Being an Androgyne can be confusing to many I find. Binaries seem to insist (perhaps due to their wiring) that you must be one or the other.

But not both!

However, when I think of androgynes, I think of anther word: snow.

If you look out your door and see a rolling white landscape, you might say:

“O, look at the snow.”

Does it occur to many that what you’re seeing is an assemblage of bazillions of flakes that qualify for membership in a certain group and yet no two are alike?

(The same of course may be said about humankind, but let’s stick to genderqueers for the moment. And bear in mind that genderqueer is quite a term and even manages to neutralize a former pejorative. Think about it, we call ourselves this.)

In fact, when I first joined Laura’s I had just discovered the word ‘transgendered’ and so came here looking for a definition not of the word but of myself. It seemed that I had left the binary world of male/female in exchange for the very ‘unbinary’ world of MTFs/FTM’s.

Ummmm. Really?

Yes, I love make-up and womens’ clothes. I am tres feminine in my attitude and how I carry and present myself. With what appeared to be only two choices to make, I assumed that I was an MTF.

It was in reading someone’s account of being full time that I stopped short. First, I sing and love my voice the way it is. And most important of all, there is a masculine faction in me that thrives and loves life. in fact, if you’ve visited my gallery, you’ll notice that I sport a slight mustache and goatee.

& SRS would have robbed me of my sex life.

(I hope I can say that as I’ve been getting in nothing but trouble lately!)

Just about that time Laura’s debuted the Andro Forum. Many of us who arrived seemed relieved and yet still confused. I recall someone asking if Andros wore make-up. Being a smart aleck, I replied: ‘Check the handbook.’

And I’m sorry now that I said that. Seriously.

I’m old now and am having a difficult time for several reasons getting on HRT. However, I have drifted back in time, with a therapist as my guide, wondering what the ideal me would have been if possible. What I would have given anything to be is described by a term that many, many consider to be a pejorative: crossdresser.

Recently, however, I found what I guess is a new term that sums it up tastefully: androfeminine.

Not bad, eh?

And so this term I believe to be brand new. Least ways, it hasn’t been around long enough to be misused to the point that it’s considered an insult.

Androfeminine.

This is what I would have been and would have wanted to partner up with.

And speaking of which (and thanks to the Internet) I have fallen in love. . .again. This time it is with an androfem from Russia named Charlie Somik. She is stark raving gorgeous (as seen all over the ‘Net) and seems to have a demure yet mischievous attitude.

It’s been mentioned somewhere that she’s a gifted artist though I’ve yet to find any of her work.

This is the girl that I could spend hours with at some al fresco coffee shop just watching the creamy steam rising out of her latte in the frozen Russian air and framing her smile. I want to take long walks with her in the snow and paint her portrait over and over.

And then there’d been the illustrated poem. Though the term is overused, I would title the poem:

‘My Lovely Ladyboy’.

You know, I thought about that. But the thing is, I've used that word before and actually had it posted.

Now the first time that I used the other word in an email to another member, I was advised that it was offensive. Extremely offensive. I must confess that I had no idea at the time. In fact I knew little about the sort of TG/TS person that the word would be applied to. As I mentioned in the above post, I found the new word which doesn't seem at all offensive and simply wished to clarify the point I was trying to make.

Considering how individual such transgender people are, it's a shame that the situation surrounding an acceptable term had not been happily dealt with before.

I'm rather weary of apologizing but wish to stress that my intention was never to offend anyone.

Now I have a few loose ends to tie-up: that is I want to make arrangements to be able to stay in touch with the handful of members that I've grown fond of over the past few years. It is my hope that we can stay in touch via email or Skype.

That done, I shall be leaving Laura's. I've enjoyed and benefitted from it and hope that perhaps from time to time that something that I said might have helped someone else. After all, in support groups their is a necessary reciprocity to keep the ball rolling.

But it is clearly time for me to move on.

I'm heartened to read about your story. I joined this site back in '08 and have been in remiss for a few years in both posting and reading.

I share a lot of sentiments with you. I also love singing (baritone/bass) and early into exploring, I realized I did not want to change my voice, because I have spent so much time learning to love my voice (after a berating choir director made me ashamed of it).

I hope that you have the best of luck in being who you are and surrounding yourself with those who appreciate you as you are.

I just snuck in the out door to answer a birthday email from a Mod and thought I'd browse a moment.

An article about Goddard? Yeah, the original Vermont branch is a shell of itself as the real activity seems to occur here in the Pacific Northwest (Washington.)

They are actually trying to turn the one remaining Vermont campus into retirement condos for former students, graduates, etc. Can't imagine a gaggle of geriatric hippies crossing campus with walkers, canes, and such to attend a Geritol kegger at the old Haybarn.

Ugh!
