The Girl Who Lived in Her Memory

Taken from all we’ve ever known, we once again face this lonely city of lost souls

…of shattered glass window sills, rusted mirrors, torn curtains and mossy sidewalks

…of painful lies yet to spread like plagues, harvested in the heart, spoken by the tongue

…of those who cannot speak and cannot follow, forgotten and beaten into dirt below

…of cracked pavement where green moss grows slowly as we walk upon it in the mist

…of forbidden truths they kept from us all this time, we are soon to rise from the ash

A little girl in torn and ragged blood stained clothes hugs her teddy bear, it’s all she has left

Everyone disappeared; she feels them but can’t see them. Their presences fade but memories remain.

The memories alive like a burning flame the truth is soon to break free from the dark abyss.

Then out of the foggy gray skies, rain falls. Thunder hits, the wind blows, buildings collapse and the memories fade. All that’s left is caught in the rubble, and the little girl realizes it’s time for her to let go of the past, the memories that haunt her, and live her life as she was meant to, with a dazed, mindless expression, she fades away into the misty fog never to be seen again.

I like this. The feel is one of desolate loss. Her world in ruin, she is relegated to the wasteland of the heart.

And yeah, it is, but when she fades into the fog after the buildings collapsed she was walking into a new life, that is why she was never to be seen again.
