Estrogen Without Anti-androgens Mtf

E & T are like polar opposits, but does one cancel out the other? If I take estrogen right now, will it stop my beard from developing (like an anti-androgen) AND redistribute my fat, or will it make me look like a hairy boy with a nice butt?

just a little confused, thanks

Leaf: Seek professional advice and help. We are not allowed nor qualified to answer medical questions. If you need financial help, go to your county health officer and ask about medicaid. Best advice you can get is from the licensed medical community. That DOES NOT INCLUDE health store employees or internet self help snake oil salesman.

So I trust you will listen to me. . This is not any kind of warning about your status with the community, just friendly old lady advice....Grandma Huggs,,,,,Mia.

Estrogen normally does not fully cancel testosterone, which is the purpose of anti-androgens. Still talk to your doctor. He knows your bloodwork and how your body will react to various hormones.

The amount of anti-androgen needed to ofset your natural level of T can only be determined by blood tests - everyone is different, that is wht self medication is so dangerous.

Being younger you are more likely to need an anti-androgen, where as at my age - maybe not!

Don't guess, a lot of medications are good in small doses but larger can be fatal - it is the same with hormones - ask a Doctor, have the blood tests and use the doses and hormones prescribed.

You want to become a beautiful young woman, not an attractive corpse!

Get the idea that blood chemistry is not something to play around with?

I know that I am still a long way from HRT, this was just something I was confused about.

I only asked because I know someone who is on estrogen and nothing else whos beard has seemed to vanish.

OK, Leaf,

We sometimes get a bit over protective of our younger members.

Only because we care!

Your friend probably had fairly low levels of T to start with and therefore no blockers were needed, that's why we go to the Docs!

As far as facial hair going away - well that's pure genetics, for most people there is very little difference in facial hair with the hormones - body hair is effected dramatically. :D

Your Mileage May Vary

For some, like me, estrogen alone kicked T's butt. However, I later did Spiro anyway as it has it's own benefits. Most people require an anti-androgen (AA) to bring the T down. And more importantly using an AA allows you to be on a lower estrogen dose and get the same results. The higher your E levels are the higher the incidence of DVT and Pulmonary embolism.

To sum up: You're better off using BOTH estrogen and an AA.

Leah is right. You have to see a doctor. I would rather take an AA if I had to make a choice. Hopefully that will never happen. I feel that T is really poison to your mind and body and less is always better I feel that lower T puts me in a more stable state of mind... not so depressed. It also cuts down on the erections that are gross. To me the only good T is what rubs off from well .... not me.

It really a policy here at Laura's not to get into detail about hormones and dosages, but discussing what can be expected is reasonable. But everyone needs to know this - everyone is different. :P

You MUST have a prescribing doctor and he/she will monitor your bloodwork to make certain you are safe on the HRT prescribed. To speculate on the results of HRT is not productive - I know this from experience. I had several post op people tell me about their regime when they started and each one was different . I am on HRT and tell them what is going on now, and they say it was completely different for them when they started.

MTF - usually a T-blocker series and estrogen type replacement. Most use pills in a daily regime.

FTM - Testosterone - pretty much is it - usually by injection in the doctor's office - not a daily thing

DO NOT self administrate or use non-legal hormones - they can severly damage your heart or liver. It can also kill you.

Also, not said as often - do not attempt to augment a legal prescription hoping for faster results.

Please listen to Aunt Lizzie!

She isn't trying to scare anyone, just to make you aware of the dangers. If you don't think that htey are real or you don't think that it could happen to you consider Laura's condition she tried self medication and the results were catastrophic, if she were not an extrodinarily strong willed woman she would not be with us and this playground would never have existed. You now understand why she has set such strict rules about the discussion and use of hormones or herbal substitutes without a doctor's care. She is trying to protect us from preditors and ourselves.

Listen to everyone who tells you that hormones are not candy- they are a very powerful force for change - changing your body chemistry is not safe wihthout someone controlling it - that is a doctor and it requires blood tests - specific tests and careful annalysis.

Another Old Lady that wants to see all of you make it to old age,

Along with the estradiol valerate, for a faster and more complete feminizing,

One needs to add TWO anti androgens. The first is your T blocker,Spirolactone ect.

The second is your DHT blocker,Finasteride ect. which allows more facial feminizing,

and hair regrowth, if you need it.

DHT is what causes males to lose their hair. Some MTF's are prescribed a DHT blocker to help them from losing any more hair and it helps re-grow some hair. Your doctor will have you do a blood test to see what your DHT levels are. If they feel like they are too high than you can get prescribed a blocker. I hope this helped.

Yes it helps thanks. If I coulld ask again when my endo started me on the Spoirolacton which was a little over a month ago he said my hair would grow longer on it. I have absolutley no hair loss, and of course never want it to start. Will the Spironolactone ensure that I never develope hair loss/ male pattern baldness? Also someone on hear said DHT helps with facial-feminization, I would certianly want that if thats the case.

As far as I know spiro does not effect your hair loss. I know sprio helps slow down T but I don't know about the hair. Maybe someone else can answer that question.

I went back and read the posts and Angie said the blocker will help with facial feminization not DHT. I don't know if that is true or not.

Just a warning - this topic is old and many who participated originally are no longer at Laura's.

That said - as a person on HRT 21 momths tomorrow - I do want to say YMMV, and some get good results and some do not. That is a good reason to NOT self-medicate because if you are, and don't like the results or they seem too slow? Your tendancy will be to up the intake. This can kill you.

Lizzy

Oh - forgot. For we MTF the HRT is said to not influence the fascial hair (beard, mustache and sideburns). It did with me. But I never really had a beard. And estrogen plus natural T? Like trying to drive you car in two directions at the ssme time...

Interesting stuff. I'm a very tall rather male (over 6'), with no body hair whatever, a full head of thick hair, muscular body, but long thin limbs, and slender delicate looking hands and feet. What am I? Can hormones help?

Most modern regimes for MTF also include GnRH (gonodotrophci releasing hormone) and a bit of progesterone. I am not preaching self medication, just sharing some information. Ask your doctor for a comprehensive regime. Personally, I am looking forward to an orchi so I can get off the spiro. Again, I am not preching self orchi either, please talk to your endo

.

Well, Hon....I have to imagine that as long as you're on an anti androgen along with the Estrogen, it can do the job....

Finasteride is a weak anti-androgen. As a result your chief anti-androgen is estrogen. At diagnostic doses estrogen overwhelms the testosterone by hogging all the cellular receptor sites.

Outside the US many countries use Androcur as the anti-androgen. For some reason the FDA has never approved it for use here.

Good afternoon M.A.   Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums, I think you'll find that there are a lot of us who had their first therapist reconsidering our story and recommended us to gender or LGBTQIA specific therapist. I made my first therapist cry after asking me what was my worst experience or memory. She was not prepared for the can of worms I brought to the couch. My second therapist is a gem, she's my age and knows how to work with my thoughts.    My two kids were also involved in the arts programs in school one in theater, the other combined art and modern music.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

That's very common in internet forums and it is hard not to take it personally sometimes.   You might post "bump" with a smiley face to bring it to the top of the stack, or you might use the @ feature if there are certain people you would really like to have comment on it, and say something like Dear Abby, I would really like your input on this.  Please take a minute and respond.  Thanks!!!

Something else I noticed @Ladypcnj Since I use the Unread tab, I don't see threads I've read again until someone replies to it, or the author adds something.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good morning @Ladypcnj   Some posts get lost in the busy times here. It also maters how people navigate the site. Some only look at their notifications, or tap the All Activity tab which shows them thread they've commented on. (how I see it)... I on the other hand use the Unread tag under Activity. I don't think people ignore post as much as they get caught up reading threads they've already been active in.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
