On Females Using Male Products

I think it's worthwhile for anyone who might even be contemplating HRT to start using a sulfate-free shampoo.

The majority of male balding is driven by genetics, but there have been several studies which show strong correlation between sulfates in shampoo and earlier & faster balding. Both male and female. Check the ingredients on the bottle and avoid the following:

Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS)

Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES)

Ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS)

Ammonium laureth sulfate

Ammonium xylene sulfonate.

Sulfates are what create the lather when you shampoo. When using sulfate-free shampoo, you should apply a smaller quantity, since the product is richer, and more concentrated without the sulfate filler. if you're already on T, and have noticed oilier hair, shampoo/rinse twice to break up more of the oils and lift them from the scalp.

Sulfate-free shampoos are usually found with natural/organic care products. They arent terribly expensive, they are readily available in most supermarkets. Maybe $1 or $2 more than than basic Clairol/Revlon type brands in equivalent bottle sizes. But you use less per shampoo, so they typically last longer.

You just have to take the time to read the labels. Just because it says "natural" doesn't mean it's sulfate free.

I've been using male products for a while now and seem to have had no problems whatsoever, the only concern I can see is if you are allergic to any of the ingredients and then switching to another brand will help with that. Personally, the only difference I can find between girl and guy products is that guy products smell better and sometimes work better :P

Hope this helps

I use vegetable soap on my skin and nothing else, i use nothing on my hair but water, except once a week i use the vege soap. If you arent on T your skin will not be as oily as a mans, with T it usually becomes more oily, so it makes sense not to use those products which do not suit your skin or hair.

I do however, use almond oil on my scalp which is good for ME, i guess its about finding out whats right for your own body/hair............good luck with that

I've ben using male deodrants and cologne since high school. I've got a bunch of them, some gifted by friends, and I recently went and bought myself a couple of expensive perfumes. I also shave using shaving gel (even though I'm pre-T) and use aftershave lotion on it afterward. None of it has had a negative impact on me. Shaving, of course, makes the skin rough, but when I used to use my dad's aftershave without shaving, it never did any harm. As far as I can figure out, the only differences between male and female deos and perfumes relates to the fragrance and their strength. Male perfumes (and deos) tend to be toward the stronger side, as men sweat more. And the fragrance is, naturally, more masculine.

With regard to shampoo and soap, I personally don't see the compulsion to buy products marketed at men. As far as I'm aware, shampoos and soaps that are explicitly labeled as being "for men" are simply for the purpose of controlling stronger male odours. Male shampoo also tends to have stronger cleansing properties than female or unisex shampoo. I use products that suit my skin and hair, rather than insisting on buying men's products.

I'm pre-T, and I've been using guy's deodorant and wearing my dad's aftershave (without shaving my face) for awhile now. I generally think the stuff smells better, and I'm sure on T, it'll have more an effect due to certain chemical/hormone processes, such as with higher T levels, more pheromones released and how cologne and other body products react to the change. I need to do some research.

Besides that, I don't think there's any problems that come with using products marketed towards men, since the active ingredients such as in deodorant is composed of the same ingredients and all include antimicrobials such as with women's deodorant. They just contain different scents. Personally, I wouldn't mind being a guy who smelled like strawberries or teen spirit, but old spice fits me better.

I think most guys smell of sweat and other things equally unpleasant. Maybe i'm wrong but the guys i worked with never had any scent that they hadn't produced all by themselves. Sorry but their wives got to know them after a shower i hope!

Hugs,

Charlie

I just want to say, my skin has gotten thicker since taking testosterone, so there is something to that. I use all male products, but one type of deodorant makes my pits peel. Trial and error. I say use what feels good. I would be careful on the face, I have a lot more oily skin since my transition and really need products to help with that and only guys stuff seems to work.

It is interesting with the thicker skin, my wife feels so soft now!

Later and good luck,

Kael

Almost all products that both men and women use are exactly the same except for occasionally smell, though even with deodorant you can barely tell.
