Political shift in the right is driving me insane.

I don't usually like talking about politics, because frankly anymore both parties make me extremely annoyed so I have been mostly avoiding politics over the years.. However my family still listens to talk radio, and I still hear it when I wake up since I keep my radio on at night while I sleep. (I can't stand complete silence, I have damaged eardrums from childhood) I have over the last several months noticed a disturbing shift in several of these political talking heads.

Some of these hosts had been portraying a very LGBT friendly facade for the last few years (Yes I realize that they never meant it, but the two-faced attitude really annoys me). One of the hosts Ive heard talk about how he understands and is supportive of gay people for example, saying he has family or friends who are in that situation.. Well great I never gave it much thought until recently... where the very same host has been ranting about gay marriage. I have actually noticed a shift in this area across the board as though LGBT issues have become the primary issue the right wants to fight against.

I find it annoying enough that they seem to think that the most crucial issue facing America today is gay marriage, but now I am noticing these same hosts attacking trans issues more and more frequently. Over the years of listening on and off, even when not really paying attention the mention of trans issues would always get my attention like a giant signal flare and it rarely if ever got mentioned though that time. Lately though as I said it's starting to come up more and more and honestly it's not good.

The host I mentioned previously has started to point to transgender issues as a means for us to eradicate the entire concept of gender so the left can better control the population.. There was a time where I supported the mainstream right as I am a fiscal and constitutional conservative, but over the last number of years and now especially this year I am seeing a shift in the party and it's talking heads to where the primary issues or really the only issues they seem to care about are social issues such as gay marriage and trans issues.

I have said it before, but I have a hard time even considering supporting a party that outright hates me at this point, and I am extremely frustrated as it feels like the Right has been completely taken over by extreme elements. It's all conspiracy theories and a bizarre obsession over what people do in their bedroom or in regards to their own sex/gender. I find the whole thing completely disgusting the right seems to have taken this attitude that they lost the last election because their platform wasn't anti gay enough, so it's as though they feel they need to make that their focus to win in the future..

I still consider my self a conservative with the exception of social issues, and there was a time when the GOP's attitude on social issues was muted enough that I was able to ignore it and be very all in for their platform. There was a time where I could listen to various political talk radio when driving anywhere with member of my family and not feel completely irritated..but now It really feels like they have abandoned the issues I do care about, to focus on issues that puts them directly at odds with my own well being. So freaking frustrating

I am just extremely frustrated at how incredibly stupid politics have become, there isn't a particular point to this thread or this post.. It's just something that I needed to vent somewhere because every time I hear one of these political talk radio hosts talk about trans issues with clearly no education in the matter I want to rip the radio out of the car and chuck it out the window..GRRR!

Anyways I'm sorry for the rant, I feel better now!

Hugs,

Sarah

I don't want to enter into political discourse as it always seems to go to extremes at this point in times. Perhaps it always has but the present climate is insane. The number of lies and accusations is so off when there are things to be done. One might not like a strong central government but it is no reason to destroy it by waging unnecessary and expensive wars and then stonewalling any attempt to rebuild an economy. The issues of marriage for us should be a federal matter just like civil rights could not be left up to the states. I'd be unable to travel across the country safely and if my wife became ill i wouldn't be able to help. The present supreme court case might help force it to the feds as it is there tax on a 40 plus year marriage that is under debate. I asked the head of the ACLU wether uder present law i would have to pay inheritance tax on our estate if my wife were to die after i had changed gender. I guess after listening to the response that i'll stay a legal male. It all just boggles this poor ditzy mind.

Hugs,

Charlie

I agree Sarah, politics can just burn you out, there are much more happy things in life to think about. I used to consider myself civically minded, and actually cared about politics to some degree, but now I find myself very appathetic, I still vote but that's about it. I tune out these political talking heads.

I think I'll turn on some music now, and forget about the serious adult world full of hate, cheating, greed, you name it, it's all there, in the political arena.

Hugs

I totally agree, Sarah. I also consider myself a social liberal and a fiscal conservative.

Aaaand that's as far as I want to go into politics this morning ;)

I trust none of them to tell me the truth. Just look at the senate when these cases went to the Supreme Court.

None of these senators are young adults. They have had many years to think about issues. And as political figures they have had to publicly state their views on numerous hot button issues again and again.

And yet, within days of each other numerous senators came to the 'personal conclusion after deep reflection' or some such crap that supporting gay marriage is the right thing to do. It has NOTHING to do with any winds of change happening in the country. These people honestly, within days of each other just happened to change on this one issue.

I don't think either party is on our side. They are on the side of the most votes. I can not stand the "talk radio" today. To much hatred and negativity.

An old joke from my law school days was, "When you have the law on your side, hammer it in to the judge! When you have the facts on your side, hammer them into the jury! When you have neither the facts or the law on your side, hammer your shoe on the table!"

I am hearing loud table hammering from these folks. We are a, so far, convenient diversion from their having to face personal responsibility for a number of items that their actions have been the direct cause of. To them we constitute a circus they can put on to draw attention from their ineptitude and even lesser traits of their own.

When I mandatorily re-registered to vote after my name change, it was not in the same party I had been a member of for 43 years. It was a symbolic thing of full change for me.

When listening to all the talking heads on radio and television, please remember that their bottom line is the number of listeners. The more outrageous they get on the air, and the more red meat they throw their devoted fans, the better their ratings figures. Personally, I don't think that many of them actually believe the drivel they put out. They aren't on the air to educate, they are on the air to entertain and make a profit for the companies that employ them. That doesn't excuse what they say, but it does help explain it.

Thanks Sarah,

I tried and tried to not comment on this post.. I left 3 times then it drew me in like a Kitten to a laser pointer.

I grew up in from a Very, Very conservative political Family. Put it this way.. My Dad and Joe Arpaio were good friends, He even came to my Dads Funeral as they were both Sheriff's.

But like you I consider myself a Fiscal Conservative and Social Moderate. I am actually still a Registered Republican but now they call me a RINO. But I agree with you whole heartedly..

Both side have just gone too Extreme. I do kinda like being a Republican right now.. Just for the shock factor. Every once in awhile some Rep from the party starts going door to door to get support on one thing or another. I just love the look on their face when they come in the shop and ask for Mr. D and I have to tell them that Mr.D is no longer with us but I am Mrs. D. What can I do for you.

And since I am still an Avid Shooter always getting invites to the 2nd Amendment Tea Party Rallies. I always want to put on a pair of Daist Dukes and Halter top and show up with my AR to see the reaction.. But I figure that may not be the best Idea.. Going to a Park with a Group of Bigoted Armed Conspiracy Theorists might be bad for my complexion.

I am avoiding my soap box here as I also know the quickest way to start a Flame war and loose friends.. Just start talking Political beliefs or Religion then when you mix the too.. It becomes a Mushroom cloud.. :Crylol: :Crylol: :Crylol: :Crylol: :score: :score: :friends::doh1:

Thank's everyone for listening to my rant, and sharing your own thoughts. :)

Carolyne that is exactly part of what gets on my nerves that the political talking heads are all about basically being an entertainment product it just seems a little insane to be taking issues that actually affect peoples lives and attack them for the purposes of entertainment.

Billie! You pretty much echo my feelings exactly i haven't officially changed my registration to independent, and I love the reaction I get from some of my friends over it. Really though I try to avoid politics at this point its so frustrating to hear issues that are important to me get made into a complete joke by people on the radio every time I get in the car with a family member. I'm also tired of the 800 emails my great grandfather get that get him paniced of the possibility of an EMP attack on the country.

I'm sure nothing will change anytime soon, but here's hoping we'll eventually get away from the insane political extremes we're seeing today.

Big Hugs,

Sarah

No Thank you Sarah for a civil discourse on a touchy subject. I want whats best for the country. I want us to spendo only what we can afford. I would like to see us not try to dominate the world and attempt to impose our will on other countries. I would like us to stay strong because of countries like North Korea only understand a fist up one side of their head and down the other.

I want more tolerance displayed towards other people. Being different is good for society and hatred is sad and just plain wrong. What I find sad is when the two political parties have gone so far out there and can't work together anymore. We need to have discourse, disagreement, but keep it civil and try and find middle ground to get the job done. Kathryn

Hello @The Lake, Welcome to our forum. I’m intrigued by your introduction and would enjoy reading more about your backstory. We all have very unique journeys and yours is not one I have come across often. As you become more comfortable with our community, maybe you could share more aout how your gender identity evolved, what difficulties you confronted and endured and what some of your successes were along the way. Also, do you see yourself involved in a future transition of roles, presentation, social, physical, or something else entirely? There is never any pressure to share a thing here. So feel free to share as little or as much as you like. We are a very open-minded nonjudgmental group who enjoy learning new things from our members.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Welcome @gizgizgizzie, It’s nice to have you in the fold. We are a very diverse group so you’ll fit in just fine. Right now, society at large is getting bombarded with misinformation, bait and switch tactics, propaganda and lies so it’s no wonder no one can get it right. I don’t come out and explain things about my gender identity as much these days but when I do it’s amazing how little these people know about our transgender community in 2024.   Thanks for sharing a little about yourself. I hope to learn more about you as you become more acclimated and active within our forum.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Speaking of hair days…for me, hair has always been the part of my presentation that had the most impact on my overall view of myself. It was much worse for me earlier in my transition. I enjoy experimenting with new hair styles so once in a while, I’ll end up completely redoing my hair because it somehow reminded me of my old self. Self image is a strange yet powerful thing and it take a lot of time and effort to change it.

I am working on a solo music project and I decided a few years ago I wanted to do female lead vocals. I’ve played instrumental music most of my life and sung as a male, mostly backup and harmony though, but very little lead. I never liked my male voice. People always clocked me as female on the phone so I’ve always had a more feminine voice. A little over two years ago I started training my female voice to sing and it has been a lot of fun, though I’m still not where I want to be. Consistency is my biggest challenge.    I try to make practice fun or I don’t stick with it. So I do a lot of singing along with my favorite cover songs…I use a vocal fader, and practice with a microphone, and often just record the blend with my phone to evaluate where I’m at and see what I need to work on. If possible I find karaoke mixes on YouTube where the lead vocal is removed and sing along to that.   I’m not sure I can offer much advice, I just do a lot of listening back and adjusting my technique and practicing until I like how I sound. Just a lot of practice. It will probably take longer than you hope to get where you want to be :) High notes will be challenging but every singer has to build up the muscles and technique and breath support and stretch the vocal chords and then their range will expand. My higher notes are in tune, but often sound strained, probably because they are. Some of that is tensing up in anticipation which I need to train myself out of doing.    I think “trans voice lessons” on YouTube is one of the best channels for tips and theory. Once you’ve found your singing voice and have that relatively consistent, pretty much it’s just working on technique, styling, articulation, range, like any singer would.

I sometimes look too critically when I look in mirrors. If I’m presenting as male, I think I look too feminine. If I am presenting female then I think I look too masculine. It’s very irritating! Sometimes I think I get it down right. I guess everybody has their good and bad hair days and such, though.

https://www.hrc.org/news/reyna-hernandez-latina-trans-woman-salon-owner-and-vibrant-spirit-killed-in-washington-state   This case is unusual, in that the victim was murdered in the U.S. and her body driven all the way to Mexico, presumably to hide evidence and confuse the authorities.    May Reyna rest in peace, and her vicious killer convicted and sentenced to a very long term behind bars.   Carolyn Marie

I cooked a breaded bone-in pork chop (seared in iron skillet then into the oven) an artichoke (w/mayo) and a frozen mac n' cheese that claimed it was "The Best Mac n' Cheese" ... and it was actually pretty good.
