I can barely focus.

Some day, when I actually finish something, I may post some of my prose.

Hello, Rainbird, Donna Jean, Sally, Kelly Ann, and Mia,

I am sorry I didn't get a response out quicker, but I put this in here on the 23rd, so needless to say, the coming days would be filled with holiday expectations and very busy.

I am touched that this poem would be seen by others from a feeling point. I was apprehensive at first that it wouldn't mean anything to anyone but just another poem. But your respnses have made me feel more confident in being able to express myself and actually be able to touch someone else.

This says alot about one's self worth. I hope you all know how much help that is to me by showing me that I do have some positive effect in others lives. This is a wonderful feeling and I thank you all for showing me this.
