To all of my fellow Seniors- Hey it's great to have other seniors on this board. Being of this age and generation, we can have empathy for each other. We have all endured the "Dark Ages". For any youngsters reading this- it means the 50s , 60s and the beginning " Age of Enlightment", the 1970s.

The Fabulous 50s. Da Bomb, Christine Jorgenson. I remember reading the front page article in my rural hometown paper. Oh, what a scandelous article. men couldn't change themselves into a woman- or could they. It sure brought the preachers alive. But, even they had to code their sermons very carefully, as it might inflame folks that the kids in Church would pick up on stuff. A big no no back then. After I read the article and that fascinating word, " transsexual', I spent hours scanning through the Webster trying to find out exactly what it meant. And, during that time frame, a man who lived about 20 miles from our home was found murdered in a very grusome manner. Someone had cut off his penis and rammed it down his throat. The rumor was that he had raped or tried to rape a little boy and daddy had done this. But, no one was ever charged nor tried. So, here in rural America there was a lot of "big" stuff going on.

Then on to the "Wild Sixties". Free love,free sex and Vietnam. The anti-wat demos. Kenendy,King assinations,civil rights marchs and murders. A country so divided that we thought their might be another civil war. Hell No, we won't go;echoed throughout the land. Burn the draft offices,bomb the place,go underground-SLS & Patty Hearst.

On to the 70s, where we were still trying to grapple with our idenities. At least I could find transsexual in colege books now. But, maybe it was safer to just be termed "gay". Couldn't find any TS bars to go to. Hey, are the Seniors still hanging with me; thought so.

By the 1980s, I had found and made friends with a FtM. He had mortaged his home in order to have the full surgery. They used the skin from his left arm. It cost him $50,000, but he was so happy to now be a real man with a nice penis. I read every medical article that I could lay my hands on;going both FtM and MtF.

So, by the 1990s, I had gone from being termed straight,to gay to TS and finally my true medical evaluation as being intersexed [ all male-yippeee].

The youngsters on the boards have it a lot easier than we did. The info hiway is a great thing. We old folks are the pioneers of the movement. But, hey I descend from pioneer stock,so I don't mind.

I have been Blessed. I have had 2 beautiful wives in my life. We have kids,grandkids and great-grandkids-my quiver is full and I'm a happy Senior.
