Transwoman Attacked & Beaten In Hollywood

I've passed by their so many times. It's scary to think one of ours was attacked there. :(

And apparently unprovoked. I'm wondering what she was doing walking down the street alone at 2:30am. Most women do not walk alone after dark. I'm just glad she is still alive.

According to the video and news report even at 2:30 AM Hollywood Blvd is quiet busy and hopefully people will decide to speak up and report what they saw; nothing like a $25,000 incentive.

I can see one contributing factor to this that really makes me angry. I too have been in the Hollywood area where this happened during the wee small hours, after night clubs in the area closed at 2AM. I have been watchful and careful, and did see potential trouble, but I was less a target than this woman was. I don't like saying why, but cleanly put, race / ethnicity was an element here that cannot be ignored. The irony is that the location where this happened is easy walking distance to the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center. Not real comments here, just frustration and color to the picture. I love the Hollywood Boulevard scene, but know how dangerous it can be. The reward being issued here would be a great help toward someone's SRS fund.

If the police even give out that reward.

The L.A.P.D. who covers this area will pay the reward if they get the information they really need to make the arrests in this case. I am happy with that part of the deal. They have had problems in the past, but another member here can attest to the fact that they want to learn and to fairly serve our community as it is today.

With some of the crap the L.A.P.D has had to deal with over the years they have had to be one of the most adaptive police forces in the nation for almost a century. And the fact that they are offering a reward here shows they care way more then some other police forces in other cities would about violence against a trans individual.

Up until the past few weeks, Columbus Ohio has been very gay friendly. But, someone is now attacking them and ruffing them up pretty good. The folks in Columbus are not happy about this at all and came out in droves to support the gay community. Gay Pride this weekend

That's awesome to hear! Now if only Ohio would change their awful gender marker rules. :(

Hugs,

Just a point of clarification here; it is the L.A. City Council that determines if a reward will be offered. The Council also determines if anyone will receive it, based on a recommendation from the LAPD and the Police Commission.
