Transgender ID Cards: Are the "M" and "F" outdated?

Why do people even need an M or an F in the first place?

What's so important about somebody's gender to someone else?

Instead they should just put H for human being, and allow all human beings to marry any human being they want regardless of sex or gender identity.

the reason for M or F is just for i.d. purposes, not meant to intimidate anyone

Exactly. It's just like height, birth date and hair color, it's an identifying trait used to ensure that you are really the person to whom that ID belongs. I see no reason to get rid of it, but I think it should be as easy to change as the other characteristics (I.e. if you grow a few inches or permanently change your hair color).

Just my opinion.

But what about the people who don't fit in the gender binary? Surely the government has enough identifying information without it, like the ID picture for example.
