Do people have the sense to ask you about gender and pronouns?

I'm pretty sure my department head gave the rest of the faculty a heads-up after I talked to him over the summer, because people are being shockingly neutral with me.

Today, I had a professor ask what my preference was. She's also been very careful to distinguish between sex and gender variables all semester (whereas other stats professors take them to be the same thing). Maybe it's because she's an epidemiologist, but I think she has a clue on top of that.

It's so refreshing to have someone outside of the transworld actually ASK.

Anyone else experiencing that kind of positive interaction?

Cool experience.

I had a similar one actually today. I am only "out" to a few people at work. Kind of seems silly to transition at work when I only have a year to go before I retire. But a few people I am out to. However, nobody has ever asked me about pronouns before today. She also commented how confident I seemed lately-- she didn't think about it before but I seem different in a good way. It was very affirming.

Noone has ever asked, and I'm glad. I wouldn't find it positive at all. That said, I don't think there was ever any reason for anyone to ask. When I came out as trans at work, I told them what my name would be, and that I would go by male pronouns from now on. (I came out to a smaller group at first, they started using male pronouns and my soon-to-be name (well, a bit of mix and match at first ) when only the people who knew were around, just to start getting used to it.) Later on, when meeting and interacting with new people, they all took the cue from my male name and went with male pronouns.

I find it positive because I do not pass. My name is androgynous not male. I have never asked anybody to use male pronouns except at the support group. So it is a new and sweet thing to me.

I'm at the point where i don't ever correct pronouns regardless of which ones are used. 'course my 'coming out' at work is going to be me bringing in the courtpaper wednesday with my name change... they all call me Danny already but not even my boss knows that i'm changing it to such a distinctly MALE name. we'll see how my cowardice goes.
