Mens/Boys clothing shrink?

Hey guys

I recently bought my first set of clothing i actually enjoy, from the Mens/Boys section.

However i have a small problem, they are all shrinking? Every pair of shorts (and some shirts) i buy shrinks from absolutely perfect to "I don't even want to wear you anymore." Now i'm freaking out. How do i know what will and will not shrink? Are there certain stores whose clothing will not shrink?

It will depend on the fabric, but now that you know, the simple solution is to go and get the clothing in a bigger size. Also, do pay attention to the laundry instructions in the clothing. Hot water is the most likely damage demon, so use cool or cold, and it will get just as clean. Also -- ask sales folks if they know about the problem.

And don't tumble dry! Just hang them on the line.

According to the interweb, the following fabrics are more prone to shrinkage: Natural fibers, cotton, rayons, linen, ramie, wool
If you hang your clothes than you will see less shinkening than if you tumble dry and some brands are heartier than others simply because the clothes are made with finer materials. The Gap, American Eagle, Aeropostale...

Make sure what you are buying is labeled "pre-shrunk", and wash on the cold/cold cycle. If you have to use the clothes dryer, tumble dry on the low setting.

I wash cold / cold and dry on low and the shrinkage is minimal, but everything will shrink a little.
